Customer Questions & Answers

Does this snowblower have a "pull start" ? If power is out, how do you start it?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, it also has a pull start. Comes in handy when you're 250 feet away from a power source. Besides, most of us use the pull start all the time since the engine will start on the first or second pull.

Is the height of the handlebars adjustable to the height of operator?

Asked by: bajashooter1
I checked mine to be sure, but there is no adjustment for the handlebars. They are bolted in a fixed position.

Ariens - Snow blower - parts issues

I have decided on buying a 24" Ariens snow blower. Many of my friends say that this is exclusive model for home depot and in 2 to 3 years, home depot will not have parts for these snow blowers. Is it true?
Asked by: Anonymous
Not an exclusive, and through a service dealer parts are available. Benefits of buying American

Compact 24 in. Two-Stage Electric Start Gas Snow Blower-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 281.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Arien's 24in Snowthrower with Briggs motor I love this machine, has to be one of the best purchases i have ever made. I finally got my chance to use my snow thrower today. It worked flawlessly we got 5 or 6 inches of heavy wet snow and i have to say it really threw the snow 25ft. all my neighbors have snow throwers, form MTD, Toro. just to name a few and they all stopped by my driveway to see what kind of machine i bought because they could see from their drives how far i was throwing snow. I was able to throw snow up over an 8ft privacy fence no problem. and it started really easy. with one pull. Go ahead and buy it you won't be sorry. and its all made in USA.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very good not great Purchased this to replace my 40year old ariens which still runs great. I scoffed at these snow blowers when they first appeared, because they looked so cheap next to my old ariens. However this unit is so much lighter than my old unit which is a big bonus as I get older. Somethings I don't like about this unit, auger is now belt driven which can slip as the belt ages, also since there are now two belts to change, the procedure to change them is way more complicated. The chute is smaller which may clog easier. Also they should really call this 2 speed as speeds 1 thru 4 are useless. But over all seems well built and tackles heavy snow well

