I always used a friend’s log splitter. I thought it was time to buy own after 10years (2015). I used a 27 ton most of the time, so went a little bigger the 34 ton. I pick the 34 ton log splitter up at the store. They were very helpful. I got it home and put gas in it and one pull it started up. Ran smooth. I put a big log on it and it split it like nothing. I used it to split about 5 cord of wood. I was very happy with the buy. I also bought a cover for it too. I still have more to do.

works good. The bottom plate is small for the size of splitter.

The Ariens splitter got good reviews so I thought I would try it. I ordered it at the store and asked to pick up at the store. As I was following the tracking, I found it was not being delivered to HD but to an Ariens dealer, they in turn would deliver it to me and they also provide all support. I picked up the splitter and used it for one hour splitting mostly oak. The unit had no trouble splitting the logs. I thought the cycle time was slow. Returning the unit to the garage I noticed both stripper plates were bent and the wheel fenders bent down. The stripper plates are thin and the reinforcement the Airiens had placed on the plates is unless. The fenders are bent as they are in the direct line for the splits to fall on. Also there is no way to lock the splitter in the vertical position. If I were to keep the splitter I would remove the fenders and weld some flat plate steel to the stripper plates. After an hour, parts were bending and I already would need to wrench on the splitter. My thinking was wow 2k for a splitter and this is happening already, I don't want to own it after 50 hours of use. I called Ariens about the issues and they said to take it to a dealer (Not HD) and they will evaluate the machine, I said no thanks I will just return it.

Log splitter performed well under heavy loads and I liked the handle center mounted. The motor ran very smooth and started with little effort. The only problem I ran into was the splitting wedge seperated from the piston due to the beam being crowned enough to dig in a pull away. The company sent out a new wedge and I smoothed out the beam and everthing is up and running!

Runs great, splits everything I put in it.
FYI - If your 34-ton serial number is 11,000 and higher, you won't need the table listed as an accessory. That table is not compatible. You need the table with part # 71702900, which will list as the one for the 22-ton model. The newer model also comes with the log cradle.

I had been borrowing a friends splitter for a season or two and wanted to make sure that I got one that had ample power. That's also why I picked the 34 TON over the 22 and 27.
To begin with; The delivery was on time, the deliver person did all the work and put the pallet right in my driveway. It took a while to get it off the pallet, because it was well secured.
I only had to attach the towing bar with four heavy duty carriage bolts (included) and away we go.
I checked the motor oil (ready to go) and the hydrolic fluid (had about 80% of capacity, as they said it would) so I added about 2 gallons.
The Subaru started on the very first pull and has done so every other time that I've used it so far. (Approx 15 sessions of 30 minutes to 3 hours).
Sips the gasoline. I think I split an entire cord on gallon or so of gas.
Has plenty of strength. I have not had it stall on any logs. If it doesn't split it, it just cuts it. Pretty common on stringy pine and knotty eucalyptus.
It does have a little slower "cycle time" than some other models, but I knew that and still wanted the extra oomph of the 34 TON. Usually, when I split a log I don't have the wedge return all the way anyway. I just have it return far enough to reset the log and make the next split.
Very happy with it.
The only thing that I had go wrong was the main valve, which is lined up dead center with the ram, was a little loose and so kind of swiveled. I thought this was part of the design at first, but a little fluid was coming out too. I called Ariens and they said that I could take it to a local dealer for warranty............or take a 7/8" wrench and tighten it. Which is what I did. Piece of cake.
Also wanted to mention that I usually run it at a 3/4 throttle and it works just fine.
Finally, wanted to add that I haven't yet used it in the vertical position. I find that to be a slower way to work. But what I really do like is the height of the work area in the horizontal position. I don't have to bend over at all.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by xyz Very pleased with this purchace. This machine has some real nice features, so far so good.
Took some time to get it out of the shipping crate when it arrived. Some assembly was required with hitch and remote handle, but not much time at all to get in service once out of the crate. As was mentioned, needed hydraulic oil to top the tank off. Fuel and engine oil, fired up after a couple of pulls on the the pull start. So far have split roughly about 4 cords of seasoned oak of varying sizes, did not slow down at all except for some really hard twisted grained oak, to my surprise was still able to cut through it without damage to any part of machine. The motor seems to be adequate for the size of the hydraulic system. Overall I am very pleased with this machine and would recommend it. Before I made this purchase I read all the reviews between the 34 ton opposed to the 27 ton, very happy that I made the decision to go with the 34 ton.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by VWMan Terrible Warranty Service!
I wanted to wait until after I owned my Ariens 211cc 34-ton log splitter for at least one year before I reviewed it but unfortunately, can not wait that long as I would like to give prospective buyers a heads up.
I spent almost a year researching and reading reviews before I settled on the Ariens 34-ton splitter. I purchased mine directly through HomeDepot.com in May, 2015. I probably went a little over-board as I mostly split pine and/or cedar rounds but every now and then I will come across some oak or eucalyptus. Between May, 2015 and November, 2015, I split approximately four cords of wood with the majority being Pine/Cedar.
On Saturday, November 21st, 2015, while splitting a Pine round, which was cut approximately one year prior, the splitter bogged down and would not go in any further. Thinking I must have hit a knot in the wood, I lifted the handle to bring the wedge out. Within two seconds of lifting the handle, I hear an indescribable sound and that is when I realize what had just happened. The bracket directly above the wedge connecting it to the ram, had completely snapped and broke. I was shocked as I was thinking I wouldn't have any issue splitting pine with such a strong splittler and definitely not so soon after purchasing it (six months). I contacted Ariens via their website and was directed to their nearest Authorized Service Center which was approximately one hour's drive from my house. I delivered the splitter the following Monday, November 23rd, 2015. I was advised it would take approximately two weeks to repair.
By Wednesday, December 16th, having not heard anything, I called the Warranty Service Center and asked if there was any update. I was told by the kind and extremely professional employee that they were still waiting to hear from Ariens to confirm the requested repairs were covered under the warranty. With Christmas and New Years, I waited to call back until Wednesday, January 6th, 2016. Still, the repairs were not complete as Ariens was slow in communicating with the Repair Center. On January 14th, I called and was told the same thing and I could even hear frustration in the voice of the employee at the Service Center as he wanted to repair it for me but could not until he was given the "go-ahead" from Ariens. After getting off the phone with him, I contacted Ariens Customer Service directly. I was told by a customer service representative named "David" that the Service Center would be contacted and authorized to complete the repairs. Needless to say, the Service Center never received any communication or authorization from Ariens.
Yesterday, February 8th, I spoke with the owner of the Service Center. He stated although he has yet to receive authorization, he had sympathy for the hardships I was having due to not having my splitter and he would repair it prior to receiving authorization. I picked up my splitter today and the wedge has been replaced. The owner of the Service Center advised me that Ariens has a terrible record for customer service and for warranty repairs. It is because of this, I give a one star review. When I save up money to purchase a product, specially one at this price level, I expect quality. And if a company is going to offer a warranty, I expect that company to take care of their customers. Ariens, you let me down.
In the two and a half months without my splitter, I ran out of firewood and ended up having to spend approximately $600 on firewood to get me through. Thank you Ariens
