Questions & Answers

how does the wringer function work? I can't get it to work.

Asked by: housecleaner
You hold onto the handle, then grab the wringer assembly and push the wringer assembly down. It should force the sponge to bend at middle and squeeze it dry. If it does not, check for anything preventing it from doing so.

How should I attach a grey scrubber strip to the mop

Please advice how I should attach a grey scrubber strip to the mop. It goes apart from the mop even in the idle mode.
Asked by: Jacob
That is a problem. When I hold the head flat on the scrubber with extra force, it stays in place.

What is automatic about the HDX Automatic Sponge Mop?

There are no directions in the package.
Asked by: Richard
Perhaps because the sponge automatically springs back into place after moving the handle grip upward?

The (2) fasteners do not screw on tight to hold the mop in place. Are they suppose to?

Asked by: Sharon
Yes, they are supposed to screw on tight enough to hold the sponge on.

Automatic Sponge Mop is rated 2.6 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke on first use I don’t know why Home Depot sells this terrible mop. It’s a piece of junk that broke on first use. As you can tell from the reviews, that’s a common customer experience for anyone purchasing this lousy mop. A waste of time and money. Can’t believe Home Depot stocks and sells this.

First time I used it the sponge came off, plastic nuts that hold the sponge to the mop stripped right out. And the gray scrubber does not stay on the mop, also came off almost immediately. A throw-away toy, not a real cleaning tool. Going to return it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worse mop I've ever had This mop is the worst mop I've ever had. I purchased 3 refills when I bought the mop. The screw tabs that hold on the sponge refill have never worked properly. They constantly fall off. I have kept the mop longer than I should have because I wanted to get good use out of the refills. The screw tabs fall off while rinsing the mop, they fall off when I squeeze the sponge and they fall off while I'm mopping. Today after I use the sponge only on my hands and knees to mop, I will then take great pleasure in going outside and beating this mop into a million pieces. I would never recommend anyone buy this mop! I will give it one star because it does resemble a mop.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broke after using 4x I was actually excited when I first got this mop. It worked great the first 4x I used it! Then I went to use it again & it broke. I went to push down the lever which folds the mop head sponge together while it's supposed to squeeze the excess water out when a plastic part snapped & broke. That part is not fixable. I'm just glad I haven't yet bought replacement sponges for this or I would be out that money. It's disappointing because the rest of the mop seems sturdy. It must be a design flaw. I'll attach photos of the broken area.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent, economical mop I've been looking for a flat sponge mop for my parkay floor - the sponge and extra cleaning strip have worked great so far. You can also re-use both the sponge head and scrub strip and wash them, and place them back on the mop. But why only three stars? The plastic mop head bolts are cheap and fiddly. I literally had to search around HomeDepot.com to find how to properly screw the bolts back in - otherwise, they will repeatedly fall off. The trick is to make sure the screws are flat-side down, and turn them only 1/4 around, otherwise the screws will inexplicably pop off again. Once you get the method down, the mop in itself is pretty great.

The sponge fell off the mop head ten minutes after I started using it. It appears the cheap, molded plastic screws aren't designed to hold up to any stress. I should have guessed that at the store when I noticed half the mops had missing sponges. The little scrubber strip has to be attached separately, but the plastic "hooks" that hold it in place, don't grip very well, so the strip fell off almost immediately. Of course, now that I've used the mop, I can't return it (no guarantee). Can you say "waste of money"?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this thing Far and away the best sponge mop I have used. Lightweight, easy to wring, easy to replace the sponge head (which by the way there are plenty of refills right by where the mops are sold). Much, much better than the roller type ones. I am very surprised there are people that don't like this. Recommend to anyone and will buy again.
