Answer:
The width of the landing platform at the connection to the deck for the 63" diameter model is 42". We recommend at least 2" greater opening to avoid a pinch-point of the handrail at the top landing.

From our building inspector: "One item I could not find was the head clearance required by the code. Perhaps you could inquire of them to verify the minimum clearance of 6ft.-6in."

Does it meet that - and these - specifications? thanks!

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Staircase Kit I love the CD instructions that come with it. With the snow amounts we get in the Winter I wish I would have gone with something that lest the snow fall through. I also am worried about the traction with ice! August 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice looking and relatively easy to install spiral stairs I installed these stairs from a deck to a paver patio just over 10' below. The installation went well and the stairs look very nice. I would certainly recommend them to others. Why not 5 stars? The instructions are OK... but could have been much better. For example, they didn't deal with how to do the install to pavers (pour a concrete pad beneath the pavers and adjust the spacers appropriately). There were also some minor steps left off the instructions. That said, one CAN figure it out and the ARKE rep was EXTREMELY helpful and responsive in answering questions. One thing that requires some "invention" is how you choose to tie the upper part of the stairs into whatever railing you have up there. Again, one can figure this out, but the kit is of minimal help here. A minor comment is that I would have liked to see the stair treads have a bit better traction. You can fix this with some tread tape though. Once in the stairs look great. They are sturdy but not "rock solid". I don't view this as a problem - I'm just setting expectations. I weigh over 200lbs and I feel a little flex in the stairs when using them. April 27, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Need to be able to order extra parts or additional engineering needed. Directions are in metric, with incorrect inches conversion. No way to purchase parts from the company and sending the stairs back would be problematic. Ex: My stairs needed to be built 93" high, which is too short for two internal poles plus the threaded rod, but too tall for one pole plus the threaded rod. I had to search 10 places over two Saturday's to find additional 20 mm threaded bolt and connecting sleave. As a result I also needed an internal insert to accompdate the threaded pipe. Did Arke have any parts to order?, no. So I had to glue in a PVC bushing (2"x1/2") with epoxy glue (PVC cement won't work I tried it). All in all a nice stairs. Their engineers need to; make the threaded rod longer, a way to connect two threaded rods or one of the structure poles shorter with the longer threaded rod. July 10, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by DVD didn't work I wrote the review above and forgot to mention that the DVD they sent didn't work either so I had to take a laptop with me to the job site to see the online video. July 11, 2012
