I have been waiting for this particular model since middle of Nov. I called and I was told that stock is expected to be available in the first week of Dec. I have called a few times since then and was told the same story. I patiently waited until the first week of December (today) and called again...only to find out that stock availability is delayed by another TWO weeks. I live in MN and can't wait any longer. I have a bunch of HD gift cards to burn and would like to spend my money at HD than some local Ariens dealer. Can someone from HD / Ariens give an authoritative answer on when it is TRUELY expected to be in stock? HD sales associate online tried to sell me a 20% off on a 3 stage Cub Cadet instead....but I trust and believe in Ariens. However, snow is not going to wait either....The 24" is the only model that will work for my garage so 28" model is not an option. When WILL Ariens have it in stock for HD?

My thoughts exactly. Even the sales guy could not figure that out. I wanted him to assemble it and I was going to pick it up. But it was internet only and since HD is not an authorized dealer, they had an Autorized Dealer deliver, assemble it all gassed up and went through the whole machine. Frank from Suffolk Power Equipment from Port Jeff was great. So to me that was a plus.

A rough rule of thumb for figuring HP from cc's is; 33cc=1 HP.
This machine has 254cc. So, divide 254cc by
33cc and you get ABOUT 7.5. 7.5 HP more or less.

Deluxe 24 in. 2-Stage Electric Start Gas Snow Blower with Auto-Turn Steering is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 507.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Machine! I have used many a snow blower in my days but used this for the first time in upstate NY in 10" of wet heave snow. Had to use the slowest speed but it had no issues on a 100 foot long driveway. It throws snow about 40 feet out so no worries about snow banks. Hand warmers worked fantastic. Now on the con side- headlight is marginal and it has a small gas tank. Had to refill once. It did get clogged once but that is not unusual with a wet heavy. Auto turn makes it very easy to handle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not sure I would go for this brand again. It has typically been difficult to start, even when plugged in. Usually takes about 15 minutes or more to get started no matter the choking, or the pressing of the squirter. Seems like the fuel lines are inferior in this brand, as the fuel seems to have problems reaching the engine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built, very durable and extremely reliable. This was my first snowblower purchase. After reading countless reviews regarding the features and dependability I deemed necessary in a snowblower, I determined the Ariens 24" Deluxe would be the perfect machine. It started right up and functioned perfectly in the midst of our first 12" snow storm. I quickly learned how to maneuver the snowblower to effectively clear out my driveway and sidewalk. I had such a great time with this, my first snowblower, I ran out of gas twice because I cleared out my neighbors sidewalks and driveways. I told my wife I wanted to "break it in." I am most satisfied with this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awkward handling You can release the right side auger handle with left hand wheel control engaged and the augers will stay engaged. It is then awkward to reach with right hand across to adjust chute direction on the left side. It also does not slide very well on packed snow. The front tends to grab the snow and with the easy steering it wants to wander left or right. Very hard to manoeuvre.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good machine It blows really good, it is an easy starter with the Briggs and Stratton engine with adequate power. One draw back is the snow collects on the choke and key switch then freezes for start up next time, so I turn the key back to on and put the choke on when I shut it off. The hand warmers are a good addition to have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicest snowblower I've owned This is my first Ariens and I am happy with the purchase. I bought it last Fall and used it several times over the winter. We didn't get many snowstorms but enough for me to form an opinion of this rig. It's smoother and a little quieter than the others I've owned over the last 20 years (MTD, Craftsman, Troy-built). It's also easy to turn. It doesn't have a fancy joystick for rotating the discharge chute, but I actually much prefer the Ariens mid-rod crank over the joystick on the Cub Cadet and some others I tried. The chute elevation control is on the "dash" and works well - that is a big plus for me over my old snowblowers, which all had to be adjusted manually. The automatic wheel clutches work well when turning. One thing I especially appreciate is the robust throwing distance, which helps me when clearing the wide parking area near my house. I haven't had the Ariens long enough to be sure about reliability, but have had no problems so far, and it seems solid and well-designed. I have a steep, long driveway and having a good snowblower is important to me. So far I feel I made a good choice with the Ariens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Deluxe 24 comparison with my 10 year old Classic 24 I had my 10 year old Ariens Classic 24's gearbox stripped out and brought it in to replace the gearbox which would be about 3 weeks before I would get it back. Because we were getting a lot of snow I decided to buy the Deluxe 24 so I wouldn't get behind. I was able immediately to tell the differences between the two. The 3 benefits to the Deluxe was it was quieter, and threw the snow a little farther and you could adjust the throw from the panel. The disadvantages are my arms were way more tired because of the weight shifted to the front which made it feel much more heavy. I don't like the auto steer at all which made it more difficult to keep going straight when it would catch on something. I only need positraction when I'm clearing piles of snow that slid off the metal roof. I wish the Deluxe would allow to disengage the positraction for the 90% of the time I didn't need it. My Classic had the newer heavier duty gear box installed and after 2.5 hours or so my arms were not nearly as tired as with the Deluxe. Also I had to refill the gas tank in order to finish the job where the Classic had gas left over after I was finished. The main negative on my Classic is the Tecumseh is pretty loud. Lastly, I would have liked if the newer Deluxe's throwing angle was more than 180 degrees like my Classic to throw the snow a little behind me when I needed to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Maine! Initially wanted the Compact 24, but decided to go with the Deluxe model for the more powerful motor. Though it cost a little more and is a bit heavy for my wife (mid 50's) to handle easily, the upside is that it chews through deep snow (15" plus) and the big crusty pile at the end of the driveway without missing a beat. It really can throw 40 feet! So far, it's everything I'd hoped for. Starts on the first pull even in sub-zero temps. It was delivered to my house in a box - took about an hour to assemble. A relatively easy job for a handy person.
