Does this paint work with a HVLP sprayer?

Asked by: Gadget
I've tried 3 nozzels 1.5, 2.0, 2.2 and none of them worked very well. It's too thick to get enough volume in a gravity fed cup. I've got various degrees of splattering which looked like orange peel even while going very slow. If you could somehow thin it like oil based paint I think you could but you aren't suppose to thin it. Answer is no IMO.

Is this paint sandable? What is the protocol? Thanks!

Asked by: Mc
Hi Mc! Great question. Although it's not necessary to sand between coats, it would be okay to do so if you are experienced with the technique. Nevertheless, the Alkyd paint is known for it's exceptional flow and leveling, so I think you'll be happy with the finish. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

Can I use this to paint over oil based pain? Or do I have to prime the wood first?

Asked by: Tye
Hmm. The Behr Paint rep said it was okay to put this on top of old oil after sanding and cleaning. He even came to the MANSION, cuz he knows the homeowner.

1-gal. #AE-22 Burlap Gold Semi-Gloss Enamel Alkyd Interior/Exterior Paint is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 72.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from worst paint ever I have been using Behr paint for over 30 years now and love it. That is until I bought this alkyd paint. This paint was a nightmare.I messed with it for about 6 weeks painting a few pieces of wood. and the paint would not dry. After 4 weeks it was still tacky. I even used a fan for several days on it to help dry.My family called it the paint from ? . Bought a second can and had the same issue. The humidity level was also low. I wasted about 5 hours on a can of this paint including prepping and using Behr oil based paint which turned out great. This paint should be pulled off the shelves. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Behr alkyd paint The finish is very much like oil-based paint, but much easier to work with and clean up, and there aren't the toxic fumes. I won't ever use oil-based paint again.

I bought the best brush and the ultra fine finish roller and am attempting to paint my doors at this time. Each time I coat it I get brush or roller marks. I sanded them out smooth and re-coat with the same results. I also tried rubbing them out with Pumice and Rottenstone. Neither of these worked. In the past I have made many cabinets and have always got a high grade finish. with these techniques. YOU just can't beat good oil based paints for high quality finishes.

This paint created a finish on my old wood/veneer combo cabinet that looked like it had come from the factory. The first coat seemed streaky, but after the second coat, I was completely satisfied! The paint is smooth and easily adheres to a clean surface. The color is excellent--true to the picture and modern. I would definitely recommend not judging this paint by the first coat. The second coat completely changed the look of it, and I ended up only needing those two coats to get the finish I hoped to get.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Paint We used this to paint our kitchen cabinets and love the way the paint applied and looked after drying. The Behr representative recommended this product and we couldn't be more pleased. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from i want to love this paint I really want to love this paint it does go on well but it has been 3 weeks and still not dry, i really think it has to do with how humid it is in your house. I called behr and they said to wipe down with a mild detergent and that helped some but still tacky. Hope it dries i dont want to redo cabinets i spent days sanding down to bare wood and applying 2 coats of oil base primer.

I have used high gloss white oil based paint on trim and doors for 30 years. I love the way oil based paint dries slow (smooth) and has a high gloss when new. Fast forward about 2 years and the paint is semi gloss and is quite yellow where it doesnt get light. Since oil base yellows and dulls within a few years I decided to try this stuff. You do have to be smart using it. You have much more working time then latex which is good so it settles much smoother but not like oil. I found you have about 5 minutes at room temp to work it. Laying doors flat and painting with a foam roller really lets it settle smooth. Properly applied a little thicker than latex but not enough to drip with give excellent results AND it won't yellow. I'm really liking this paint after a little practice. Give it 4 stars because it doesn't come in high gloss. Neither do other manufactures either. Technology need to be improved across all manufactures.

As other reviews have said - decent paint but is not a substitute for a quality Oil based Enamel. Never really dries and it is not hard to the touch, feels soft and tacky even weeks later. No problems with coverage or application just hard to sand and stays "rubbery". Every easily marked with scratch or finger nail. Don't Uses on cabinets.
