Customer Questions & Answers

What is the ACTUAL shelf depth?

Though the specs list 9" deep, it looks like that's just the base, and the shelves are shallower (as one reviewer mentioned DVDs being a bit 'unsupported' - wider). Yet another instance of crucial specification missing!
Asked by: BillB
The base, for stability, is 9". The sides and top are 6" deep. The shelves are 4 1/2" deep.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the money Needed two people to put together but definitely a good product. Going to buy another one for our growing DVD collection. Fairly easy directions. Only thing I didn't like was the lip on the bottom makes it difficult to put the back on while laying down. We kept it up right and one person held the Shelf while other Nails on the back and it worked great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality! I searched online for a week and home depot had this cabinet for at least $20 cheaper than anywhere else. I had it sent to the store forpickup and it came in less than a week. I'm very happy with the quality and size of this shelf and experience I had with home depot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It holds a lot of DVDs and it looks pretty good. It does the job. You need plenty of room and a little patience to put it together. It doesn't look like fine furniture, but it's cheap and holds all my DVDs. It's exactly what I was looking for. It arrived about 4 days after I ordered it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The maker of this product needs to make some improvements The product looks good on screen and decent once it is put together but it took getting through some issues to get there. Firstly, the instructions are incorrect in 2 places. Instructions #4 and #5 regarding shelves G and E respectively. For both of those upright pieces, the instructions show explicitly to have the recess where a locking mechanism sits facing right. There are 4 upright pieces for the top portion of the unit and 4 for the bottom portion. If the instructions are followed as shown 2 shelves should have the recess facing right (both bottom and top) and 2 shelves with the recess not shown meaning those recesses should face left (both bottom and top). However, if you put the recess in that configuration both bottom and top, you will have 3 upright shelves giving you the finished side of the wood and the remaining shelf will give you the unfinished side. I like to follow instructions to the letter when putting things together because I figure the company that made the unit and also made the instructions wouldn't make a mistake. I was wrong. Secondly, the manufacturer only gave the exact number of pieces (screws, locking mechanisms, etc.) needed to build the unit and of course during my build one of the locking mechanisms became deformed when attempting to turn in to lock in a screw from another piece of wood. So I then went to my local home depot and they called up the company who made the product to have them send extra locking mechanisms OVERNIGHT. I got on the phone with the manufacturer and gave all my information to them. I received the pieces.....6 DAYS LATER. Meanwhile I have a half finished unit on my living room floor and 2000 DVDs strewn all over the place for 6 days. Next issue. Related to the 2nd point I made. They did give me about 20 extra nails/tacks that are used to put the backboard on the unit. Instead of giving that many extra nails/tacks how about giving 8 extra of that and 1 extra of all the other pieces just in case 1 does get deformed or breaks like which happened to me. On other storage units I have put together at the bottom back of the units the pieces of wood have a curved cutout so the unit can fit snugly over molding at the bottom of the wall so the unit sits flat against the wall. This unit does not have that. Now they did include a wall anchor but when I put something together I'd rather not have to put holes in walls. I just don't see the point. So right now the unit sits about 3/4 of inch away from the wall (except for the bottom of the unit which sits against the molding) and wobbles so I have to be very careful when removing a dvd from the unit. Unnecessary. Also, on other units I have put together, the shelves that actually hold the dvds are wide enough that the front of each shelf is flush with the front of the upright pieces. Not with this unit. The shelves are about 1 inch short of being flush with the front of the upright pieces so now when the dvds sit on the shelf about 1 inch of them towards the front are not supported. So now if I have a shelf of dvds that might be slightly tight in the shelf and I pull 1 out the others come down with it like they are going to fall off the shelf. Lastly, on other things I have put together that have the locking mechanism recess on them, when you're done putting the unit together, there are plastic caps (for want of a better term) that have the same color as the wood and grain of the wood that are put over the recess to hide it from view. This is not included with this unit so now instead of seeing all wood on the upright pieces of wood you now see mostly wood with the recess sitting there blaring at the eye. Please note I do not blame Home Depot for any of this. These gripes are all on the manufacturer since they are the ones who made the incorrect instructions and the unit itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Size for DVDs My husband is a DVDaholic and we needed a place to store his collection and easily see the titles of the movies. Everything I looked at was way too large for the space we have to put a cabinet -- either wasted space, or two layers of DVDs -- until I found this cabinet online. The depth of the cabinet is the width of a DVD, perfect for the space we have for it. We will probably be buying another one!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sub standard quality for a Home Depot item Will be returning item. Piece missing, poor instructions, holes did not line up for a smooth finish, poor quality hardware. For what I paid, will now build my own out of scrap lumber that I have, and I will end up with a much nicer unit..
