We are frequently asked where the engines used on Ariens and Gravely equipment are manufactured. Because engines are globally sourced from the best manufactures, there is no simple answer to this question but here are some general guidelines:
Larger engines, used on both commercial and consumer products are primarily manufactured in the United States by companies like Kohler, Kawasaki, Subaru and Briggs and Stratton. Some of our larger commercial engines are built in Japan by Kubota and Daihatsu.
All small engines (less than 10hp or so) are manufactured in China. This includes engines built by Kohler, Subaru, and Briggs and Stratton as well as the Ariens AX and AC engines. Currently in the world market, all of the highest quality engines in this smaller category are made in China.

Answer:
The wheels have self lubricating bushings in them, not ball bearings. This holds up better in high debris conditions like mowing.

Hi, I'm just wondering if this mower is also designed to be used without the bag, as I intend to leave the clippings on the lawn.

Also, with 90 lbs. weight (per specification), is it easy enough to push and move around small / tight corner? Thanks in advance for you help....

Answer:
Yes, you may use this machine as a bagging unit, mulching unit (with mulch plug installed), or side discharge. With this weight, the unit is easily pushed around tight corners. You're very welcome!

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 19 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality Mower I have a smaller lawn and used another brand's mulching mower for about ten years. The engine was starting to go on it, so I was in the market for a new mower. After using this mower about four times, it has been terrific. You can mulch, bag, or use the side discharge. Starts great every time and mulches better than my last mower. It's a little heavier to push, but feels extremely durable and well built. The mowing height is very easy to adjust with a single lever, and it also includes a rinse nozzle that you can use to clean it out after mowing. Overall, a terrific mower that seems like it will last for a long time. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Reviews were helpful I bought this mower mainly because of the reviews on it. Some stated it was too heavy but I purchased to get exercise and get off my rider. It will give you a bit of a work out but it operates great. The bagging system is so easy to use. To switch between bagging, mulching and side discharge is simple and fast. I have had for a month, mowed the yard three times and although not much use it starts with 1-2 pulls every time. Solid built and I don't doubt it will give me years of reliable use. The box was in terrible condition when I picked it up at the store so I inspected it before I left and no damage to mower noted. May 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by always relieable I bought my first Ariens second hand 21 yrs ago. I was so impressed with the quality and reliability that it was hard to look at other brands. I did look at other brands but I have to say Ariens was my choice again. Set the handle, set the bag, put in the gas and she started on the first pull. i was smiling from ear to ear. I highly recommend. March 13, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Electric Start Model # 911179. The electric start rarely works. There is not enough torque in the starter. It starts fine with the pull start, but the electric start doesn't work when the mower is cold and rarely works when the mower is hot. It has been this way since I purchased it 2 years ago, so it's not the battery. The mower has to be adjusted to a least 4.0 in height or a slight uneven part of the lawn will cause the height adjuster to change. May 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ariens 911173 model lawn mower purchase Ordered online, got here in 7 days, went to store to pick up, got it home, took out of box, put the handle upright and put gas in it and pulled the cord and it started on first pull. Made the height adjustment and mowed. Price was cheaper at Home Depot than local power equipment dealer. My last mower was an Ariens that I have had for 24 years, so I was sold on quality of the product name. I hope this one lasts that long. July 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ariens Mower Best mower I have ever owned. Have used it with bag and mulch. July 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Mower!!!! I'm female, and I love this mower. It came assembled. All I had to do was pull the starter cord one time,. It ran like a charm. The self propelled system was better than any other mower I have ever used, it could actually pull me along if I let it. I adjusted the cutting height and couldn't believe how easy it was. And the real test was mowing over tons and tons of leaves from the 30 trees in the yard with branch bits mixed in. The Razor flew through them easily and did a great job mulching. I am super happy with the Razor. I'll update my review after a couple months, once grass begins to grow. February 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ariens Razor Tired of cheap $200 mowers that don't make it 5 years due to thin decks and wheel assemblies that don't last. Decided to spend more and get a more substantial mower. This thing is solid...Deeper deck, very solid wheel assemblies, cleanout port, height adjusters that won't break (it's actually has one lever that lowers all 4 wheels at once). I like the engine, although I am not familiar with it. It is Ariens branded instead of Briggs. I believe it is the same engine used by Toro and Cub Cadet. The engine actually seems to be a little more substantial than previous Briggs, even though I had great luck with the Briggs. It doesn't bog down and has exceptional vacuum. The only negative might be that it weighs a little more than the typical mower. But, it is also much more solid. You get what you pay for and this thing is rock solid. I expect 15 years out of this one. I would compare it side to side with a Honda or Toro (although this is not self propelled since my lawn is smaller, it would not be an apples to apples comparison). Very happy with purchase. April 12, 2015