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It blows... snow! Had an older 1 cycle snow blower with the rubber auger. It decided to destroy itself today while I was trying to clear my driveway. It was made of plastic and rubber with a metal handle. I told myself that I needed a reliable snow blower that will last for a long time. Decided on the Ariens 24" model. Got really good reviews and seemed like a good choice. Went in to Home Depot. As usual, the salesmen was very knowledgeable and listened to my needs. I decided on spending a little more money for a few reasons. It was really only 300 more or so, which is not bad for something I should have for years and years Pros 1. This thing is a beast. It is solid metal and does not appear to have a cheap part on it. Makes is heavier but there is no cheaply made feeling whatsoever with this bad boy 2. Has 2 stages, so not only does it suck, it blows! (That is a good thing). Gives you more distance, I think it says 40 ft, which is really cool. I was using this in a heavy wind today so I dont think I got that much. But it definitely was more than powerful to get snow in the spot you want! 3. It is power driven, no more pushing a snow blower through the deep snow storms or wet snow. Which usually ended up being more work than just shoveling the walk in the first place! This thing walks itself! Has pins in the tires to remove this feature and add more control for tighter turns. 4. Has multiple speeds which I didn’t really think would be all that cool. But I used it today in 8 inches of snow. Not a huge storm but decent. Half of my driveway had another 4-6 inches of snow drift. On the first half I could go much faster and the quicker speed was nice. On the deeper side I wanted to slow down just a little to ensure it got everything on the first pass. Really nice feature. Even has 2 reverse speeds which I could see some people using cause it is kind of heavy to pull backwards on hills or for users that do not have the strength to do so. 5. The handle to rotate the chute was right up top near my hands. I didn’t realize how much of a pain it was to bend down by the engine to turn the chute. It also is described as a "Quick Turn" chute. After using it, wow that is a nice feature. It basically turns it 3 times faster for each rotation (Rough estimate) which is great 6. No more mixing oil!!!! How many times have you gone out with your old blower and had to drive over the powder snow to go mix some gas... No more, never again. This was a nice plus for me. Still have to keep the oil filled, but that is easy. 7. Handles packed down and deeper snow 10x better than my old blower. I had to drive over part of my driveway to go get this thing. My old blower would have went over the top of it. This thing went under the packed snow and you would never know i drove over it. Even took out ice from 3 storms ago. 8. It has a headlamp. I am putting this under Pros because it just sounds cool to have a light on your snow blower! 9. Free 3 year waranty I have only used it once so I am sure i will come up with more benefits. But for now, that is pretty good! Observations I wanted to note (Not really cons) 1. It is pretty heavy. Not a portable snow blower or a 1 man load it in the back of your truck type blower. I actually like this because it was heavy enough to get ice or anything off the driveway. Just a thought, not a con really. 2. You can’t make super tight corners at first. I think you can unlock the pins in the wheel to have more control but then you have to push the blower. So this is kind of cool actually. The salesman explained it to me that way. It is definitely larger than my old blower, so I think the more I use it the more I will get used to it. 3. My old blower had the rubber auger that really wiped the driveway clean. This uses more of a metal scraper that goes along the driveway. I would say it doesn’t get as close as the older blower, but it handled packed down snow and ice 10x better. Still does a great job, but just a heads up it doesn’t work exactly the same as the smaller blowers with rubber augers. 4. Space for storage. Just takes up a little more room is all. No bigge, but worth mentioning. Hope my review helps! Got a little long but I would rather read a review like this when I am dropping this kind of money than the “Works great” review. Is it sad I am now at work and hoping another storm is coming soon so I can use my new toy again? :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This is my first snow blower, although I have used one before. I live in NE Ohio, and we just got a large lake effect snowstorm, woke up to 24inches of snow. At the road, due to plowing, drifts were almost up to 3 ft of packed/icy snow. It handled it with no problem. The augers steadily cut into these heavy packed drifts, and the impeller easily threw the snow 20-30 ft. It is very simple to use, from what I've heard, a lot of other brands struggle with the chute mechanism. It is very easy to control the chute- even w/o stopping, and you can put the snow exactly where you want it. I find the ability to lock and/unlock the wheels to be very nice, so you have the power/control when you need it, and the extra maneuverability when you don't. It was about 10 degrees this morning- starts with 1 pull- I haven't even used the electric start yet. I've only used it a couple times, but since it handled 24 inches of snow- I have no doubt it will be able to easily handle all future storms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small but mighty I bought this snowblower last Dec after my old one of 15 yrs gave up the ghost. So glad I bought this instead of repairing old faithful. It is a thing of beauty in nice fluffy snow, but exceeded all expectations in heavy wet snow. We had 15 cm of wet snow mixed with rain & slush so bad that the municipal snowplows had a misery of a time & left chunky wet snow a foot & a half deep & 20 feet back from the road. This small, light, easy to move machine just slowly ate through all the mess (my 100' drive as well as the snowplow crud). My drive looks like it was plowed, it is so well cleaned. Excellent value for the money. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great in Wet Snow!!! I bought this back in September 2011. I trucked it home myself with a $20 rental and it was no problem. Assembly was fast and easy. I added gas and it started on the first pull, did not even need the electric start. I used in for 5 inches of very wet and slushy snow at the end of October and it went through with no problem. I just used it on another 5 inches of average type of snow and and it was throwing it with no problem. I have a double driveway that is about 65 feet long and about 125 feet of side walk. I also used it to blow snow from a large section of grass in the back yard for my small dog. It blazed through everything without a problem. I also have to comment on the adjustable chute. Not only is the turning side to side great, but the remote control for the top of the chute was wonderful!! It was kind of windy, so in some directions, I had to adjust the chute very low, so that the snow would not blow back in my face and other directions, adjust it high again; it was fast and easy!! This is the best snow blower I have ever had!! I highly recommend it!!!! FYI Be sure to engage the second wheel - once done, it will never slip!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ariens Compact 24 Model #920014 Bought this blower online this summer from Homdepot. Unit was shipped to local dealer assembeled and delivered to my house for free with gas & oil and demo. Set the wheels pins for dual traction! Had our first storm of 2+Ft ate snow very well throwing it 30FT or so. Bogged down at times but never stalled. Starts right up when cold one or two pulls, did have gas leaking out of carb when turned off 4 drops or so. Called dealer he said some carbs had to be replaced on briggs engine that where leaking gas. Just have to shut gas valve off when done till I get this checked out, said he might have to replace carb. Thats why I bought this unit, 3 yrs parts & Labor, Ariens brand name, Briggs engine and knowledgeable service Reps. This is the real deal!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ariens 24 inch snow blower last year we had a lot of snow in sw ontario, after years of shovelling I caved on feb 2 2011 and purchased the 24 inch Ariens snow blower,in my research, the last question, what snow blower does your store use?, and Jeff at london fanshawe pointed to a 3yr old ariens 24in and said, we haven't been able to kill it yet, and he was right, I'm only limited by how fast I can run behind this thing, and even in really heavy snow, just being careful where all the snow is going! Snow blowing has turned from a chore, to now a lot of fun. On our last heavy 30cm snowfall I did 4 of my neighbours laneways.I had some "Tim the Toolman Taylor" moments while now playing outside, opps WORKING outside, yeah right.P.S., the last reason for purchasing was that my father has a 25yr old 24inch Ariens that still also starts on the first pull. I believe the company shareholders haven't gutted out the good parts of this machine for the sake of quarterly profit targets, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ARIENS.
