Does this size window meet building codeegress requirements?

Is the opening of this window large enough to meet code for a second story bedroom?
Asked by: dave
Since every state and county may have their own codes and regulations, you would need to check with your local building codes officer to see if it meets egress for your area.

We replaced all the windows on a 100 year old farmhouse renovation that had still the original windows in tact - most of the ropes and weights on these old double hung still worked! But the drafts were crazy and hardware missing, no way to lock windows. So we gave way to insulating, siding and replacing all windows. We selected what was closest to these originals - Andersen 400 series with pine interior and white clad exteriors to skip the paint maint. over the years. The name Andersen commands quite an investment. Our contractor had been putting them in for 15 years and pulling out 30 year old Andersen windows that were still decent. He's a professional and stained the pine interiors of the windows in his shop. The different grains of pine on the window surround all act differently with the stain. Literally half of each window - the stain looks horrible, stain was not accepted. We got to see these windows long after the protective Poly was applied and they were installed. I wanted to drive down to Home Depot and through them thru their window I was so upset. I called the Andersen factory help line with this "The stain is simply floating blotchy on the wood and it looks terrible" and they said "pine is that way and you may need to sand them down in order to have them accept the stain consistently". And they're only telling me this now? What a pitiful comment at this point in time. They give you no fair warning that you will have a problem so if you don't want this, then order maple or or oak interiors, or something other than pine, which I would have. After I have $20K into it, I want to at least like looking at them, instead, I get angry and upset all over again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Stain Appearance I recently replaced 14 windows in my home on 12/14/15 at a cost of $12,000 which was performed Home Depot Home Services. The Anderson Tilt- Wash, Double Hung Pine 400 Series windows were ordered with an interior pine finish to match my previous Narrowline 200 Series Winders from 1989. Anderson provided the windows unstained which required that the homeowner (me) stain the 28 sashes since Home Depot Installation services does not offer a staining service. When I stained the pine sashes, I immediately noted that 6 of the sashes had a very different stained appearance among the sides of the same sash which required sanding and restaining. I contacted Anderson Customer Services who provided no constructive comments but referred me to a staining document which was posted on their website. I also sighted poor fit and finish issues and provided pictures and production run information to allow them the option of performing a quality audit of this specific production run. . Anderson basically stated that the variability was not uncommon and that the homeowner needed to resand all the window frames with additional preparation per their wood treatment reference document #14758. This reference document should have been (but was not) referenced in any of their window ordering specification literature. In summary, I was amazed at Anderson Windows indifference and disappointed as I had initially selected Anderson based on previous service life and name in the industry. As a result however, with this experience, I would not recommend Anderson Products in the future.
