Do you have to use a chain with these bump closers?

I just had my Andersen 2500 series storm door damaged today due to wind. I had installation arranged through Home Depot. Home Depot says wind is not covered under warranty because it is an "act of God". Andersen says you shouldn't install a chain, at least with this model that has a screen that rolls up into the top section, because any screws would interfere with the screen. So we have a "Storm Door" that can't handle wind. What a lousy design.

Can't find the manual to answer any question, can you help?

I have the same issue. Very disappointing product. Less than 2 years old, and I have to pay yet another $50.00 to replace the door closer. I will never purchase another product from Andersen doors. Just a piece of junk product.

Just a stiff breeze and the door blew backwards and yanked the inside out of the bump - which should have stopped the door from opening too far... because of this, now the hinges on the door are blown out. Replacing the bump with the exact same part made me kind of queasy, no reason it can't happen again, and it didn't help the door anyway. It will no longer close unless I lift it and push it against the hinges as they are really mangled from opening the door too far. I've own several of these at my prior house, and after moving here at the new house we have three - a total of 7 of them. I've loved them except for this part (and the one door now being hinge challenged). As it goes, is this an exact replacement for the original part? Yes. Does it work? Yes. Is it robust, something to write home about, etc? Not a chance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Yikes what a defect! Had problems with the original door closure since installing it and it finally froze so I bought this replacement kit which froze IMMEDIATELY. Andersone has a real problem on their hands with this blatant part failure

It is almost impossible to get the door to close with a steady controlled force. Its either too fast and slams or too slow (lets in flys and bugs) and needs assistance to close. This is the case with all three doors. Anderson needs to get with their supplier and re-engineer this thing to work right!

Only the standard closer worked as the newer push button model (that I had to replace from a brand new door that got flung open by a strong wind) only opened the door and then would not close again as the button did not work. The hold open clip for the standard closer was missing from box as well. Just disappointed with the Emco storm door with built in screen in general as you can't install with a safety chain. Thankfully the screen door is installed on door we don't use much so just keep it locked so the replacement door closer doesn't get ruined again.

They damage too easily if someone (in my case, remodeling/painting contractors) opens it all the way and engages the stop. It is adequate. I purchased the same replacement because installation is easier that way, no need for repairing old drilling holes, etc. I am moving soon, so the next homeowner can deal with it.... Old fashioned door closers, although less sleek looking, seem to last a lot longer and only need replacing when they get tired-looking.

Since it was a replacement for the closer that came with the door, the mounting holes lined right up - installation took about 1 minute. The plunger moved the way it was supposed to, pushing the button in locked the open position as designed, and the door closed by pushing it slightly in the open position as it had been designed to do.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Different door frame mount I bought a replacement bump closer kit to replace the factory store bought door part and it was not a simple swap out. The new parts required redrilling of the door frame bracket and were nothing like the original mounting brackets that came with the original door. The parts work fine, just be prepared to reinstall the brackets.

Now, on March 9, so less than 3 months, the wind caught the door and popped the end right off the closer. I would say that is defective equipment. I wish these companies would just make something a little better than a little cheaper.
