Answer:
Hello Dave,
Thank you for contacting Armstrong Flooring.
If our installation and post installation recommendations are followed and the flooring is properly polished and sealed water sprayed onto the tile should not compromise the tile or subfloor.
I hope this information is helpful.

Looks great with the other two colors I chose to make the floor pattern in my 50s kitchen redo. I will be purchasing more for other rooms in the house. This is a great product at a great price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sturdy tiles for not a whole lot of money We laid these with the White Out VCT tiles. Now, beware that some of them are a little irregular, but not too bad. It just makes it a little bit of a pain when laying them.

I’ve been doing my own floors in many homes/rooms over the past 50-years and this tile is hands-down my favorite… though installing it is another story. It will last a lifetime even in heavy traffic and it’s what you see in most commercial locations like food stores. The color goes all the way through and it’s 1/8” thick so it’ll stand heavy traffic. My local HD stopped carrying it in store so it’s an online only purchase and that can also be a problem because the boxes are heavy and the corners are easily broken so I always have it delivered to the store for inspection before I haul it away. These tiles look great when waxed and there’s nothing that’s really going to do them harm. That’s the good news on this tile, regardless of color, and the downsides are all in the installation process. You first need a solid & smooth surface so I always lay down particle board 4x8 sheets and 3/8” is usually good if the floor is solid and have gone to 5/8” when the floor is uneven or in poor condition. You need to use VCT adhesive with a notched trowel but don’t start pressing the tiles in place until it’s no longer wet to the touch. To get a good tight fit I often heat the edges with a heat gun to make them more pliable and then use a heavy hand roller to ensure they are set in the adhesive. I’m installing a new floor in my fire room and when the stove spits out some sparks there’s no worry of anything burning and the floor is easy to clean. This may be a bit harsh type of a floor for some folks but an area rug works well to break things up a bit. No complaints with the product but picking the color online can be tough since these usually run a bit darker than they look online.

I installed this in my 50s kitchen along with two other colors to create the pattern I desired. This color, classic black, was a lot more brittle than the other two colors. It broke and chipped very easily. It was perfectly fine once installed so don't be afraid to purchase classic black, just be aware that you have to handle the individual tiles with a lot more care than you do tiles of other colors. Look amazing when complete!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tile for Rental Property I love the color of this VCT tile. It looks great in the kitchen of this rental property that we are remodeling. I love the idea of using different colors to create a pattern. Will be ordering more in the future.

I used this tile in my last house, and because it was not only durable and beautiful it was what I wanted it again for my new home.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice flooring but watch out for irregular tiles I purchased these as well as the Classic Black. Pretty sturdy tiles, installation was pretty easy however, some of the tiles are not square. Not a huge problem but buy some extra ones just in case. Our kitchen is 16' square and all the tiling was completed over the weekend. We used the adhesive that Armstrong recommends that is sold on this site, and rented a 100 lb roller. Helpful tidbit here. We rented the roller on Friday afternoon and returned Monday morning. Since it was on a weekend, we were only charged for a 1 day rental. Also, make sure to go somewhat easy on the adhesive you lay down. Less is definitely more or it will be oozing out from under the flooring. Spread a decent sized area, you need to wait 30 minutes, then lay the tiles on top. Then use the roller. I plan on using their floor wax with a sponge mop once all cabinets are installed.
