Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by EJ Good Kohler engine, good turning radius
This tractor is good for flat lawn cutting and not for a lawn with many trees or the slightest hills or rough spots. The tractor easily gets stuck and you literally have to get off the machine and push it. Performs even worse if the grass is even slightly damp on the smallest little incline. Very frustrating! Positives are a powerful Kohler engine and tight turning radius. In the end I traded it for a JD.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Matthew Bends and Breaks
I have had trouble since the first day. The first one they sent me had a bent hood that would not close and a hole in the gas tank. They took it back and sent me another one, but the frame is bending under normal use, the parking brake does not work, and the oil drain plug broke off in my hand. I was not even forcing it. I regret buying this tractor.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Richard Excellent tractor all around
I purchased my 42" tractor about 3 yrs ago and I just love it. It has more power ( 19.5 hp ) than I need but I'm a guy and guys like power. I used to have an old 1950s style John Deer and I didn't know what I was missing until I first sat on my Ariens. It's a smoother ride and turns shorter. The Briggs motor is more dependable than the old Kohler on the John Deer. The blades for life is another great thing. I'm hooked for life on Ariens products. My lawn never looked so good. Please put me in the contest for the Ariens Hat. I would love nothing better than to mow wearing an Ariens Hat.

I've had this tractor for 2 years, I have just over 1 acre of property. At first I thought it was a great mower, but then I began to realize it has issues. It has a terrible time on the slightest hill - wheels spin out 90% of the time and the alignment is always off. This year and last year I had a problem with it stalling out and each time I lose time and money because I have to have it serviced. I am really frustrated after the money spent that it has this problem over and over. My last tractor was a yard machine and it worked like a charm for 10 years, the main reason we replaced it was to have a larger deck. Very dissappointed in this tractor, wish I could trade it in.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gregory This mower is Easy to use & operate
I just received this today, filled it up with gas & oil and it started right up, no problems. Rides and mows great. It maneuvers easily, even in tight spaces. You just have to remember to place the key in the "Forward & Reverse" position otherwise when putting it in reverse it will stop on you *smile*. This is my second Ariens product over the past 2 yrs and I've had nothing but good things with them. My first was a Snow blower 2 yrs ago and it's worked great from day one, as I'm sure this mower will also. I recommend any Ariens product as they are trouble-free and backed by good workmanship & warranty.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Salvage21 Very reliable machine
This machine has over 150 hours already for one year and has proven to be a very good running and reliable mower. I leveled the deck when I brought it home and it has performed flawlessly ever since. Only one drawback is that if the grass gets high, even with sharpened blades, it leaves strips of unmown grass behind, but this is usually only with 8 or 10 inch or higher areas that have been neglected. If I can keep ahead of it in the spring, I don't notice this issue. I work this mower hard and cover a large area - I am very pleased and would buy another. I grease the towers every mow, have changed the trans fluid once, and sharpen the blades often. I currently run synthetic fluid now that it is broken in.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by FarmerJim Great mower for the price but......
I got this tractor as a replacement to a 1994 Yard Man with a 50" deck that gave great service. This tractor lost it's belt 5 times in the first 6 hrs of operation and then snapped it. In replacing the belt I noticed that a hard right turn put the left drag link in contact with the belt and actually pushes the belt off the engine pulley. #picture attached# I also noticed there are no belt retainers mounted by the pulleys as my other 2 lawn tractors have.
I also have a problem with the wheel height not giving enough deck adjustment, causing scalping on uneven ground. The only height adjustment is 4,5 and 6, with 4 setting on the ground, and 1 through 3 being useless. I was told by Support this is an adjustment but there is no clearance. I notice the 2014 model has the larger wheels that increases deck height. There is a prior review for this issue. Support told me to take the tractor to the dealer, it was out of adjustment. Actually, this chassis is not designed for this large of a deck. I will keep you posted on the progress..
