Customer Questions & Answers

Does this bath have a textured or smooth bottom?

Asked by: Bernie
It has a textured bottom that NEVER comes clean. It is permanently discolored. Would have been better to have a smooth bottom and let the customer buy a mat to put on the bottom.

A2 6030CTR 5 ft. Right Hand Drain Soaking Tub in White is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flanges slanted The flanges on front of the tub is slanted and doesn't fit against the wall stud. They are off 1/4" on each side. The drawings that came with the tub and the drawings on the internet from the manufacturer didn't show the slant. When I called Aquatic tech services they sent me a drawing showing that the top of the tub was 60" and the bottom of the tub was 59 1/2". When I asked them how I was suppose to put my drywall over the slanted flange they said that I had to build the wall out at the bottom on each side 1/4". I've never heard of anything like this and I think it is a defective product. I went to the store to see if the one on display was slanted and it was. And where they had screwed the slanted flange into the shelf caused the flange to crack. I called tech service again and they said if I didn't like the way it was made to return it. I've already put plaster of Paris under it and fitted my drain. So now it's really heavy and on my second floor and will be a pain to take back. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the drywall over the flange and have a nice finish??????

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice tub, other than the cracking. During the installation of the tub, two of the four corners cracked in the nailing flange. I was able to use super glue and seal them back up so that they did not continue to crack into the visible area of the tub. Otherwise, the tub is very solid and it feels extremely well planted even without using a concrete base.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Water collects behind tub/surround I had this product (tub & 3-pc surround) installed 6 days ago. I asked the installers about the gap between tub and surround - needed caulking? Was assured it did not, that it was "self-draining". Maybe in front of the surround, but it becomes water-logged in the deep, unseen 2" behind tub/surround when shower water hits it. Takes many paper towels and a lot of time to get water from behind surround/tub in corners and all the way around. Then I used a hair dryer to finish drying. I'm having a hard time finding someone to make this tub/surround waterproofed behind it!! I'd hate to see this set after a year or two of standing water behind it - would be black with mold. Manufacturer should do the right thing and give instructions on heavy caulking, backer rods, vinyl corner pieces, etc, to waterproof unit behind the tub/surround!!! (Don't blame discoloration on "hard water" or other nonsense!) Suggest you not buy this product unless you include in the installation waterproofing the unit!! My set has been installed for 6 days, unused, until I can find some way to get it waterproofed. Will have to wait to see if the tub cracks, like it has with a lot of other reviewers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst purchase ever I purchased my Aquatic A2 tub a little over a year ago. In less than one year the tub became discolored (I could see black along the ledges). Two different representatives gave me two different explanations. The first agreed with me that the finish was coming off. He blamed my using Scrubbing Bubbles and a nylon scrubber. I learned from him that I was supposed to use Dawn dish liquid and a sponge only. The company does not tell you this. They only tell you to use nonabrasive cleaners. In my mind that means no Comet cleanser or steel wool. The second representative from a different refinishing company said the gray discoloration along the edges was due to hard water buildup. He recommended using elbow grease and Bonami cleanser, followed by Gel Coat to wax the tub so future water would drip down to the bottom of the tub. The Bonami cleanser and elbow grease did not work nor did Lime Away, which I decided to try because it is made for water buildup. The Lime Away did get the sides of the tub clean but had no effect on the gray streaks on the ledge. My conclusion is that the gray streaks are indeed the wearing away of the finish on the tub. I asked the company to send out their A2 engineer to figure out the problem and fix it. The company won't respond to me anymore. They disown any complaints that are related to hard water, but they never give you a warning prior to purchasing that this tub does not do well with hard water. I now have a tub that will only get worse over the years with black streaks of the finish being eaten away. I will not be able to sell my home with that tub in place. The cost of the tub and surround ($747) is nothing compared to the cost of the labor ($1,300) to remove the old tub and install a new one. What a waste! And I had done my homework in researching the best tub to install. No warnings from any reviews prepared me for this problem. I plan to sue the company. I have posted my complaint here and in Yelp to warn any future buyers. If you don't have a water softener in your home, I wouldn't risk getting this tub. A tub should be made to withstand hard water as well as bathroom cleaners and nylon scrubbers. My other tub made of PVC doesn't have any of these problems. Neither did my previous fiberglass tubs. A2 is a special material designed by the company. They call it a gel coat. You can't refinish it or use any fiberglass repair kits on it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from STOP! Do not buy these tubs.... I did not head the warning of other reviews referencing cracks to tub corners and flanges.... I ordered 6 tubs for a small mult-family apartment. ALL SIX TUBS HAD CRACKS. Can you say wasted time, money, effort with my contracting crews??? Have you ever tried to coordinate orders, deliveries, returns with Home Depot? Not always easy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flawed design subject to cracking Upon inspection and before installation, the tub had a crack at front right corner that started traveling across. Called Home Depot and they delivered a second one. Same crack on the right side this time. I sent it back and bought a steel tub. The design should be modified to beef up the corners and prevent this cracking. It would not take a lot to make this design change and it would then be a descent bathtub.
