The City recently repaved my road and I went to run the edger last week and found they had not trimmed the asphalt straight. Will this blade be suitable for straitening out about 6 feet of the asphalt edges?
Asked by: JH
Asphalt has a lot of aggregate in it and if you need a deep cut I think you would go through many blades. I would use a diamond blade in that kind of service.

4-1/2 in. x 1/16 in. x 7/8 in. Thin Kerf Masonry Cutting Disc is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not last very long cutting paver bricks This product would probably be more suitable for thin pavers or even tile. But it doesnt last long cutting 2" thick pavers. After 5 bricks, its so worn out i cant get a deep enough cut.

Used to shape replacement flagstones on our patio with a angle grinder and did the job just fine, however this was not like cutting through concrete or block. I usually use Diablo wheels and am pretty sure they would out last these, but for the price and a small job I think they are a good deal. However, based on the diameter loss from trimming up the flagstone I would say these would not last long in tough service and you would be better off with a diamond blade for cutting or a thicker blade for trimming like the Diablo.

Wears down a bit quick, but is much cheaper than tougher wheels.... ...and always in-stock at my local store. I just grab a few and they usually get me through the job. And if I get careless, snag and snap a wheel, no big cry. Fits most angle-grinders perfectly. On some you have to flip a washer to get the right size and grip. Also works on steel, though there are other wheels better suited for that.

This Avanti Pro 4-1/2 in. x 1/16 in. x 7/8 in. thin masonry cutting disc, really works well. I used it with my right angle grinder. I had to use an adapter since it has a 7/8" hole and my grinder has a 5/8" shaft. That was the only problem. It cut the mortar out of the brick joints on the wall I was repairing. The 1/16" thickness was ideal for removing the mortar. It is strong and showed no signs breaking.

Great little disc for cutting brick and other similar materials but it really doesn't last that long. We were building a small cooking pit and deck for grilling. This disk did the trick. In some cases we had to chip away what was left at the corners. We had to cut 12 bricks so for $2 this was not a bad investment. The only problem is constantly replacing the disc.

Building a retaining wall from concrete-based blocks, I needed to cut several in half or in other shapes to create a straight end where it meets with an existing wall. I got this blade to cut them, but the blade is so thin it wouldn't fit in my 4-1/2 inch angle grinder. I figured out that I needed to buy a Backing Flange (just a few dollars) to hold it tight. Once I got that, I was able to go to town on the blocks. Of course, you cannot cut all the way through the blocks with a blade this size, but I was able to cut very neat lines about 1/2 inch deep all the way around, then a few hits with a hammer and chisel usually made the block break right along the line I had cut with very neat edges. The one difficulty I had was that the discs seemed to wear quickly. I was able to cut about 3 blocks per disk; I ended up buying a handful of them and changing them out as they wore out. But this is much easier than the alternative, diamond-tipped wet cutting blades. For a relatively small job, these blades did the job perfectly and avoided a large investment in tools.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works on tile, it's just slow I bought this to trim some tiles in a bathroom project I've been doing. The wheel itself is pretty thin. I had to swap around some of the nuts on my angle grinder to get this to hold in place. This will cut tile, but it is slow in doing so. You would be better off using a diamond tipped cutting wheel instead, which I ended up doing.
