I am looking for the Behr Composite Deck stain that is suitable for refreshing Trex composite decking. Is this it?

Dear TrexDeck, BEHR Solid Color House & Fence Wood Stain is recommended for smooth or rough sawn exterior vertical wood surfaces. Do not use this product on horizontal surfaces subject to foot traffic. For composite decks we recommend using our BEHR Premium Solid Color Weatherproofing All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer or BEHR Solid Color Waterproofing Wood Stain. Please follow all label instructions. What type of primer should be used with this product?

Under description it says "features self-priming capability", in the specification it says "Primer Required : Yes" I am looking for a product to protect a new wood arbor that will be exposed to a lot of sunlight. Thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
Dear Woody, No primer is needed with the House & Fence Stain on most woods. However, Redwood, Cedar, Cypress and other “bleeding” woods contain water soluble extractives which may cause discoloration of white and pastel colors; therefore prime the above type woods with one coat of a product such as BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® NO. 436 Exterior Multi-Purpose Primer & Sealer. The following are the preparation and application instructions for this product. PREPARATION Use a product such as BEHR Premium™ NO. 64 Wood Stain & Finish Stripper to remove loose wood fibers, latex, oil-based and 100% acrylic coatings on new or weathered wood. BEHR Premium NO. 63 All-In-One Wood Cleaner MUST be used following NO. 64 to clean, brighten & neutralize wood. When NO. 64 is not needed, use a product such as NO. 63 to clean and brighten the wood surface and to remove light to medium exterior stains caused by mold, mildew, algae & fungus. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry before coating. On new wood, use a product such as NO. 63 to remove mill glaze and open the pores of the wood. Lightly sand to remove remaining wood fibers/fuzz. APPLICATION Must apply between 40-90˚F (4.5-32˚C). Do not use if rain is expected within 24 hours. The wood surface must be completely dry before application. No primer needed on most woods. See label for additional instructions. Intermix multiple containers to ensure color uniformity. Apply with a nylon/polyester brush. On rough-sawn or textured wood apply with a 3/4” (19 mm) long nap roller or high quality airless sprayer. For airless spraying use a .015 - .019" tip. Pump Sprayer not recommended. Always back-brush or back-roll during all application methods. Keep a wet edge to reduce lapping and help control color uniformity. Over application of stain will lead to surface failure including peeling and cracking. Avoid applying stain too heavily. Two coats may be necessary for complete hiding. Apply a thinner second coat after the first coat has thoroughly dried. Thank you for the inquiry!

What are the names of the color choices it comes in?

Asked by: Anonymous
So, I have to drive to the store to see color chart? Why does that seem so lame to me? What if you don't have a color that I want, then I have to go somewhere else? I live in the country and everything is 25-50+ miles away.

Do I need to seal after staining?

I used a Behr stain on my deck and all horizontal surfaces peeled or cracked within a month. The store manager basically said oh well (meaning I was out $150). Now it's time to stain. If I use a Behr stain again should the horizontal surfaces be sealed? Is that a separate product? I power washed the deck using a deck cleaner. Would sanding help? I wanted to try Behr Deck Over but the independent reviews were so dismal that I am afraid to invest in it. Any thoughts?

Dear perplexed, BEHR Solid Color House & Fence Wood Stain is formulated for exterior vertical wood surfaces. Do not use this stain on horizontal surfaces subject to foot traffic. For horizontal/vertical wood surfaces you can use our BEHR Premium Solid Color Weatherproofing All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer or BEHR Solid Color Waterproofing Wood Stain. If your coating is peeling, you need to remove the previous coating using a product such as BEHR Premium Wood Stain & Finish Stripper. Follow it with BEHR Premium All-In-One Wood Cleaner to clean, brighten and neutralize the wood prior to recoating. Please follow all label instructions. Another great option is our new BEHR Premium DECKOVER which will bring new life to your old wood surface. Please note that we stand behind all our products, the longevity of our DECKOVER Coating may be impacted by the condition and preparation of the surface being coated. We expect this product to endure like our top-rated solid color exterior stains. In general, the aged and weathered condition of the surface that DECKOVER Coating is intended for may impact the lifespan of the coating. Thank You

1-gal. Deep Base Solid Color House and Fence Wood Stain is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 51.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versitile wood stain I am an "old school" painter/handyman using only oil base stains and primers when I started painting with my grandfather in 1968. Well the years have significantly changed the paint products available to use (especially in California). But this stain on wood siding/other wood products I find it flows on,has good coverage/hide, has a " wet edge" or wet time to soak in, and levels out like an oil base product AND is reasonably priced! To top it off it is a oil/latex mix, so it cleans up with water(no paint thinner to clean up). [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best lower price stain out there ..... I have used Behr for the last ten years since the "Other" major brand is no longer carried by Home Depot. I find it to be an excellent product on railings and fences.... I did my fences in Dark brown ( the Pre-made type fence panels) , the deck railings in White, and the porch ( 15 year formula) in Cape Cod Gray. Easy prep work (Mop and rinse , let dry) and I have never had any peel or lift after ten years and multiple coats.... Great product , good coverage . I always brush it on (and in) , for good penetration. I have never tried to roll it or spray it, though my Father has done his 1958 Redwood siding home with a sprayer the last 2 times using this product . Rated 5 out of 5 by from Total Makeover We bought out house in the 80's when natural wood was the craze. After 30 years we finally decided to make the investment and make that dark drab wood bright and welcoming! The change lit up the neighborhood. I am so proud now of our home now. We also freshened up our landscaping. You don't have to move to a new home - you just need to paint it. Be brave. We did and it looks wonderful! Thank you Behr!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work like a pro I never stained a fence before until we moved to our new home. With my neighbor's recommendation, I bought this wood stain and was able to match the color my neighbor has. It's been over 6 months now, my fence still looks fabulous and looks like freshly stained. It works great, my brush and I work like a pro! I'll be painting inside my house this summer, I would diffidently use this brand again. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
