Customer Reviews

42 in. Wood Handle Round Point Floral Shovel is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shovel for the smaller job I really like this shovel. I have recently used it to pry out several very very overgrown rosebushes from my back yard. The shovel itself was very robust, strong, and showed no sign of bending or wear as i would smash it into the dirt and roots of the rose bushes. The handle is comfortable and long enough to get leverage for prying. This is not the ideal shovel for shoveling large amounts of dirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly simple. I fell in love with this tool after using it 15 minutes. It is now my primary garden tool. It's like a larger trowel with a long handle, which is a back saver. The wood handle is design comfortably long with a rubber sleeve on the end that contours to allow your finger to securely wrap and hold the tool as it works. It is very light inspite of the alloy spade and wood handle. The spade part bent and twisted a little as I used my foot in some tougher soil, but I was quickly able to adjust to a better foot technique to avoid damage. The little space there is on top of the spade part for you foot is likely the cause. Keep in mind this is a garden tool and not your typical heavy duty yard shovel. If you do gardening or find the yard shovel to large for your needs, you want to buy this product. HIGHLY recommended for gardeners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ames Wood Handle Round Point Floral Shovel Since all of my long handled shovels decided they did not want to be at my home anymore and apparently ran away. None of my family, friends or hired help can tell me what has happened to them. I wound up digging holes with the hoe to plant the plants that I put into the ground over the Memorial Day holiday. This shovel is just perfect in every way. It is easy to use, lightweight and very efficient. I just love it and would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ames quality still exists even on their $14 garden shovel Ames quality still exists and the added bonus is they bring this market this garden shovel under fifteen dollars. The quality is evident when you put this shovel to use and it is backed up by a very generous warranty. Try as I might I simply cannot say anything bad about this garden shovel other than maybe the handle could have used a bit more sanding prior to what appears to be a brushed varnish finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Floral Shovel I thought this shovel was going to be big and heavy but to my surprise it's metal head is small (perfect for me). and the wooden handle is about the same length as the larger shovels. I didn't know they made shoves this small. It's not child size but it's just right for planting flowers and plants.I'm very happy with this shovel and I would recommend it to every woman who likes to garden. The only thing that could be improved is that the handle should have been sanded and sealed to avoid splinters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality, perfect size for raised garden beds and trenches! I don't know why I didn't think of getting this shovel sooner. I love gardening and have vegetables year round. I have always used the large shovels to turn the soil and in my raised garden beds it was really tough. Also, I am not a petite person, so at times a full shovel of wet dirt can overwhelm me. This shovel is perfect. First the head is the perfect size - large enough to turn the soil, but not too large that it is difficult to maneuver in the raised bed. The shovel blade is 8 1/4" by 6" I didn't know it at the time, but it is made in the USA and the quality shows! I will definitely look for other products by Ames. Also, when my husband saw it, he said "Wow, that will be perfect for digging trenches, especially in tight places". So another use for it that I didn't think about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perennial Gardner's Most Used Tool Used this tool to divide clumps of iris and other perennials in a large bed. Shovel is sharp enough to dig thru clay soil, small enough to maneuver around irrigation systems and light enough not to feel fatigued at the end of the day. This lovely floral shovel will make you re-think your commitment to your small hand trowel. Do yourself a favor and invest in this good quality, excellent value tool that provides the leverage your back will appreciate. *QUICK TIP* Make sure to select a shovel that the grain of the wood is oriented so that the oval rings are to the side of the handle, not on the top or bottom (relative to the blade). This makes for a longer lasting handle. See the picture for clarity. Also you might think about replacing the rivet that connects the shovel head to the handle with a carriage bolt and nylock nut.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shovel I used this Ames shovel to plant all of my tomatoes plants this year. Because it has a long narrow pointed head, it dug the perfect size hole and it easily dug into the hard packed dirt. It was also the perfect width for the trenches I needed to dig for planting garlic. It is an easy to use light weight shovel and is very well-made, sturdy and has a durable steel blade. It has a hole at the top of the handle, which is nice for hanging up in the shed.
