Product Overview

Utilizing Avallon’s exclusive InvisiMist drain technology, this 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner liberates you from ever having to drain an internal reservoir again. As warm air and humidity are normally associated, this portable air conditioner (PAC) is engineered to remove up to 80 pints of moisture from your air per day. In many cases, the unit’s self-evaporative function will expel the majority of air moisture. However, in high-humidity environments, self-evaporation is not enough. Excess water accumulates in the internal reservoir and, to prevent itself from overflowing onto your floor, a PAC will automatically turn off. This can happen at any time and will require you to manually drain the PAC. The InvisiMist system solves this problem. Consisting of an internal drain pump, a water line and our InvisiMist nozzle, the system automatically turns on when water accumulates and safely disposes of it through the easy-to-assemble window kit. This unit is more powerful than other 12,000 BTU PACs, cooling your space up to 40% more quickly because of its dual-hose air system, which separates intake and exhaust, allowing for more air intake and cooling power. The three adjustable fan speeds allow you to customize the unit’s operations to suit your cooling preferences. Included casters enable you move this PAC to wherever you need it, and the included remote with LED display allows you to easily change operating settings from anywhere in the room.

Why two hoses? Noise level not stated...why?

This question is from 12,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner with InvisiMist Smart Drain Technology

Can't I leave one hose off and let the intake come from the room air itself the same way window air conditioners do? If the unit is taking air that already has dropped in temperature due to the cooling action of the unit, then it seems it would be easier to keep cooling that air than bringing in much hotter air from outside and needing to cool that. And I notice many other standalones only have one hose. Wondering how is two more efficient as the description claims.

Is there any reason why there is no noise rating listed (dbA)? How loud is this unit? I thought the question about being able to watch TV was humorous but I get what was being ask -- it is LOUD, which seems to be a universal problem with these units where the noisy compressors are INSIDE the room, not outside the window like regular window air conditioners. It worries me that it has no "sleep mode since A/C units that have sleep mode do so as a way to quiet them down at night.

Why don't you read the product overview? It clearly says:"Low noise level of only 55 dBA"

One hose creates a negative atmosphere, thus sucking air into your room from the outside or surrounding rooms, reducing efficiency. Think of a window unit - all the heat expelled on the outside portion of the unit uses the surrounding outdoor air that passes over the condenser's coil. The evaporator resides on the inside of the unit only, recirculating cooled air within the room. Single-hose portable A/C units are much less efficient, especially if the surrounding room(s) are much hotter than the one you're trying to cool off. Read Less

I suggest you build your own using insulating foam board. It cost me $5.00 instead of $60.00 and I was able to make it fit perfectly.

All portable ACs will work in a sliding window type setting but require some modification. You will need a window panel that fits the height of the window. Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by unit failed miserably the unit provided good air until 3-4 months, after which it failed. looking inside, the evaporator coil rusted inside and the freon leaked away. considering that this unit was only 3 months old, that is just ridiculous. I cant imagine ever buying this brand or model again. I returned the unit to HD after 4 months for an in store credit. September 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by extremely noisy, impossible to use at night This unit is so loud it can only be operated during the day with the T.V. on maximum volume. Forget trying to sleep. The instructions were extremely difficult to follow to put it together. It was missing parts, and there's a rather-important part sitting in the box that isn't shown in the instructions at all. Seems to work without it, but I wish I hadn't bought this. Very disappointed in noise level. August 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Right AC For Me The most important factors for my purchase was dual vent (look it up). It keeps inside air in and hot, outside air out. Single vent systems don't do that as well, in my opinion. The other great feature? Automatic dehumidification and venting of condensation via spray through exhaust hose: genius! Depending I don't know why they don't promote this unit more. The various modes and the color-coordinated panel-per-mode is great when you wonder what mode it is in and what it is doing. Nice remote with timed on or off, so you are not freezing your buns off or wasting electricity. Still new, so I have not experienced any issues, but my initial reaction is that this is a good unit from a US company. June 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Missing the included water line. I bought this unit because I was thrilled to try the Invisimist feature that wouldn't require me to drain it. When it arrived, the water line, which is required in order to use the Invisimist feature, was not included, despite it saying on the box and in the manual that it was included. Upon reading the manual, it states the quick connect adapter must be used on the end of the water line in order for it to pump water at all. So, long story short, if I try to attach something of my own to the drain, it won't recognize it, which means the pump won't even turn on. I am absolutely disgusted. July 8, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Happy With Purchase Have central air, but my wife likes it extra cold. Powerful, not too loud and installation was relatively easy. Had to cut the plastic window panel with a circular saw. One panel was not enough, but two panels together were too large to fit the window. Also comparatively pricey. Pay extra for home delivery unless you have a large SUV or pick-up truck. Box is pretty big. Home Depot delivered it to the door within a couple of days of ordering. The unit is large and the hoses are noticeable, but it's better than having something sticking out of the window in the front of the house. It's not really noticeable from outside. April 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does what I bought it for. It was easy enough to put together but it requires a lot of room so if you have a small room like I do, prepare rearrange and fight a little bit. The hoses are not as flexible as I would have liked but once I got it into the window, it worked pretty good. I do think it is a bit expensive considering how awkward it is. June 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by totally pleased with product My daughter has a health issue which causes her to be in serious pain if the room is too warm. She has central air but in order for it to be cool enough for her, the rest of the house and family feel like they are freezing. Not to mention a sky high electricity bill. Her community association won't allow window units as they say they are an eye sore. My son told me about portable air conditioners and suggested this one. I got it for her and she put it in her bedroom. IIt was easy to install and she loves it! She said she can finally have the bedroom at a cooler temperature and get a good nights sleep without freezing the rest of the family. She also loves the remote control. I am glad I got it and would definitely recommend it ! If you need to cool a room (office, workshop, etc.) it is perfect and cools a relatively large area. My daughter is pleased with it and that's good enough for me. August 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Cooling w/out the Hassle! I've used several other portable A/Cs, but this one works and you don't have to empty it! I've used it in Georgia and Alabama (high heat and humidity) with great success. It cools really well and does such a good job of venting the moisture outside that I haven't noticed if the pump has been used! Other models require frequent emptying of the water collection reservoir, but not this one! Sleep through the night with no worries! You can find less expensive units out there, but this unit is worth every penny! (I hate emptying the reservoir!) October 7, 2014
