You close the lid by pressing down on it firmly. Start at the edge and work your way around the full circumference of the lid. You will here a pop when it is secure. To remove the lid. You pull up on the little tabs on the sides of the lid. These lids can be a little tough to remove at first, but over time the little tabs loosen up a bit to make removal a lot easier, with out compromising the sealing Read More

Answer: 
1. Set your lid on the rim of the bucket seated and centered properly.
2. If possible use a rubber mallet (if you don't have that, use a hammer with a block of wood or the heal of
your hand) pound around on top of edge until you hear and feel the lid snap in place
3. Lid cannot be removed unless you tear off strip at bottom of lid and then it can go on and off as desired.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Creates fantastic seal between bucket and lid I purchased this lid because it has a gasket that creates a nice seal between the bucket and the lid. I use it with my cyclone dust collector bucket and it works great. The better seal the more suction you get and as far as bucket lids go. I think this lid creates just about the best seal you are going to get. This lid can be pretty tough to remove from the bucket at first, but over time the tabs on the side you have to pull up on to release the lid from the bucket loosen a bit and it becomes much easier.
