Does the bottom glass slide to reveal a screen too?

Asked by: fairway
Yes, it's an awesome feature. A full screen on the outside with the ability to open storm door at top, or bottom, or both.

Is the screen in this door a full door screen, or does it roll up inside?

The demo door in the store has a full screen, but in the product overview, it says it is a "one hand retractable screen". I wanted to buy in store, but they didn't have any in stock. But I am confused. I want the full screen.
Asked by: KL85
Not a full length screen. Rolls up inside

Once installed, can the screen be completely removed? I like to have no screen in the top for passing out Halloween candy.

Asked by: Ladybug618
The product description, pics, and one manufacturer response indicate this has a fixed screen. The specifications state a retractable screen as does the manufacturer response to this question. Can the fixed screen be completely removed once the door is installed?

Absolutely awful door and experience with the Anderson Customer Service people. The door slams shut, it is incredibly heavy. At first I thought I installed it incorrectly so I had a contractor come out and it was installed correctly. Then the balancers broke causing the upper window to slam shut like a guillotine unless locked. I called Anderson customer service and they were incredibly rude and downright terrible. I explained all the issues and that I thought the slamming of the door and the window was a danger to my 2 and 4 year old children and they didn't care. I asked for a replacement door, I said I would even take a less expensive model and they said "no". They said all they could do is send me some replacement parts for me to fix on my own. Finally I got frustrated and told them to send me the parts but I would likely go with a competitor and the lady told me that if I was going to purchase a competitive product she didn't want to spend the money to ship me the spare parts. I finally got the parts and attempted to fix and now the other set of balancers are shot, the door still slams and the handle latch has since broken. Horrible product and customer service and I will do whatever I can to avoid Anderson going forward.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice looking but Andersen instructions confusing The finish of the door is nice and looks good with all screw covers in place. The hidden screen panel is a nice touch also. Your door sill must extend far enough for the bottom seal of the screen door to make contact, otherwise there is a large gap at the base of the door. The screen door handles aligned with my dead bolt so there was no interference there. You should read through all the instructions for the door and the latch mechanism BEFORE you begin any work. Trial fit everything possible before drilling or cutting anything. Andersen did not drill holes for the door trim plates but gave the owner a drill bit to complete the work. Instructions for the latch mechanism tell you simply to install it in the cut-out provided and secure it with screws. You have to make sure the door handles align with the mechanism FIRST. I trial fit the entire mechanism, door handles and everything BEFORE drilling and securing the latch assembly. Otherwise it would not have aligned properly. I reinforced my door trim on the hinge side using long deck screws underneath the hinge rail. Andersen only supplies 1" screws for the rails and the weight of the door would have pulled my trim away eventually. Do whatever you can to beef up the hinge side trim because it must be stout.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this door!! I've had this door about 5 months and I'm very happy with it! I am a small female and I did the installation by myself. It took me about 7 hours to complete. It looks great and functions smoothly. I had NO interest in the doors with the rolling screen that you find on almost every door out there now, so this was just perfect for me. I love the full view. The full screen does not impair the view at all. I love that both windows move for venting and they move very smoothly too. It has a study frame, a nice tight closure, nice hardware and a decently study lock. I'm very please.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from door frame construction lacking Our special order storm door has daylight showing all along the corner miters at the top of the door, as well as at the corners of the glass. We reported it to the company as a defect but were told by a company technical advisor that it is not considered to be a problem; just typical manufacturing. Why bother with weatherstripping, etc. if the door itself leaks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks nice but probably won't last long The door slams closed, even after adjustment. You have to open the door a full 90 degrees to get the spring to slow down the door and not slam when it's closing. Having a house full of boys I don't expect it to last long and stand up to the constant abuse of slamming shut since no one opens the door fully when they go through it and that's the only way to engage the spring to slow it down when it closes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ehhhhh I really wanted to love this door but there are some flaws. First I was under the assumption that the screens were rolled away but, they are not. So when looking from the outside of the house, the door always looks dirty/gray since the screens are always visible. Also, when the glass doors are shut, they do not make a complete seal over the screen and instead there is a gap. This is an issue when I want to leave the glass door Open for a late but not let any air, whether it be too cold or too hot, into the house. Also, installation was tricky and lengthy. My husband has put in dozens of these doors and it usually takes him about two hours. This store took about five hours because of some issues with installation. Going back, I would not purchase the store and instead would purchase one with a rollaway screen. I would have brought this back to return except we no longer have any of the packaging.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job The 3000 series storm door is built to work for nearly any standard entry door and designed to accommodate the common irregularities of door frames found in older homes. Instructions are fairly easy to follow so installation can be done by homeowners who are comfortable using basic hand tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product for the price I measured my doorway twice before I even went looking for my storm door. When I finally settled on Anderson and not Anderson Emco, I read the installation instructions online as well. Any confusion that I may have had regarding the instructions were well explained when I opened the carton and started. I feel that the instrucitons were actually well written with the exception of the lockset instructions with which I had one nit. I took me just a little over an hour including set up and clean up time. This door had everything feature I could have asked for given the price. My other storm door was an Anderson Emco and that door isn't worth the price at all.
