Answer:
There are many colors available and Home Depot stocks the Behr white base then mixes to whatever color you select using a precise color component measuring system. But be sure to look at the color over wood samples in the store before you purchase. The printed colors don't represent well and never select a color by looking at a computer monitor as the color changes with viewing angle.

Can you apply this product over a painted area? I have a shed that is painted. Can I apply it over the existing paint?

Answer:
This is a water based coating. If your shed was previously coated with an oil based coating you could have bonding issues. I recommend sanding a small area and trying the coating over it first. I don't recommend simply coating over an old coating with no surface preparation.

I not sure I understand this question. It appears that the Behr waterproofing wood stain, which is water based was stray painted over an existing garage door of some unstated surface material and coating.
As long as the underlying garage door coating is somewhat aged and not fresh there should be no issue with peeling. However if there is not sufficient surface profile on the door surface any coating has the potential to peel.
I would recommend trying a solvent (mineral spirits, acetone, Methyl Ethel Keytone in order of strength) to clean up the stray stain and be careful that you do not take off the underlying coating. If you plan on repainting the garage door you should try to remove the stain and wipe down any chalked coating with a solvent, then lightly sand for profile before applying a new coating. There is no reason to use an oil based coating over the garage door as long as you buy a quality water based coating. Read Less

Hi Kar,
Thanks for your question. If the surface was in sound condition and properly prepped, the solid color stain should not peel. We don't recommend topcoating with an oil-base finish.

Answer:
No, the can specifies the temperature range on the back but anything in the mid-50's to about 90 should apply satisfactorily for nearly any coating. Your applicator will tend to dry out with higher temperatures however.

Hi Bob, thank you for your question. Yes, staining is the 70s is fine. The recommended temperature for staining is 40-90 ̊ F or 4.5-32 ̊ C. Be sure to follow all back label instructions and best of luck on your project.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 53 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Covers More Area Than Specified I have a 600 sq. ft deck with benches around the perimeter that is over a year old. The wood weathered gray and had mildew feeding on the sun-bleached fiber. I pressure blasted the old fiber/mildew off and then sanded with a belt sander using 40 grit. I applied two thin coats and got excellent results but the first coat covered 400 sq. ft. per gallon, which I had not planned for (200 sq. ft. specified by product). As a result I bought about 50% more than I needed. Previous semi-transparent stains I've used would soak up the product much more on the first coat but this is my first solid stain experience so maybe that is the difference. Behr does make excellent high-solid paints with great coverage. Also, make sure you look at the color on wood samples at the store before you buy. I did and the color was represented well. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Product Ever With an 8 foot back fence and a 4 foot front fence - Behr has with stood the test of time for over 25 years. The fence itself still looks amazing it is just the interior boards that are attached to the fence that begins to show the wear. My experience the Behr has lasted about 13 years and then it is time to do it again, but it is easy to apply with a roller and looks beautiful when finished. I just started painting the front fence and all my neighbors love the color and how it looks. I will never use any other for outside or inside. Behr is for me. February 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by If using on older deck be sure to use a good wood primer first. While I do like the product, at this point (after four days of having it applied to my deck), I am questioning its durability. Proper prep is key, which is what I did (sand, deck clean, power wash) in the back of my head though I really thought that it was best to also prime the wood, but one of the features of this paint was that you did not need to prime. Therefore against my better judgement I did not prime. Well after applying, some of the rusty nails started to bleed through and some areas of the stain really did not stand up well against rubbing and normal deck usage (it started to peel). Also while the stain does look good after doing two to three coats, I would suggest that you start with a wood primer first. It will make your life a lot easier. (Do not believe the label (PRIME FIRST -before applying). In my case I did apply the primer over the problem areas and then reapplied the BHER stain, and like magic, no more problems. I wished that I had stayed with my gut instead of believing in the label (OH WELL - lesson learned). July 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding results staining our cedar house I have been staining our cedar sided house with this Behr product and I could not be happier with the results! Excellent one coat coverage and our house looks 20 years newer! February 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product 5 years ago we used the solid color stain on decks I thought I was going to need to replace. I was just hoping to get another few years out of the decks before dropping big $ replacing them. I live on the water in the Florida Keys. A harsh enviornment. I have Great Danes running on the Decks. Great Danes aren't easy on anything. 5 years later and The decks with southern exposure are just now looking like they need refreshing. The Northern exposure decks still look great. I'm on my way to Home Depot to pick up a few more gallons and refresh the southern exposure. I may never have to replace the decks. This stuff is great! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great coverage this stain offers great coverage. It's brought new life to our very faded deck September 24, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for staining an outbuilding The Behr solid color waterproofing wood stain we used on our wooden storage building looks good. The stain seemed a little thin as we applied it, and it took two (or sometimes three) coats to cover the previous finish. Time will tell if it holds up for five or more years... September 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BEHR Wood Stain Easy application. Great limited warranty. BEHR paint has a high rating. It is readily available at Home Depot. Beautiful quality finish. Non-fading, easy cleanability, superior lasting finish. Great depth and range of colors. September 20, 2015
