Runs great, splits everything I put in it.
FYI - If your 34-ton serial number is 11,000 and higher, you won't need the table listed as an accessory. That table is not compatible. You need the table with part # 71702900, which will list as the one for the 22-ton model. The newer model also comes with the log cradle.

I had been borrowing a friends splitter for a season or two and wanted to make sure that I got one that had ample power. That's also why I picked the 34 TON over the 22 and 27.
To begin with; The delivery was on time, the deliver person did all the work and put the pallet right in my driveway. It took a while to get it off the pallet, because it was well secured.
I only had to attach the towing bar with four heavy duty carriage bolts (included) and away we go.
I checked the motor oil (ready to go) and the hydrolic fluid (had about 80% of capacity, as they said it would) so I added about 2 gallons.
The Subaru started on the very first pull and has done so every other time that I've used it so far. (Approx 15 sessions of 30 minutes to 3 hours).
Sips the gasoline. I think I split an entire cord on gallon or so of gas.
Has plenty of strength. I have not had it stall on any logs. If it doesn't split it, it just cuts it. Pretty common on stringy pine and knotty eucalyptus.
It does have a little slower "cycle time" than some other models, but I knew that and still wanted the extra oomph of the 34 TON. Usually, when I split a log I don't have the wedge return all the way anyway. I just have it return far enough to reset the log and make the next split.
Very happy with it.
The only thing that I had go wrong was the main valve, which is lined up dead center with the ram, was a little loose and so kind of swiveled. I thought this was part of the design at first, but a little fluid was coming out too. I called Ariens and they said that I could take it to a local dealer for warranty............or take a 7/8" wrench and tighten it. Which is what I did. Piece of cake.
Also wanted to mention that I usually run it at a 3/4 throttle and it works just fine.
Finally, wanted to add that I haven't yet used it in the vertical position. I find that to be a slower way to work. But what I really do like is the height of the work area in the horizontal position. I don't have to bend over at all.

The Ariens splitter got good reviews so I thought I would try it. I ordered it at the store and asked to pick up at the store. As I was following the tracking, I found it was not being delivered to HD but to an Ariens dealer, they in turn would deliver it to me and they also provide all support. I picked up the splitter and used it for one hour splitting mostly oak. The unit had no trouble splitting the logs. I thought the cycle time was slow. Returning the unit to the garage I noticed both stripper plates were bent and the wheel fenders bent down. The stripper plates are thin and the reinforcement the Airiens had placed on the plates is unless. The fenders are bent as they are in the direct line for the splits to fall on. Also there is no way to lock the splitter in the vertical position. If I were to keep the splitter I would remove the fenders and weld some flat plate steel to the stripper plates. After an hour, parts were bending and I already would need to wrench on the splitter. My thinking was wow 2k for a splitter and this is happening already, I don't want to own it after 50 hours of use. I called Ariens about the issues and they said to take it to a dealer (Not HD) and they will evaluate the machine, I said no thanks I will just return it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JGD1 Great product at a competative price
Log splitter performed well under heavy loads and I liked the handle center mounted. The motor ran very smooth and started with little effort. The only problem I ran into was the splitting wedge seperated from the piston due to the beam being crowned enough to dig in a pull away. The company sent out a new wedge and I smoothed out the beam and everthing is up and running!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by smitty great machine works good on hardwood(eucaluptis)
used splitter approx.ONE HOUR, spiltting wedge bound up halfway thru log.when i retracted wedge, only ram came back,,,wedge stayed in log.used chainsaw to remove log, found ram pin holder bracket ripped out.sharp edge on bottom of wedge slide dug into frame when retracted causing problem. ONE WEEK to get complete splitter delivered.Advised 2 to 3 WEEKS to get wedge only---WHY!!!! still waiting..Not satisfied with response from ARIENS, they seemed to question my interpretation of problem, and infered operator abuse of machine and not ill design of wedge base and inferior ram attaching brackets (soft metal) .

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by azpecan Buy Ariens. Returned 27 ton for 34 ton.
Bought the 27 ton but it wasn't strong enough to go through some of my Pecan rounds. Home Depot was amazing in letting me return it for a full refund, then turn right around to buy the 34 ton. They also called HD online for me and we're able to get me the 10% military discount over the phone, even though HD's new policy is only to give the 10% in store. So, that saved me $200. Buy the ISO32 hydraulic oil when you buy the splitter, you will need it. I had to add a gallon once I pushed fluid into the lines. the work table fits great I bought that as well. The Subaru engine runs quiet and strong. The muffler is in a bad spot it blows exhaust on your leg, but it's not a huge deal. This is a well built sturdy splitter. The fenders will bend when logs fall on them but it doesn't really bother me. I care more that it runs strong and splits everything I throw at it, which this splitter does. Ariens customer service is top notch. They sent me a replacement coupler and a replacement fender no questions asked, lickety split, free of charge. I live that this machine is made in the USA with the exception of the Subaru motor. Great looking machine. Also the 34 ton has the tongue jack with wheel....this is a GREAT feature. Really saves on my back. Working height is great for me, I am 5'7". Manual is easy to follow. I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THIS SPLITTER, ARIENS, AND HOME DEPOT. I looked for 6 months and am glad I made this INVESTMENT!!! Thanks Home Depot!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mike and Matt we love the 34 ton model
it splits all types of wood from gnarley elm to box elder, some pieces were 30 inch plus wide, crotches weren't even a slow down for the unit.my son is always out in the woods splitting for us or friends, we split elm, box elder, ash, shag bark hickory and both red an white oak. we use to rent from hardware stores but they mostly rent iron and oak which does not split or trailer very well in my opinion. trailers so well you almost forget its be hind you except u don't go above 40 mph. should have bought years ago

Couldn't be happier with this splitter. Doesn't bog down on the gnarliest of wood and always starts on the first or second pull regardless single digit temps. The underrated Subaru engine is bullet proof and seems to out perform the more popular Hondas or briggs & Strattons.
