While researching the mulch kit, I read reviews saying its not perfect, so I new I could have problems. Fairly easy to install but paying an additional $23 for the foam block kit is pretty ridiculous. Should have came with the kit. As everyone mentioned it leaves a trail on the right side. I thought about it a little, and reinstalled the baffle. It helped out tremendously during the straight sections but still left trails on the turns. I'm not sure why they tell you to take it off, but I'm leaving mine on. Wish I could find real mulch blades too.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0Â by sds454 Does an adequate job
As with any mulching system, it's not perfect. But is does a better job than the mulching kit of my previous riding mower. It does leave a trial of grass clippings along the right side of the mower if you wait too long between mowing or if you are mowing too fast. That's a simple fix; mow at a reduced speed and don't let the grass grow more than 1/2 to 1 inch taller between mowings. Installation was straight forward. As others have noted, getting the blades loose is difficult, but you can install the kit without removing the blades; I did. All of the hardware included in the kit fit perfectly. The included foam does the job of keeping the mowed grass under the mowing deck. Removing any grass caked-up on the underside of the mower deck makes the job sooo much easier. No complaints so far.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0Â by Jeff Pay attention to Model Year when ordering!
I just purchased the Ariens Zoom 42 (915159) and this mulching kit. I spent several hours trying to figure out why it would not line up right. I figured I had to be doing something wrong. I finally gave up and starting researching online and found out that there was a design change in 2012. If you have a 2012 with serial number 10,000 or higher this kit will not fit! And to add to it Home Depot does not yet have the new one and it is on backorder the other places I have found it so I can't review how the correct one works either! So if you are ordering for an older Zoom you should be ok but check your model year and serial number first!

I used car ramps to get the front of the mower off the ground. Instructions were VERY easy to follow. I found that the clearance problem on my mower had to do with old dried up grass under the deck. The instructions don't tell you to make sure you scrape this out. After scraping the dried grass out it lined up like a charm and fit like a glove. Really works great and does not require you to buy "mulching blades." You can use the standard blades with this kit!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0Â by jlk250 Not as good as the mower itself
Like others mentioned, the blades are torqued on very tightly and it is possible to get this mulching kit in without taking the blades off. It's a little tricky but can be done. The kit is overpriced for what you get and it doesn't mulch grass very well. I get clumps every time and it doesn't seem to mulch any better than without the mulching kit. Previous mower (Murray cheapo) was a junky mower but it actually mulched well. On the positive side, I mostly like a mulcher for getting leaves in the fall and this Ariens mulcher does work quite well for that and the transaction with Home Depot was flawless.
