I need to protect my wood entry door from the sun. It is located on the southern side of my home and no shade. Which

Anderson door offers the best protection from the sun and why?
Asked by: Atlsun
Thank you for your interest on our Andersen 4000 Series Full View Storm Doors. We apologize but our Storm Doors are not designed to protect the main entry door from UV rays and heat from the outside. These doors are made as added protection for inclement weather and can enhance the beauty of the main entry door. Customers can have the glass tinted as their option however this voids the warranty of the glass itself. If you have further questions, please contact the Andersen Solution Center at 855-337-8822 from 7:00AM to 6:00PM CST on weekdays and 8:00AM to 5:00PM CST during Saturdays and Sundays. - Trisha

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terriffic Door I've wanted an Andersen Storm door with every home i've lived in, and finally got one when i moved into my new Townhome. I luve in northern California, and we dont get many storms here, if any at all, but it sure gets hot! I ordered the door with low e dual pane gass filled glass so i could leave my woid door ooen all summef and winter. Heat nor coldvwill get padt this door. I really enjoy letting the light in to fill the room with batural light. The door is a heavyweight aluminum with reinforced corners so it doesn't wobble and the two clousers maje it open with ease! I love this door!

I purchased an Andersen Model 4000 full view insulated storm door earlier this spring and when I completed the installation, the door sagged on the latch side by over 1/4". This is enough opening that rain runs down between the door and the frame and will freeze in winter. It also allowed some of the assembly screws at the top of the latch side of the door to rub on the frame when the door was opened. When I called the number to see how to correct this or what I had done wrong, I was never able to speak with someone who knew anything about this model of door. There are multiple phone numbers but they always brought me to the same customer service people. I was offered suggestions that applied only to earlier models of the door but never got any technical answers about this door. The sales people claimed that Andersen offers great service, but I certainly did not see it. I would not recommend purchasing this door for these reasons.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Screen Bought the 4000 because it was supposed to be easier to change from glass to the screen. It is a full view glass but the screen has a bar in the middle. Looks cheap. Have window in the interior door and you can see the bar obscuring it. Also have the 3000 which has the full glass and full screen with no bar. Looks much better. Called Andersen . No help.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product with some unusual defects I first put this door in six months ago . I was very satisfied with the appearance and the ease of installation . Had multiple compliments from neighbors. The reason for the three star quality is that when the rain started this fall the material in the door swelled and the door no longer fits inn the frame as it did when I put it in. I thought the frame I fitted it in had swelled causing the problem , but found I have an eighth inch clearance between door frame and house frame so the only difference has to be in the door it self.It has expanded so that all the screws on the latch side are catching on the fram and not allowing it to close properly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great door; 45 min install? No way... If I were a professional installer and had already installed a dozen or so, MAYBE I could do this in under an hour, but being my home (and I have mad skills with tools and overall construction) this was still a three hour install to do it right. Great door. Also - it comes with a brass handle set included contrary to the past; I made the mistake of ordering an extra handle set and ended up returning it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is a top of the line product? We have a double entry door, so we paid to have our local Home Depot install. The doors look nice. I haven't swapped out the screens for the glass yet, but I'm hoping it will be as easy as it looked in the store. We have 2 problems. First, the pneumatic closers are only controllable over the last few feet of the close. With the double closer, top and bottom, the door closes very fast, and that's with just the screen (I would think it would be faster with the heavier glass). The door has clipped me in the heel several times, and both of our kids got a few scrapes and scratches. Thankfully only one drew blood. We've gotten used to it, but Anderson says that there is nothing that can be done about it. They did recommend I look into another closer, though! The alternative that they also recommended, and I did, was to disconnect the top closer. That's better, but it's still pretty quick when closing. We've gradually gotten used to it, and I understand the fear of the door being taken by the wind (the reason I was given for the fast initial close), but for a top of the line door, this is frustrating. But not as frustrating as the other problem. When they install a double storm door, it's basically a right open and a left open with a kit that makes one of them passive. That kit apparently needs a gap in the insulation along the bottom of the door to operate properly. The gap is about 2" wide x 1" high (see photo). Again, they say THERE IS NO SOLUTION! Sorry, actually they did offer two solutions: I rig up some insulation to fill the gap or I could nail a block of wood to the threshold. Seriously!??! Because we live in New England, part of the point of having full glass is so we can open them up on a sunny day in January and get more of that precious winter sunlight. I don't know how I'm going to resolve this, but again, for a top-of-the-line produce, these makeshift solutions are unacceptable. At the very lest, we should have been warned that this installation will have a significant gap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Takes time to install yourself but well worth the effort. Hands down this is the best storm door I have ever purchased. The door is heavy duty yet closes easier than any before. It closes all the way with a distinctive click. Very air tight. The full glass looks great from the street and is very easy to change to put in the screen. Everything and more than I expected. Took me several hours as a self proclaimed handyman to remove the door that was there and install this one but the directions were very easy to follow. I highly recommend and having had other Anderson windows and doors they really stand behind there product.
