Where do you pour the water in

Is it energy efficient? Or will it run up the electric bill?

Asked by: Donna
Evap coolers are much more energy efficient than AC units in dry climates. They only have a fan and a small pump where an AC unit has a fan and a compressor which draws much more energy. The AC unit compressor has to work much harder to compress the refrigerant to remove heat from the air where as the evap cooler uses water to lower the air temperature. This unit will use about as much energy as a box fan so it shouldn't have much of an impact on your electrical bill.

Is it costly to the energy bill

Asked by: DTG
I haven't noticed any spike in the energy bill, and it would be much less impact than the amount of fans you would have to plug in to get the same effect in my opinion.

Will I be able to purchase or build a new cooler pad when this one begins to mold?
Asked by: sam
You can try to buy one from Home Depot, I have had little luck. As far as making one, I was kicking it around, but the filter is such a solid block thing, you would have to replicate that in order to get the same seal it has with the "media", so I haven't tried to do it yet.

It's quiet, has many amazing features. Works right out of the box, add water and Ice on top. It has a ice compartment on top!!! I just Love, Love,Love this product. It has a swing mode, blows air left and right. Up down adjustments as well. I bought a portable Air Condition last year...... its loud, expensive, and unless you sit right in front of it your sweating. After reading other bad reviews about this product, I was so hot and uncomfortable I was desperate for relief from the heat. I took a leap of faith and bought this. Woot!!! Worth every penny so far!!!!!!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice cooler Works well in large room. Low humidity in southern Arizona makes it a great solution to the heat, lately hovering around 100°! Two design details need attention. Power cord needs to be about twice as long_only about 3.5 to 4' now. Older homes like ours don't always have outlets close enough to appropriate doors or windows, where a portable cooler should be placed. Had to secure another extension cord just for that. Second, an irritating design choice : a very small transparent window to display water level. It's located just a few inches off the floor, & very hard to utilize without shining a light through the filler door to make sure you have the appropriate water level. An external level tube would be much easier to see and would not require a great deal of effort to incorporate. No additional gripes, otherwise! Sorry, one more thing. The display should be backlit! People, we are well into the 21st century.... this is not rocket science and with current LED lighting technology, should be quite inexpensive to utilize. I'm 70 & do not need additional obstacles to deal with. Still, after all that, it does it's primary job well. I should say that I have only used it for about a week, and I would normally like to wait a couple of months, at least, to get a better idea of long-term functionality. An update in September or October would be more meaningful, but wouldn't be helpful this summer. I'll be happy to respond to questions.

At around 20 hrs of operation the internal pump has failed. This isn't the reason for the low rating. I understand that manufacturing defects happen. The low rating is for the reason that the manufacture does not carrying parts for this unit. I called the customer service line and spoke with Brian. After explaining the problem with the unit his response was to return the unit to the store. For some users this would be an acceptable response, but for me this raises a "red flag". If this unit were to fail after the warranty period, I would be left with a non-repairable unit, or left to find an alternate source of parts.

I live in CO, which is generally dry when it's hot. I totally agree and emphasize what some others have said...start it up before it gets hot or it can't catch up. It does a great job keeping my 1100' southwest exposure loft cool as long as I turn it on in the morning (it barely changes my utility bill). If you think of it as a cooling barrier before the heat, you'll get along with it just fine.

It is a little heavy for me to lift (60 yr old woman) especially if it has water in it. I like to keep it on a table top to give the moist air a greater "fall" distance. I have not had any problems with it.

The first unit breaks down under 1 year so it was under warranty. It was very close to one year too. The fan swing side to side motor stop working. Arctic Cove was nice enough to give me a new replacement. The Remote also has cracks and hard to close and they mail me another remote. I was happy with their service but their product are just not reliable. And again last week the water pump finally give out after about under 2 year. This time it was out of warranty and they don't sell the replacement part. So now I have a swamp cooler that work as only a fan. I will try to fix it myself as I am very handy and repairing stuff.
