Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Savin Behr deck stains have worked well for us and we love the color of California Rustic.
Good coverage on stain. Only had to use 5 gallons to complete the job. It has held up well for us in the past.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mark Great product, great price!
I was already planning to purchase Behr stain for my house due to the great review by Consumer Reports when the Labor Day Sale came up! I was very pleased with color and how well it went on the Cedar siding. Highly recommended!

We have always had great success with other Behr products and viewing all the reviews of this product, we expected the same great quality. We were disappointed. We prepped the deck as recommended with Behr All in One Wood Cleaner abd a power washer. Once dry after a few days of hot sun, we did the first coat. It looked great. Did a second coat on the deck boards two days later and reveled in how good it looked. Well, a few days after it was chipping and staining. How sad and how expensive! We bought four gallons and used three and will have to purchase some other product to fix this mess.

I have a 600 sq. ft deck with benches around the perimeter that is over a year old. The wood weathered gray and had mildew feeding on the sun-bleached fiber. I pressure blasted the old fiber/mildew off and then sanded with a belt sander using 40 grit. I applied two thin coats and got excellent results but the first coat covered 400 sq. ft. per gallon, which I had not planned for (200 sq. ft. specified by product). As a result I bought about 50% more than I needed. Previous semi-transparent stains I've used would soak up the product much more on the first coat but this is my first solid stain experience so maybe that is the difference. Behr does make excellent high-solid paints with great coverage. Also, make sure you look at the color on wood samples at the store before you buy. I did and the color was represented well.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ghia Great looking finish so far!
Over time, we have built more deck than we need, but love it. Finish had gone downhill but we usually only use Behr products so we started looking. Settled on this in Padre Brown. Few photos show part of what we used 22 gallons on! Sure hope it lasts, because I don't want to paint all this again!!!! So far, it looks brand new. Age ranges from 18 to 10 years, but looks uniform now.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by KeysBum Great product
5 years ago we used the solid color stain on decks I thought I was going to need to replace. I was just hoping to get another few years out of the decks before dropping big $ replacing them. I live on the water in the Florida Keys. A harsh enviornment. I have Great Danes running on the Decks. Great Danes aren't easy on anything. 5 years later and The decks with southern exposure are just now looking like they need refreshing. The Northern exposure decks still look great. I'm on my way to Home Depot to pick up a few more gallons and refresh the southern exposure. I may never have to replace the decks. This stuff is great!

This product did not stick, but rather, it had the consistency and weight of a can of water. I lost 3 hours to sanding and power washing this product off of my fence to once again prepare the surface for new paint. I had to visit Sherwin Williams for their version of this item, which worked fantastically well under identical conditions, although their product is normally way more expensive.
Note that 10+ years ago, this fence was painted with Home Depot's previous version of the Behr fence stain, which is now discontinued. For this project, I also added & painted New pickets, which took the stain, but did not look anywhere near the intended color. Note that Home Depot associates were fantastically helpful & supportive, per usual, but they did not have a better product to sell me.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by DIYer311 If using on older deck be sure to use a good wood primer first.
While I do like the product, at this point (after four days of having it applied to my deck), I am questioning its durability. Proper prep is key, which is what I did (sand, deck clean, power wash) in the back of my head though I really thought that it was best to also prime the wood, but one of the features of this paint was that you did not need to prime. Therefore against my better judgement I did not prime. Well after applying, some of the rusty nails started to bleed through and some areas of the stain really did not stand up well against rubbing and normal deck usage (it started to peel). Also while the stain does look good after doing two to three coats, I would suggest that you start with a wood primer first. It will make your life a lot easier. (Do not believe the label (PRIME FIRST -before applying).
In my case I did apply the primer over the problem areas and then reapplied the BHER stain, and like magic, no more problems. I wished that I had stayed with my gut instead of believing in the label (OH WELL - lesson learned).
