Customer Reviews

Rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Andersen 400 Series Windows I recently installed all new Andersen windows in my home, 100 series in the garage, and 400 series in the house. The 100 series windows were cheaper, all white, only had a single weather strip seal, and needed me to provide and install the jams. Note that these windows, like many others on the market, do not come with jams as an option. The carpenter helping me commented how nice the 100 series windows were. The 400 series windows are supposed to be Andersen's premium window with better double layer weather stripping seals and pine jams. I have these windows in a rental house we own that are 40 years old and look great. The outer vinyl cladding had unfinished sharp edges in many of the corners. Also the pine jams and trim were of poor quality with cracks, knots, and different species of pine, making it very hard to evenly stain. My paint dealer said that they are using imported pine which he has had bad experiences with, especially for staining. The jams also had many scratches from poor packaging for shipment. It took me days to get the pine ready to varnish, plus smoothing out the outer vinyl cladding. Several of the windows also arrived noticeably out of plumb with the frames, causing them to bind, which will require additional work to adjust. If I had it to do over, I'd have installed all 100 series windows, bought solid oak for my jams, and had everything to match my oak trim. The 400 series windows just aren't worth the extra money especially when you consider all the extra labor. They are poorly made JUNK! June 29, 2015
