Customer Questions & Answers

does this product have to be mounted or can it be hand carried like a tv remote

Asked by: bassmam1954
There is a range limitation, but it does not have to be mounted. We have ours loose in the silverware drawer. I'd guess 20 feet or so on range. If you are unsure what would work best, use double sticky tape to try it in various locations.

The dimmer doesn't slide into an existing 2-gang wall plate - the middle divider bulges slightly. Any suggestions?

I've replaced an old dimmer switch, which was paired with a GCFI receptacle, with the Armacost dimmer switch.
Asked by: Dennis
Your question is so old that I imagine you've fixed your issue, but for the benefit of anyone else; I had the exact same problem. Luckily the wall plate almost fits, so I just sanded the inside edges of the wall plate until it did fit. The more annoying thing is that the wall plate has a ridge on the back side of the wall plate to act as a spacer to bring the wall plate out flush with a standard rocker or square outlet. I really didn't like the look of the switch being sunken behind the wall plate so I used a rasp and sandpaper and removed this ridge. Unfortunately it took about an hour. It would probably go very quickly if you had a dremel.

Asked by: ken
Unfortunately, the Wireless Touchpad for 2-in-1 LED Dimmer is not currently available in an almond color. However, this device can be used with some switch plates by other manufacturers, and you could certainly couple this with an almond-colored wall plate.

When I pair the dimmer the led's ficker once so I asume its paired but cant get the dimmer to control the lights

Asked by: Jeff
If there is a polarity reversal on the 2-in-1 Dimmer input or output, it can cause your lights to be constantly on like you’re seeing, even if the Wireless Touchpad is properly paired. Try operating the rotary knob on the dimmer itself. If your lights do not respond to this input either, there is likely a polarity issue - check your positive and negative wiring alignment carefully. If the knob properly dims and turns the lighting on and off, then this may indicate another issue, or simply a faulty unit. In that case, please contact our support staff at support@armacostlighting.com for further assistance, or to obtain a replacement.

However, unless you intend to use the included surface-mounted box, it takes some creativity to install this touchpad into a wall. It is too wide to fit in any mounting bracket that I could find, and it does not fit in any wall plate I could find. The screw holes are very close to the touchpad body so drywall anchors will likely break loose. You will need to find some other way to secure this.

I was going to give this a low rating but after reading some other reviews, I called Armacost support and asked for their assistance. The wired aspect of the switch functions as it should but I had some issues with the RF touchpad. Armacost gave me great support and even sent me a replacement touchpad since mine was not transmitting signal. On the second one, there is a design flaw with the antenna in the dimmer switch when using the touchpad, but it was a very easy change inside the casing. Great customer support!

I was surprised at how easy this was to pair with the Armacost dimmer--and at how well it worked. We have not decided where to place the touchpad, so for now it is just in the silverware drawer. It works great from there, so placement does not seem fussy at all. This wireless add-on takes away all need for visible elements to undercabinet lighting. No wall-mounted boxes needed, and the only wiring is from the light tape to the powersupply and dimmer box, which can be easily concealed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works well but..... Works well with the 2-in-1 dimmer but the touch pad film keeps coming off the top portion above the on-off key. The adhesive they use to bond the key pad film to the baseplate apparently is not strong enough. Both of the boxes of this product and the dimmer that I purchased looked like they had been previously opened. Makes me wonder if they had been bought and returned before.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Working great for several months now No problems here. Paired easily and controls my third party puck lights just fine, large range from off to maximum brightness. Tapping appropriate button steps brightness up or down, holding it moves setting much quicker. Really appreciate the install options, mounted mine under kitchen cabinet to wall with no electrical box needed.

Syncing was easy if you follow the instructions. I like that the RF technology works through walls unlike some that need line of sight to work. Can be used like a remote, flush mounted or recessed in a low voltage box to blend into existing switches.

There are lots of wireless controllers much less expensive that work just fine. Installed this one because the customer wanted it on the wall and to look more like a standard light switch.

I mounted this to the wall with a command strip and used it that way for a few months before I got around to mounting it in the wall next to the switch for the overhead lights. I knew I might have to modify the electrical box in order to get a standard 2 gang switch plate to fit over this rocker switch as well as the adjacent light switch. What I didn't expect is that this Armacost touchpad is not made to fit inside a standard rocker switch faceplate. I had to sand the opening in the faceplate to enlarge it and get it to fit over this touchpad. I originally thought the faceplate wasn't manufactured properly so I took it back and tried a 2nd one. That one didn't fit either! Also, I have this switch paired with 2 dimmers, each of which controls the strip of lights on each side of the kitchen. About once a week the switch fails to turn off one of the dimmers. It doesn't happen quite often enough for me to be really unsatisfied and do something about it but I thought it would work more consistently than it does. Ultimately I recommend this product because it's the only way to post-install under cabinet lighting without having to tear things up to run wires. Next time I'll probably try a different manufacturer / product, though.
