Customer Questions & Answers

can I apply this stripper on my exterior covered deck and then remove it with a pressure washer?

can I apply this stripper on my exterior covered deck and then remove it with a pressure washer?
Asked by: tim
All these jell type strippers evaporate quickly in the sun. You'll need to cover the deck with something to keep the hot sun off. This Aqua Strip is special for working on fiberglass gelcoat boats, it does not harm the gelcoat. There are other jell type strippers that you can use on your house wood deck that might be less expensive and stronger. and the answer is yes, after it does its thing you can wash it off with a pressure washer, I can't think of a better way.

Cover It With Pallet Wrap & Leave 24 hours, easier to wrap & wait than to have to do it 3 times. I had to remove some kind of home brew non-skid deck paint on a 1968 Boston Whaler, paint type unknown. It had so much sand mixed in that it wore out the tips of my work boots. Sand paper can't remove sandpaper so I researched and decided to try this product. My deck has the Boston Whaler molded in non-skid surface, then the nasty "home brew" on top. I knew it would be difficult to remove this unknown brew. I thought it might even be an epoxy & sand filler, which I doubt Aqua Strip can removal. Therefore, I decided to cover the Aqua Strip with plastic sheet pallet wrap to keep it from evaporating the longest time possible and let it do its thing. I let it sit 24 hours , then went to scrape it off with a half a skilsaw blade I use as a scraper. It look it off! It was a pile of sand. All that was left was what was in the valleys of the original molded in non-skid deck and that I easily removed with a stainless steel wire brush. If you have a tough job, clean the surface with water, and put on the Aqua Strip on the damp deck, and cover it with pallet wrap or stretch plastic food wrap and leave it for 24 hrs or longer. As long as it does not dry, it is active. It is easier to wrap and wait than to have to do it 3 times.

I doubt I am alone, but for my 2001 Searay 280 bottom, 1st tried orbital sander, then mini sand blaster, anf finally a belt sander. Bottom paint was so thick it gummed up sandpaper. So decided to use this product as most had it rated high. Expected a bit more, but does work - sort of. 1st coat, let it set 12 hrs, 55 degree temps and no sun, took a film (probabaly one coat) coat of paint off. Reapplied it very generously and thick, let it set 24 hrs, 60 dreee temp, no sun, and wetted it down every few hrs. Tried power washing and it took a few more coats off but but very spotty, so eventually boat was only stripped down about 20-30%. Tried scraping it off which did not work either. Bottom line, I suspect if this would work after 5-8 applications, then MAYBE it would take everything off, but it was no miracle worker for sure. So, does it work? not for me the way I hoped, but assume for newer paint, probabaly works great

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it says. Aqua strip works just like it says it does. Used it on my speed boat to remove unwanted paint from gelcoat that previous owner added. Works best in the temperature & times that are on the instructions. Hot days of 90+ degrees and direct sun light don't work so well just like the instructions say, stripper dries out to quick in the heat. Most of my stripping was done in 80-85 degree weather and partial cloudy skies. The can says it should work in 15 minutes to 4 hours, the Aqua strip started bubbling paint in anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour. The thinner the paint, the quicker the time. In places where the paint was thick and had primer underneath, it took one coat to remove paint and some primer, and a second coat to remove the remaining primer. Took less than a half gallon to strip 18' low profile Tahiti Tiger down to original gelcoat. Not sure how it works in other parts of the country, I live in Colorado at 6200 ft., temperature is warm to hot, and dry for the most part. Zane.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aqua Strip Remover Used it to strip 3 layers of bottom paint off a 15-foot Boston Whaler. Took 2 gallons. Outstanding results! Took off all the paint, just let it sit and let the chemicals do the work. Gel coat shine was left in tact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Better than expected I used the product to strip several layers of paint off an old aluminium trailer. Most of the paint came off with one application. it is important to "let the stripper work for you". I applied as instructed and rehydrated the applied areas with a spray bottle of water every 20 minutes or so, leaving it on for at least 2 hours.....sun baked areas have been more troublesome, but overall it was well worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome stuff Works as promised. Had several layers of old bottom paint on a fiberglass boat. Put it on thick with a roller, misted it to keep it wet since it was almost 100 degrees out. Waited about 4 hours. Scraped it off with a plastic scraper. Took all but a thin base coat off. Wetsanded with 1000 grit paper and buffed. Looks like new figerglass.
