Customer Questions & Answers

We were told there was no caulking on this unit. Just set in place and water runs off. Is this correct?

Asked by: Kathy
When installing the wall section on top of the base, it is essential to run a nice bead of 100% silicone caulk on that ledge before placing the wall section on top. This help keep things water tight. The second caulking woudl be done to finish the front seam. We recommend you do so on this particular unit.

when i looked at the question i realized i might have written it wrong can I use the existing 36in drain pan with this insert or does one come with it

There is no drain pan. The base connects directly to the drain pipe with strainer such as Model # 825-2PPK.

The base must be level and lined up with the drain pipe. If you have access from underneath that would be helpful. To level the unit you shim at up to three places. Either side of the front, plus there is a block at the center of the back. Also make sure the walls are plumb or they lean out. If they lean in you will have to shim the lower section away from the wall, otherwise you won't get a tight seam between the upper and lower sections. You'll need a full tube a mildew-resistant pure clear silicone caulk, some shims, and some paint thinner and rags to clean up any silicone smears. I recommend pouring some paint thinner in a plastic bucket along with a rag and having it handy as you apply the silicone. Dried on silicone can be removed by carefully scraping off excess with a new razor blade followed by a rag soaked in paint thinner. Instructions recommend applying the same paste wax you'd put on a car to help keep the shower clean.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Aquatic Shower I bought this shower last year for my cabin up north. The unit is very nice looking and well built. I strongly suggest putting down some quickcrete under any fiberglass shower pan to help it support the weight of humans. After time fiberglass will weaken from constant flexing. A little fast drying cement is a simple and easy solution. This shower is relatively easy to install. The upper section is narrower than the bottom so it will need a few more shims. Overall I think this is a great shower. I gave it 4 stars just because support on the back side of the pan (that rests on the floor) was really crooked thus making the shower sit off level. I simply had to mark it with a straight edge and cut it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Neutral The shower seems to be of decent quality. The instructions advise to pour plaster of paris under the base before installation. I found this to be a messy and complicated project in my situation. I had to barricade off the walls and drain so that no plaster would run out. Plus, with my PVC drain, I had to mix plaster, disperse it, then cement the drain and set the base. That was my project but yours could be easier. This is a less expensive alternative to tiling a shower. We will see how it holds up over the years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Unit for Remodeling Project We recently remodeled our bathroom and replaced a worn out tub with this 36" unit. The two piece unit was just what we needed since we couldn't get a solid unit through our interior doors. It was a breeze to install and has ample room for a comfortable shower.
