The space-saving design of the Karina model makes it the ideal staircase to use in replacement of the traditional pull-down attic stairs when converting an attic into a loft, office, or bedroom. It is available in 3 colors - black, white, and grey – powder-coat finish - ready to install. The standard Karina staircase kit is adjustable in height from a range of 6 ft. 10 1/4 in. to 9 ft. 3 in. and with two additional risers (right footed), can be extended to a maximum height of 10 ft. 9 1/2 in. The Karina comes with a handrail for one side. A second-side handrail is available as an optional accessory if needed. The Karina stair treads are manufactured from European beech wood, finished with a light natural stain and clear coat protective sealer. An alternating tread design (right-step/left-step) allows for installation in very limited spaces. This kit can be installed in 4 different configurations. To complete your project, a balcony rail kit is available. Riser bars are available in a set of 20 to close off the back of the treads. Each Karina staircase kit is shipped complete with detailed assembly instructions and a DVD to assist in your installation.

Answer:
We do not recommend the Karina for exterior installations as the hardware is not marine grade stainless steel and will rust in the weather. Further, the treads have a very light polyurethane protective coating and that is not designed to withstand the weather elements for an exterior installation.

I have a loft that I need a compact stair for. The bottom of the joist is at 84" and the top, floor level of the joist/loft is 98". If we install this stair straight what will the length of the run or depth be along the ground floor?

Also I notice you make a KYA and Fokus stair. I like the look of the railing systems more. Where can I see and buy these in the USA?

please advise.

Answer:
For the installation of the KARINA model to the height noted a 98", in a straight-line installation the run will be approximately 55"-56". The KYA and FOKUS models are available in the European market and are not a standard stock model available in the US market.

Answer:
The standard kit with 11 treads is adjustable in height from 7 ft. 5 3/4 in. to 9 ft. 3 in. The footprint, if installed straight, is approx. 5 ft. 1 in. by 2 ft. The minimum opening required is 4 ft. 7 in. by up to 3 ft. 3 in. (depending on the layout of the stair). Up to 2 additional risers can be purchased separately to reach a height of max. 10 ft. 9 1/2 in.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Directions for assembly I purchased this unit for a unique corner of my home and after many hours of assembly it looks great however I will offer a few words of caution. First the instructional video shows one person lifting this unit to attach it to the wall and quite frankly I don't know how he does it because it weighs quite a bit and thats before you bolt on the stairs or the railings. Next I strongly recomend that you DO NOT pre drill the holes for the railing hardware to the steps as shown in the video. All of the instructions fail to tell you that depending on what configuration you twist the staircase in determines how the railings are placed. The printed instructions show two railing supports being fastened to each of the wide portions of every other step and that only works if you are installing this unit in a straight line only. If you twist the unit to fit your needs the railiings will attach quite differently. My recomendation is to erect the entire unit first and then map out the railings last before pre drilling holes in the steps otherwise you will find out that you may end up with a bunch of useless holes. If you do this just right you will have a beautiful and solid staircase. It is rugged and built to last forever. February 20, 2010
