What a fantastic riding mower. It handled my 2 acre yard without problems. It drove very smooth and was extremely comfortable. The cut was perfect even going as fast as the mower could go. The quality seems great and I could not be happier with this purchase. I even used the deck wash out port. Let me tell you what a nice little feature to have. It cleaned all the grass and everything with ease. I can't say it enough that this is a fantastic mower and I have no complaints at all!!

My 1996 Craftsman riding mower finally died a few weeks ago...the wiring melted! Rather than deal with non-existent parts, my wife got online and ordered this 46" Ariens. The order went smoothly, arrival was timely, too (01 Dec 14). Came wrapped in plastic sheeting in a wooden crate. After uncrating, there really wasn't any assembly required...just grab the manual, READ IT, and go!
My first use was to mulch leaves in the backyard, and it worked well with the standard blades. I've since replaced them with the recommended Mulching Kit (Husqvarna Model # OEM46MK 46 in. Tractor Mulch Kit), which worked much better.
Overall, this seems to be a great deal for the price. 20 hp engine is more than enough, transmission seems strong, steering is tight and has a small radius, it even has headlights for that all-important night mowing!
Now here it is 18 Dec, and I just finished a few days of installing the snow blade kit that was recommended (MTD Model # OEM-190-833 46 in. Snow Blade). There is no way this blade is a direct install for this tractor without modifications to the tractor frame! Having already spent $300+ for this blade and opening the package to see what was in store, it seemed to late to return it...besides, I felt a challenge! The Instructions have a lot of pictures and sparse written clues, so you have to be able to visualize how the install will go. I'm a designer/graphic artist with over 30 years of architectural/industrial design under my belt, and I had difficulty understanding the drawings. If you do attempt this, note you will have to have access to a heavy-duty drill and a 9/16" or 1/2" bit to drill through the frame. I also had to fabricate/install a little diamond plate bracket to connect the mower to the plow mounting bracket to stiffen things up. The plan now is to review all I learned in this process and develop a solution that I'll send to Home Depot & MTD. I believe the addition of two flat plates that can be bolted to the side of the tractor frame will solve the issue. I'll report back later as things develop.

This is a great riding mower, especially for this price. Plenty of power. More power would just burn more fuel and I can't imagine anyone needing more than the 20hp provided.
I love the V-Twin. It's smoother and quieter than the single cylinders and should last longer as well.
Mine came crated as we had it delivered. The mower was completely assembled and well packaged. No dents, dings or scratches. Just add fuel and go for it!
We did have to adjust the deck. Front to back height was fine but one side was lower than the other. Not a big deal.
Love the adjustable seat. My dad has stiff knees so getting on and off with the old riding mower was difficult for him. But not only does this Ariens not have a tunnel or center hump, but the seat easily slides forward and back. This allow my dad to slide the seat all the way back when he's finished mowing, giving him much more room to get off and then back on next time. Then he simply slides the seat forward to where he wants it.
Sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference.
Easy to use, comfortable, does a great job of mowing (You really want 4 anti-scalping wheels instead of the 2 you usually get with some mowers).

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Scubadude Good out of Box so far.
Delivery by Home Depot via the Freight company was excellant . The only caution as I was out of town that date delivered varies by up to 4 days from estimate as it goes from main freight delivery to local freight company, as I am way out in the boonies.
Mower was ready to go out of the box, however read manual first as its not real straight forward on how to operate, its only 2nd riding mower I used so a little learning curve. Once you start and mow the first time its real easy. Steel gauges on sheet metal seem thin but so does sheet metal on my F150 compared to older Trucks. Mower seems to work fine now but I dont really consider a fair review until I get at least 5 years out of it. Only real reasons for "good" ratings are that I dont have real referance of another mower. The wash feature is real nice to clean blades. Mower seems to work well so far on scrubby dry overgrown Arizona grass and lots of tough weeds as I was using it to clear overgrown property.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ratdog Good solid tractor
I purchased this tractor a year ago and have used it throughout the seasons. I bought the Ariens for a couple of reasons. One, it had the B&S twin cylinder engine. Two, it has an all metal hood (not plastic). Three, it was hydromatic and it had the reverse mowing switch. A lot of tractors today don't! I use it to mow the tight areas around my orchard, ditches, trees and bushes where my big tractor and mower cant get into. It is also used to pull a yard sweeper, haul water to my wife's 9 flower gardens, firewood and other projects. It has been very dependable and by doing a little preventive maint. on it, it should last a long time. It cuts the grass very well and the blades seem to hold up as well. One minor problem with this mower is the deck height control arm. It likes to jump out of its slot if a bump is hit. I mow at the same height all the time, so two pieces of wood and a bolt in the adjustment slot keeps it from going lower and scalping my lawn. Overall a very good tractor at a good price (yes, Home Depot may negotiate that with you).

I purchased this tractor to mow 1.5 acre yard. So far it is extremely quiet and does a great job. The 20HP Briggs twin cylinder engine is great. I looked at Cub Cadets also and spoke to 3 friends that had them and all had problems and would not buy them again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ric Well made tractor with many improvement,
Looked at a lot of tractors. Getting old and need something that's comfortable. Has an automatic trans that requires you to hold the right front foot petle down. The angle is right for my foot. Competitors had a bad angle. These tractor are made here. No China plants. The Ariens is a cousin to the Husquavarna for a little less money. There are a lot of improvements on these tractors over my 80s Cub. Bigger deck 46 vs 38. It really saves time on my empty lot across the street. It's quiet compared to the Cub. Had a 20 hp Craftsman that sucked gas! The Ariens is good on gas. Another gripe are small gas tanks on my Cub and the Mrs' Craftsman. They made the Ariens bigger. Does a nice job mowing. My yards look great! We had an early winter and it did not want to go away. Used it with my garden card to get rid of the leaves. There were a lot this year! The salesmen was good at Home Depot. They made it easy to buy it. Got a card on line advertising 6 month no interest. Was happy to see its 12 months on the bill. It's easy to pay. At the store! Recommended! Picture shows its ready to do battle in the yard!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Yonah My neighbors hate me now
Delivered on time without a scratch by a helpful delivery team. Plugged in the battery, filled her with gas, and she fired right. up. It does everything as advertised. I am oh so glad I spent a little more and got the twin. It's obviously stronger, but the vibration is not nearly as great as some singles I've used., and its not quite as noisy.
For my hilly yard the tires are not ideal as they slip in the slightest moisture going uphill. Sooo, I mow when its dry. Other than that surmountable gripe, it is AWESOME!! My neighbors are "Orange" with envy as they scuffle back to their single cylinder, manual transmission dinosaurs.
Thanks as well to Mr. Bernie Marcus, and Mr. Arthur Blanke for affording disabled vets a discount in their stores.. (among their many other philanthropic endeavors.)
