Customer Questions & Answers

I need to remove grout from between floor tiles.

What sort of tool would I need? A small diameter wire wheel attached to a cordless drill perhaps?
Asked by: cholly123
My thoughts are would possible damage tiles, personally I would not use it for that purpose, buy a multi tool with the grout blade.

I went through three of these while removing rust from a steel bakers rack and oxidation from aluminum patio furniture. The steel was badly rusted and required a lot of force to clean, so I'm not surprised this wore it out quickly. See picture for one that's shot and one that's partially used. The oxidized aluminum wasn't as bad (a lighter touch was sufficient), but the wheels still wore out after a couple of chairs. I haven't used competing projects, so It's possible I'm expecting too much. It was the only brand Home Depot stocked and I'd use it again, but would first try to find one that reportedly lasts longer. It goes without saying, but wear gloves. These are nasty to touch when they're stationary, and can really do damage when spinning!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A wise choice! I used the circular wire wheel to remove old hardened mastic from a hardwood floor after a liquid softener had been used to help soften the mastic. The brush was used with a variable speed drill in the middle range, and it removed about 98% of the mastic without damaging any of the wood (oak). After that I used a belt sander to remove the rest and smooth the floor. Without that wire wheel, cleaning off the floor would have been much more of a chore.

It was easy to attach to my power drill and quickly sanded off layers of stain and varnish from detailed areas. I used this on old furniture that I was giving a worn-look finish to; I don't think I would use it on fine furniture as the wires do scratch the wood. Overall, it was perfect for the project I purchased it for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total Garbag I was using this to grind some paint off of some pieces of wood. The wire pieces immediately started flying off. After 30 minutes, this is what was left. Totally useless.
