Can this be mounted in a alcove that has drywall already installed or would you have to take it down to the studs?

Asked by: Troy
has to be taken down to the studs, as this is a stud mount unit. and for fit, drywall needs to be out of the way or you will never get the walls in. they have no play to them, very stiff.

HOW DO YOU CUT THIS MATERIAL (FRP)? I HAVE A WINDOW THAT I WANT TO INCLUDE PART OF, IN THE SHOWER AREA.

Asked by: SPFLDMA
It's messy. This may not be best way, but I used a grinder to cut out the window, but I only had to cut the flange on top. Grinder worked well, but again, it's not exposed (covered with a sill).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Easy Task I have done a few of these. This time was very difficult. Make sure you have adequate space to turn the unit into place. Plan on 70". If your bathroom is only 5' wide and you have to turn sideways, you have a problem...even with a two piece unit. They don't bend. You had better plan on removing a wall. Not the unit's fault. The planner made an error. I did consider purchasing a 4 piece plastic tub, but after replacing so many mobile home plastic tubs, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. This may have been the time to try one! In short, I like these units...make sure you have adequate space to get them in to a remodel.

My installer put a bed of mortar under tub so it did not flex when getting in/out. Where the walls meet the tub, there is quite a big gap, but haven't noticed any leaks yet.

We installed this shower in our in-law apartment and is the first full bath in our home. First problem is that the back does not lay flat against an already level wall! It's wavy so some areas had to be shimmed while others didn't along the back to make it sit flat. The sides in the front range in thickness!!!! So when installing Sheetrock you have to shim the heck out of it so make it look as if it's level and straight up and down! Next the soaking tub itself is really just for children. I was super excited to have a bath in our home and "tried it out" for leaks;) I'm 5' 6" and size 6 and I did not fit in this bath not to mention there's not enough room for my hips and arms to lay along side me. In a way this is my fault #1 you get what you pay for #2 go see this in the store before you buy it online! Water depth can be filled about 8" before hitting the overflow and the tun itself is about 18" wide!!!!! I did look at the spec sheet prior to purchase and they did not show the inner dimension but I couldn't believe it lost over 12" in width. on a good note it looks like it will be easy to clean but I don't think it will be used often due to the lack of elbow space even when trying to shower never-mind taking a bath.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hate this tub!!! I was upgrading from a 1970's steel tub. I thought this would be great because one seam would not mold and mildew. The shelves look like great storage, of which I had none in my existing shower. I was WRONG! I live in a decent size townhouse, and the tub surround did not fit up the stairs. It had to come over the balcony, then it won't fit through any standard doorway! Apparently, the contractor cracked it getting it in (that is a different story). Also, I am a size 14 lady. I cannot put on ANY weight if I want to keep this tub. My hips fit quite tight in this tub. It makes a bath very "cozy," and not in a good way. The gap between the surround and the tub is very large in my opinion. The contractor used mildew resistant, silicone caulking. It is clear, but there is still not very attractive in my opinion. The curvy shelves fit less than I thought they would, due to their curvy design. The color is fine. I am not a pro, I have no idea if the quality is good. If I knew before what I know now, there is NO WAY I would have spent any money on this tub.
