Customer Questions & Answers

Any guages needed to replace expansion tank?

My pressure relief valve on my water heater drips even after I replaced it, so I now think it is an expansion tank problem. I have an existing Therm-X-Trol ST-5, and looked up the instructions on line. They said I needed pressure gauges and would have to adjust the tank pressure. I have city water in Atco, NJ. Can I do this myself if I buy a tank?
Asked by: Mike
I already have a gauge by the pressure reducing valve at the main, however you could probably monitor with a tire gauge at the expansion tank air valve by trial and error.

How do I connect these tanks - are they screw on or do they have to be sodered in-line?

Asked by: Gil
They are screw in. A few wraps of Teflon tape, 2-3, on the threads not only helps to smooth the way, but prevents possible leaks as well. Keep in mind that these tanks install vertically.

What to do if you have one that back pressures into water supply system?

Asked by: brad
I am not sure I understand the question. When you install the thermal expansion tank you should balance the pressure on the gas side of the diaphragm to the pressure on the water side. Thus you are just absorbing the small mount of pressure created by the heating of the water in the appliance. I hope this helps. You are welcome to call if I can be of more help. Chris 978 651 3301

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install, resolved my problem ... I purchased this product because it was an exact replacement for the original expansion tank installed in my home. The original tank lasted approx. 8 years before it began to fail. I wasn't sure what my problem was at first. I only knew that I had increased water pressure at my residence. After ruling out several other possibilities I turned my attention to the expansion tank. Following the manufacturers instructions (and some youtube videos) I was able to easily replace my old tank with this new one. My pressure problems were resolved immediately. I couldn't be happier - largely because I didn't have to pay a plumber to make the repair.
