Answer:
Standard garden hose connector. They actually sell a hose with the connector attached. (Not a garden hose, but a 10 or 12 foot piece of rubber hose found in the appliance section, near the dehumidifier)

Answer:
You can set the fan to run continuously, or set the humiditiy at a certain level and the fan will stop when it reaches that level and start again when it gets higher. We had our running continuously until our basement reached 50% humidity, then set the level at 50% and turned the fan to cycle on and off based on that.

Customer Reviews

50-Pint Dehumidifier is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 132.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from dehumifier dilemma I bought this product not never hearing of Arctic Aire or Danby....like another reviewer said the box looked like it was thrown down a flight of stairs, the machine was intact....unfortunately it gave me an error code. The manufacturer told me it was a refrigerant problem. Home depot customer support was most helpful, I brought the defective one back for a full refund and the new one arrived in 4 days not beat up and working perfectly .... I had an old Capehart that was 15 years old and worked well but was an electricity hog, bought a Frigidaire 4 years ago it lasted less than 3 years. And if I remember correctly if something goes wrong within 90 days, I don't have to fix it under warranty, I can have it replaced.... that's a plus !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Run the AC less! We're amazed at how much water has come out of our home and continues to as we run the dehumidifier each day. Instead of turning the AC on at 10 am, we now turn it on about 4 pm for a few hours. Some days we don't turn the AC on at all. Tip - empty before the marker gets to the top as otherwise the container gets really heavy. Drawers and pocket doors now slide easier too. We're delighted. This product vents to the side if that's important to you. We bought a second one to put in our crawl space because the first one is staying in the house!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent unit My crawl space has been lined with plastic and waterproofing paint but still remains the most damp area in my home. I added a dehumidifier a few years back and although it kept the moisture at bay, it sounded like a diesel engine running just below the living room floor. Not only was it loud but it dimmed the lights every time it cycled on. I was not unhappy when it recently died. I asked a neighbor what brand of dehumidifier he recommended and his answer was an enthusiastic "Danby." I learned that Danby makes the Arctic Aire product line and was thrilled to find that this line was carried by the Home Depot, was on sale, and could be delivered to my doorstep for free. I specifically needed a side-discharge unit since it was going in a crawl space and so many of the dehumidifiers on the market today are top-discharge. I wasted no time ordering it and it was delivered in just a few days in perfect condition. I installed the permanent drain hose adapter which was a breeze, placed the unit in my crawl space and fired it up. I waited for the noise but it remained whisper quiet. Within minutes a steady stream of water flowed from the drain hose showing it was not only much quieter than my old unit but was actually drawing out way more moisture too. This unit does not dim the lights at startup indicating a much better motor starting characteristic. Hope this means it will last longer. The control panel is easy to read and operate and the built-in humidity display is a very nice feature. Did I mention how quiet it was? Overall this seems to be a top-of-the-line product, a very good value, and I highly recommend it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product this unit is very quite as well as light and easy to move around ive owned several dehumidifiers due to a damp basement and none have removed moisture like this one
Date published: 2015-06-05
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I especially like this unit as it cycles on and off as needed. Other units that I considered have fans that run continuously. The setup of the unit was very simple and the performance of it is excellent. I have a fairly large cellar and the humidity level has been well controlled all summer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from works well Dehumidifier works good , its not quiet but not really loud. The draw to empty is poor quality cracked first week of use. Unit would rate excellent except for cheap plastic draw

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice and quiet.... I am very pleased with this dehumidifier - so far. As long as it continues to operate quietly and efficiently, I will recommend it to others. The only concern I have is the electronic controls. I'm old school and prefer mechanical settings. Otherwise, thank you for a good quality product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Also missing screws! Company will NOT provide. I purchased this unit based on previous reviews. When I set it up to drain into a hose, the instruction book indicated the adapter, drain tube and two (2) screws were included in the "accessory bag" located in the bucket. The adapter and tube were in the bucket but there was no bag. The screws were missing. I registered the unit for the warranty which guarantees parts and sent an e-mail regarding the missing screws. I followed up with a phone call only to be told I will have to purchase the screws because the company does not stock them! Really? I purchased this unit which is supposed to include the screws and am now told--if you want them, you have to go buy them. "They aren't that expensive." While this may be a good product as far as removing moisture from my basement, I am perturbed that the company does not provide all the items needed to correctly install the unit. I considered returning it as a matter of principle! So--buy it for it's ability to dehumidify but don't expect Danby to stand behind their product!
