Answer:
Yes, but I can tell you that in 13 years I have owned two of these grills and have never had the need to replace them. I do not overload the grates and as a matter of fact when I discarded my first Aussie, I saved the grate and still have it as a back up.

Answer:
Frankly, I recommend that you throw this grill away. It is not worth the cost of a new grate. Instead buy a Weber Smokey Joe. You'll find that you will save the money to pay for it because it uses far less charcoal to get hot than the Aussie grill. You'll find the Weber will last much longer and is so tight that it can save unused charcoal for your next time.

Answer:
The vents are useless in controlling temperature. The grill never gets hot enough in full-throttle.
It's worthless IMHO.

Every version of this grill that I have owned has a vent on the front AND back of the lower bowl. As well as the hood vent.

You can order the ash catcher directly from the manufacturer (I just did it.) It was $19.95 with shipping. The customer service phone number is 1.800.251.7558. Or you can check out their website at meco.net. Very helpful service. Bob

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 81 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Needed a bigger grill I was hosting a cookout in the park and the grill I had was too small to handle the amount of food needed. I found this grill online and placed an order. I was able to pick it up the next morning. This grill definitely did what I needed it to do that day. August 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Portable grill Easily transportable, but no handle on the grilling grate. September 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not so awesome grill I too have been buying this grill for many years but I'm very disappointed this year, they've taken the pieces off the back now I have trouble controlling the heat with five open holes! I'm going to shop around, what a shame August 21, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lacking Back Vent I had one of these grills for 8 years and it worked great. It was time for a new one, and I was disappointed that the manufacturer has stopped attaching the back vent panel. Without this rear vent control you cannot control all of the air intake. Really bad move by Aussie. The manufacturer sells the missing vent panel for $7.95, but does not ship to Canada...... August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not bad for price This is a decent grill but keep it in mind it's not $100 or $150 grill. Yes you may loose some key features such as thermometer and hinged or handle grate. But it does good for a grill at this price. Had mine just over two years and is holding up. I use it to cook chicken pork ribs and even low and slow pork butt. I made a 10.5 pd. Pork butt for many hours but it is a bit of a challenge with no way to access the coals without removing everything but with the little patience it can be done and may I say all I cook comes out great..So if you want a grill to use without spending a lot go for this. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great little grill Perfect for home or travel. Folds up ez and compact. Great for that "real" charcoal taste and when I don't want to use the gas grill. Naturally creates more smoke than the gas grill but the payoff is worth it. Easy to move around with the wheels. Priced just right. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Simple but effective and it folds up for easy storage!! August 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works as expected. I purchased this grill to go with my gas grill for bigger cookouts. I need it to be portable and sturdy. It met both requirements. It is a decent size for portable grill as well. August 16, 2016
