ONCE YOU START TO PUMPM WILL IT KEEP FLOWING OR DO HAVE KEEP PUMPING IT

Asked by: CARLTON
If you make sure that the level of the liquid you are draining into is lower than the level of the liquid you are siphoning from, the laws of physics say it will keep flowing - but I would probably help it along a bit so that the job is done quicker.

can i use this pump to drain gas from my cars gas tank through the filler neck

Asked by: PETRO
I believe you could but you would need to purchase tubing that fits the pump and is long enough to go into gas tank.

What do you do when it won't syphon

Asked by: Strawberry7
I also could not get it to siphon. I believe whomever named this item, does not know what a siphon is. This item is simply a pump, not a pump started siphon.

What would be the ideal type of oil to use to lubricate?

Just bought one, and I can understand from reading the reviews that spraying the oil into it is pretty much key to making it work properly. On the unit it says; "Oil- spray light oil into barrel at top nozzle when dry". So someone mentioned cooking spray but what would be the manufacturer recommendation for ideal type of oil to spray in there to ensure long life and top performance of the pump?

What lubrication does one use for the pump? Why not print that info on the box???

Siphon Pump Kit is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 109.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Piece of Garbage I would give it a "0" rating but that isn't an option. I followed the instructions and lubed it with vegetable oil when finished. I used it a total of "3" times before it stopped working. That equates to $4.00 a siphon. I actually say a youtube video where a guy made a siphon with two pieces of hose. One goes in the tank and the short piece of hose also just goes into the top of the tank. I put rag around the top of the tank and blew into the short piece of hose, hence pressurizing that tank and forcing the gas out of the other hose. I am going to try it as it looks simple, like it will work, cheap, and never break. Again, don't waste your money on this piece of garbage.

I bought this to pump the old engine oil out through the dipstick tube of my sailboat's diesel engine. Frankly, the pump was a failure. Two major problems: The intake tube (the thin black tube) was curled tightly enough that I couldn't get it in position in the bottom of the crankcase, and the intake fitting kept loosening and breaking the seal. (I mean, after one or two pump strokes.) I finally managed to get enough of the old oil pumped out, but it was a struggle - and I returned the pump the evening after I bought it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WORKED GREAT, BUT This Siphon pumped worked well, but one thing I didn't like was that it was almost impossible to keep the hose straight while siphoning out the gas tank on my motorcycle. Once the level of gas drops and the tip of the hose is sucking air because the hose coils it useless. I found a hard plastic tube to stick into the end of the siphon hose to keep it straight and it worked well. It was sort of like a hard plastic straw that was at least 12 inches long. I only left about 3 inches outside the hose to be my siphon tip.

It works well, just be certain to seat the hoses into the pump or it will leak, and I don't miss the taste of siphoning gasoline...even though my dad always told me, "it won't kill you." Really? If your dad is an "old school wrencher" buy one for both of you and save your taste buds for better things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked as expected Used to transfer semi gloss paint from 5 gallon bucket to smaller container. A little harder than thinner liquids but it got the job done. Was able to pull pump completely apart to clean with little effort. Reassembly was just as easy. (Note: pay attention to how the black disc goes if installed backwards it will not work).

I needed to empty a gas tank that was so low I could not siphon it. This pump got 14 gallons of fuel out in only a few minutes pumping. Great for the once I had to have it. Would look for something with better connections if I had to do it more often.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great If you follow the instructions you shouldn't have any trouble with this pump. Make sure you spray lubricant ( I used vegetable cooking spray ) into the intake tube (the top tube) and move the pump handle up & down several times, and repeat. Next assemble the pump as instructed ( will vary on your use.....) place top hose into liquid to be pumped and point bottom hose where liquid is to go...when finished clean unit by pumping soapy water through it !! When finished dry everything and re-prime pump with vegetable oil. I believe a lot of these negative reviews are from operator error....you got to be smarter than the equipment you operate !!!

Problem was that the tank I was trying to drain was already almost empty... Will keep for use on the snowblower - if it ever snows enough here to need draining at the end of the season.
