Will this keep pipes from freezing in 20 degrees cold weather?

How well does it keep pipes from freezing outdoors in 20 degree night time weather ? I need to know soon , THANKS
Asked by: Threecrows
Tubolit does have good thermal properties. Relative Humidity and Ambient Temperature are important in determining what thickness is required to help prevent freezing. The Armwin Thickness Calculator can be used to calculate the thickness that is needed. - http://bit.ly/1qdWjri

Can this be used for plastic pipe?

Can Tubolit 1/2 in. x 6 ft. Polyethylene Pipe Wrap Insulation be used on plastic pipe? Specs say copper and iron pipe. If not is there similar foe plastic pipe?
Asked by: Bob
Yes. This insulation can be used on plastic pipe. If you are insulating PVC piping, it will be the same pipe size as the Iron Pipe Size. If you are insulating CPVC, it will be the same pipe size as the Copper Pipe Size.

Tubolit 3/4 in. x 6 ft. Polyethylene Self-Seal Pipe Wrap Insulation is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor adhesive - get something else Yesterday I insulated about 100' of hot water pipes in my basement. Installation was a breeze, very easy to work with. I happened to be down there this morning, and almost every section I applied has become unglued from itself, leaving lengthwise gaps, especially near fittings on the pipes. Kind of defeats the purpose of insulating. Now I have to go back and tape each piece closed. This is the gray stuff; I'd recommend getting the darker stuff instead (also PE foam type). I installed some of that several weeks ago and had no such problem, it's as good as when I installed it, even close to the boiler where the water temperatures are higher. Not recommended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy to use but it shrinks This is very easy to install. You can cut with scissors or a knife and it can be bent around the corners. It does seem to insulate well (much better than the nothing I had in spots). There are 2 big problems: - it will shrink and what you installed nice and tight will have big gaps between the sections. - it doesn't hold up well in sunlight, I replaced some outside and it only lasted a year (the older material had lasted 20 years) NOTE you can get a cover for it and this might help.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Easy Install, But needs to be taped to stick The carton in the store says this works for 3/4" PVC pipe as well. My AC condensate drain line made of 3/4" PVC was sweating in my attic, so I insulated the first 6' of it, and now the whole thing is dry as a bone. The insulation was easy to install - just pop it around the pipe, pull the plastic off the sticky edges, and squeeze together. The only problem is that after about 10 minutes, the insulation started pulling apart. I ended up wrapping a length of tape around it about every 10-12", which holds it together fairly well. Doing this actually took about twice as long as installing the insulation in the first place. I'd gladly pay 1.5-2X more if it would stick like it's supposed to and save me the trouble of taping it. Also keep in mind that any couplings on the pipe will need a size of insulation up to be completely covered. Or you can cut out a little sliver of leftover insulation, shove it in the gap, and tape over it like I did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pipe insulation I've used This insulation has self-stick glue to hold the split seam together. That much application much easier than other pipe insulation I've used. And the r-value is the r-value. no differences there.
