The wind had blown my door open and damaged the closer bracket at the door jamb. Can I get these parts without purchasing the complete closer kit?

Some of the storm door models offer the bracket only. Please contact us at 800-933-3626 for assistance. Be prepared to provide your serial number which can be found on the hinge-side edge of the door. This will help in properly identifying your door.

What is the non-bump one for? My door has glass/screen slider and if used at the top, screws would interfere with roller mechanism.

Answer:
The bump- closer has the button that you can tap with your foot to hold the door open. The non-bump closer uses the 'Hold Open Washer' that you slide to the position where you want the door to be held open at. For doors with a retractable screen only one closer is used at the bottom of the door.

Thank you for your question. We do not recommend installing wind chain on our storm doors. Our experience, which is backed up by tests conducted by our Engineering department, is that a wind chain does not significantly increase the ability of the door to resist wind damage. In fact, our tests indicate that, under certain conditions, the presence of a wind chain may actually increase the likelihood of damage to the door and door jamb. Because of this, we strongly discourage the installation of wind chains on our doors and do not offer one. If you wish, you can certainly install a third-party wind chain on your door. However, if you do this, please be aware of the fact that any damage due to the presence of a wind chain would be excluded from coverage under the terms of the door's Warranty. - Noel Read Less

It is almost impossible to get the door to close with a steady controlled force. Its either too fast and slams or too slow (lets in flys and bugs) and needs assistance to close. This is the case with all three doors. Anderson needs to get with their supplier and re-engineer this thing to work right!

They damage too easily if someone (in my case, remodeling/painting contractors) opens it all the way and engages the stop. It is adequate. I purchased the same replacement because installation is easier that way, no need for repairing old drilling holes, etc. I am moving soon, so the next homeowner can deal with it.... Old fashioned door closers, although less sleek looking, seem to last a lot longer and only need replacing when they get tired-looking.

Just a stiff breeze and the door blew backwards and yanked the inside out of the bump - which should have stopped the door from opening too far... because of this, now the hinges on the door are blown out. Replacing the bump with the exact same part made me kind of queasy, no reason it can't happen again, and it didn't help the door anyway. It will no longer close unless I lift it and push it against the hinges as they are really mangled from opening the door too far. I've own several of these at my prior house, and after moving here at the new house we have three - a total of 7 of them. I've loved them except for this part (and the one door now being hinge challenged). As it goes, is this an exact replacement for the original part? Yes. Does it work? Yes. Is it robust, something to write home about, etc? Not a chance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Closer that Home Depot Should Cease Carrying. Rarely do I write a negative review. Don't waste your money on this closer. Bought an Anderson replacement storm door closer. Out of the box, it did not work. Had to call Customer Service of the supplier twice to get a replacement. Received another closer. Same problem - out of the box it did not work. The button was stuck in the down position and the rod would not budge. (As part of normal function, the rod must go in and out of the body of the closer.) I gave up. I no longer have any closer on the storm door. Looking at the other comments, these Andersen replacement closers tend to be defective which indicates poor construction. Home Depot should stop carrying them and also stop carrying the Andersen storm doors. Parts wear out and customers should be able to get working replacement parts.

Since it was a replacement for the closer that came with the door, the mounting holes lined right up - installation took about 1 minute. The plunger moved the way it was supposed to, pushing the button in locked the open position as designed, and the door closed by pushing it slightly in the open position as it had been designed to do.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Add me too. This is our 3 closer. The first lasted 2-3 years. It wouldn't keep the door closed and eventually the hinges became mangled by the wind jerking it open. The second one we received in July and the first time we used the button, the rod stayed in the extended position and we couldn't close the door unless we removed it. The third came today . When I opened the box the button is stuck down and the rod is in the retracted position. All this pulling has caused the frame of my door to become loose. I hate to think we are going to need a new door!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Door Because of limitations in the mounting of the bump closer, my door doesn't open a full 90 degrees. Is there some replacement part (such as a longer arm) that I could use to allow the door to open more fully?
