In less than two years the fan wheel broke. The unit is not even moved around it stays in same spot during the winter months and only the vent is removed from window. Not worth the $500 I spent for it to last less than 2 years. Also, having trouble finding a place to repair portable A/C units. Also, not energy efficient if you dare to purchase be prepared for your electric bill to increase dramatically.

Got my second one and it quit working just like the first one did. These units take a tremendous amount of current to operate for the few minutes they did run. The 2 I have had would trip a 20 amp breaker after about 10 minutes of run time. The reset on the plug with both units did not function. If you look at the back of the unit where the inlet hose connects you will see just below this connection the back of the unit is open up to the hose! This "inlet" hose is just decoration not functional at all.
Home Depot has been great through all of this. I think its time to try a different brand.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Angus Why didn't I buy this earlier??
Assembling the unit took more time than did the prior AC unit I had, but it was entirely worth the time and effort. The unit is a whole lot quieter than the previous unit, and the vents on the top of the unit are much more effective cooling than were the front mounted vents of the last AC unit. I don't use the remote as a remote, I just leave it in its holder. My unit cools a room with multiple PCs, so I set it and forget it. I like the dual hose setup since I don't end up exhausting cooled interior air in order to cool the room. I suspect I could probably sleep with this bad boy going in my bedroom if I had to, but it would be a bit loud for my preference. The smart drain system has so far worked flawlessly for the last month.

Fairly easy to set up - but! Measure the window you're going to use & check to see if you need to have a panel of the window adapting kit cut to fit! Comes with 3 panels, 2 solid, one for the 2 hoses to attach to (and the openings can't be blocked, so allow for them when measuring!). I ended up putting my first unit (I just bought my 2nd!) in a different window than I had originally planned, because I needed it up & running ASAP and it wouldn't fit. Now I have a set-up for two different sized windows, and extra panels available to customize the fit for a 3rd (yet another size!). I'm planning to get a 3rd one for next season - with my house, having 3 will work best. My favorite feature is the misting spray: I work long hours, plus I have disabilities limiting what I can do physically, so not having to empty the accumulated water is a major plus!

It works well for me. I live in Santa Monica, CA and don't need but for some sweltering & humid nights that are impossible to sleep during. Nobody here has AC in the old apartments, so I finally gave in and got his. I am very happy. I can now sleep at night or just relax during the hot day if needed. The dual hose system is the key! I like the remote and you can turn off the light that lets you know what mode it is in for sleeping. I sleep with it without a problem, it is no louder than the fans I use. It does shift into different modes throughout to regulate the temperature which is awesome you won't get too cold, or too hot.
The window kits did NOT fit my window at all. I made them but it did take some time so prepare for that. I used heavy cardboard and some bubble insulation with lots of duct tape and it fits perfectly and actually blocks all outside air (the one that came with it was not insulated and there was room for air to come in around the hose).
I had to order a furniture dolly ($20 from Home Depot) to take it from my car to the elevator, and then to my apt and room. But it was easy to move the AC with that, otherwise I could not have done it alone. I am a petite older woman, so it can be done without anyone else to help you.
I would say to buy it, it will cool off your room and let you get on with your life!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ScoobyFan Pretty good overall
The Avalon A/C does a fair job. We actually have two A/C units in our family room trying to keep the area cool because besides having a large family room with a vaulted ceiling, we have somewhat of an open concept into the kitchen and dining area. This A/C unit alone is way too small for all three rooms. Between the two units we can keep the family room pretty comfortable; around 76 degrees on a mid 90 degree day. It doesn't matter if I start the A/C units in the morning or in the afternoon as long as the room is 76 degrees or cooler, it'll still keep the room comfortable.
I suspect if our house had an attic fan the A/C unit would perform better as the heat in other areas of the house skyrockets through the afternoon since roofing vents just don't cut it.
I do like the invisimist feature with not having to drain the A/C unit like our second one. It was easy to install and the hoses were not as flimsy as our other unit. Noisy, but that was to be expected from other reviews.
