This is the first snow blower I ever owned. Purchased Nov 2015. I live in Boston, unlike last year's winter, we had possibly the mildest winter in a long while this year. So I only got to use it maybe 7-8 times whole winter. If I am given the second chance, I'd opt out for model with the chute control level and skip the electric start. Here is why. I keep the blower in my garage, it is certainly a few degrees warmer than outside and pull start hasn't failed me once. It is very easy to use and I never needed to use the electric start. However, I'd suggest the remote chute control (can be added later on as an accessory) for homes with small drive ways. My drive is about 20'x35x, one side with high wall. To keep blowing snow to same direction, I found myself changing the direction of chute every 15-20 seconds. For that reason, it would be very nice to have the chute control, which I will probably add next winter. Let's talk about the performance. As I said we didn't have a harsh winter this year but this works perfect with fluffy snow, so-so with slush, but still very nice. Overall, I would recommend this blower someone in NorthEast and small drive way.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Skyland Beware - Ariens has poor customer service.
It was fabricated at the factory with the inside ring upside down. Installing the chute aligned with the holes in this configuration had the chute facing the operator.
My son had to remove the outside housing, disengage a spring, remove the inside ring turn it around 360 degrees, then re-engage the spring, screw the housing back in place in order to properly install the chute.
I contacted Ariens Warranty and they sent me a rubber mat as a consolation. .... really. I then contacted their customer service and sent along all the pictures showing the defect in manufacturing and what had to be done to correct the problem. This unit was clearly a second, and should have been discounted as such.
He bluntly told me that because I bought it online I had to expect to assemble the unit myself. OK .. YES minimal installation of the chute to the housing and raise the handlebars that is expected for an online purchase, NOT what I had to do. See following pictures....

We bought this snow blower after reading the reviews for the upcoming 2016 Snowzilla. With expectations of going out a few times with this blower which didn't pan out because of the windy conditions and the point being moot, we waited until this storm was over. A total of 32 inches and we were thinking, no way! After going into the piles and pulling back a few times, this machine showed us it could do the job. Of course this was a light, fluffy snow. Very impressed! Glad we bought this snow blower. Cut the time more than in half.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by davidspro Started right up, but Auger will not engage, very disappointed and returning tomorrow.
Very excited to purchase this machine right before our first major snow storm in late January, 2016. Spent some time reading manual and then went to work. The electric ignition worked perfectly, starting the unit right up, BUT, the auger will not engage. I noticed the ignition key was a bit bent when i tried to insert it, so I think Home Depot may have resold a defective unit to me. Time to hire a plow for $35 and tomorrow pocket the remainder of my $560 refund (plow plus 2 year warranty).

Although it has been a light winter thus far in Pittsburgh, PA, I have used my Ariens Snow Blower a few times. It was very easy to assemble. No problem in starting up as this unit as it has an electric starter which is a great feature. The paddles clean right down to my concrete driveway although some snow will blow back under the machine. I was able to blow light powdery snow 25 feet or more. It even cleared the end of my driveway where the snow plow piled up the snow. It really pulls you along especially going down hill on my sloped driveway. It feels a bit heavy going in the up hill direction but you can still feel the paddles helping to move you along. The fit and finish on the plastic cover is some what disappointing especially for an American made product but this does not detract from the overall performance.

finally had a chance to use my new purchase on 3 inches of light snow. i was impressed with the power of the machine. i cannot see to many snowstorms this blower will not be able to handle. it takes a little practice to get comfortable with it as it really wants to take off. after only one use the only negative i have found is , it is hard to get a clean sweep because of the curved paddles. i hope to figure this out with future use. i would absolutely recommend over a toro as this company seems to stand behind their product in a much stronger way.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by AirForceTiger Great snowblower!
Snowblower arrived early and in great shape. Has performed very well during two large snowfalls. One was approximately 12" and was handled with no issues. Only concern I have is how long will the snowblower last. There's a lot of plastic including the augers and overall casing. More than the pictures or descriptions indicate. But it is certainly performing great at the moment.

The snow blower was easy to assemble but directions and its illustrations for operating should be simplified and illustrations should be more clear.
