Product Overview

The space-saving design of the Karina model makes it the ideal staircase to use in replacement of the traditional pull-down attic stairs when converting an attic into a loft, office, or bedroom. It is available in 3 colors - black, white, and grey - powder-coat finish - ready to install. The standard Karina staircase kit is adjustable in height from a range of 6 ft. 10 1/4 in. to 9 ft. 3 in. and with two additional risers (right footed), can be extended to a maximum height of 10 ft. 9 1/4 in. The Karina comes with a handrail for one side. A second-side handrail is available as an optional accessory if needed. The Karina stair treads are manufactured from European beech wood, finished with a light natural stain and clear coat protective sealer. An alternating tread design (right-step/left-step) allows for installation in very limited spaces. This kit can be installed in 4 different configurations. To complete your project, a balcony rail kit is available. Riser bars are available in a set of 20 to close off the back of the treads. Each Karina staircase kit is shipped complete with detailed assembly instructions and a DVD to assist in your installation.

Answer:
The KARINA staircase kit is complete with a handrail for one side and all the mounting hardware. There is an optional 2nd side handrail kit available if your installation requires a handrail on both sides. Most installation of this model are against a fixed wall which is the reason there is only one side handrail included in the standard kit.

Answer:
The opening in the ceiling should be at least 26" wide to avoid a pinch point of the handrail against the opening. The running length of the opening should be at least at least 58" to allow for 6' 6" of headroom clearance when walking up and/or down the staircase.

Can I get help finding drill bit to use before inserting C39? I am not sure of the size of drill bit on the manual and the guy at Home Depot could not find it.

Answer:
The diameter of the C39 expansion anchor is 9/16" and the depth/length is 5 7/8". You should drill the hole slightly smaller than the diameter of the expansion anchor to ensure a secure fit when installed.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect solution for limited space This is a well made, very handsome stair system. Be mindful of the fact that it will take some considerable time, manipulation and assembly skills to put together, especially if you do a curved stair system like I did. Video is very helpful to watch, written directions leave a little to be desired. Definitely not a 1 person project, Be careful with railing template for drilling alignment along outside stair edge (hole placement needs to be straight and equidistant to edge at exact depth to fit snug), and if you are curving your stairs, be prepared to improvise a bit and recalculate your rail heights along curve. Take time to get organized and mass assembly minded, there are many nuts, bolts, washers and set screws to deal with and between 5 to 9 holes to drill per stair. Connecting the "steel spine" of the stair and establishing your riser heights is not difficult but that portion of assembly is somewhat awkward and unwieldy ... but very possible with 2 strong folks. Patience + diligence = great results! July 22, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall product quality is good, pleased with purchase. The stairs are attractive and sturdy. They take up min. amount of space and are quite functional. My wife and I did a lot of research to find something that would satisfy the need to access our loft while maintaining a small foot print in our living room. The Karina stair kit fills this need. Only bad commit is the instructions are terrible. U Tube video of other customers installations helped greatly. July 10, 2012
