So, I have to drive to the store to see color chart? Why does that seem so lame to me? What if you don't have a color that I want, then I have to go somewhere else? I live in the country and everything is 25-50+ miles away.

Dear Jeff,
There is an Exterior Wood Stains and Finishes color card located at your local Home Depot store that shows the complete color listing for the BEHR House and Fence Solid Color Stain. This product can also be computerized color matched to the color of your choosing.

Do I need to seal after staining?

I used a Behr stain on my deck and all horizontal surfaces peeled or cracked within a month. The store manager basically said oh well (meaning I was out $150). Now it's time to stain. If I use a Behr stain again should the horizontal surfaces be sealed? Is that a separate product? I power washed the deck using a deck cleaner. Would sanding help? I wanted to try Behr Deck Over but the independent reviews were so dismal that I am afraid to invest in it. Any thoughts?

Please note that we stand behind all our products, the longevity of our DECKOVER Coating may be impacted by the condition and preparation of the surface being coated. We expect this product to endure like our top-rated solid color exterior stains. In general, the aged and weathered condition of the surface that DECKOVER Coating is intended for may impact the lifespan of the coating.

Dear Woody,
No primer is needed with the House & Fence Stain on most woods. However, Redwood, Cedar, Cypress and other “bleeding” woods contain water soluble extractives which may cause discoloration of white and pastel colors; therefore prime the above type woods with one coat of a product such as BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® NO. 436 Exterior Multi-Purpose Primer & Sealer. The following are the preparation and application instructions for this product.
PREPARATION
Use a product such as BEHR Premium™ NO. 64 Wood Stain & Finish Stripper to remove loose wood fibers, latex, oil-based and 100% acrylic coatings on new or weathered wood. BEHR Premium NO. 63 All-In-One Wood Cleaner MUST be used following NO. 64 to clean, brighten & neutralize wood. When NO. 64 is not needed, use a product such as NO. 63 to clean and brighten the wood surface and to remove light to medium exterior stains caused by mold, mildew, algae & fungus. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry before coating. On new wood, use a product such as NO. 63 to remove mill glaze and open the pores of the wood. Lightly sand to remove remaining wood fibers/fuzz.
APPLICATION Must apply between 40-90˚F (4.5-32˚C). Do not use if rain is expected within 24 hours. The wood surface must be completely dry before application. No primer needed on most woods. See label for additional instructions. Intermix multiple containers to ensure color uniformity. Apply with a nylon/polyester brush. On rough-sawn or textured wood apply with a 3/4” (19 mm) long nap roller or high quality airless sprayer. For airless spraying use a .015 - .019" tip. Pump Sprayer not recommended. Always back-brush or back-roll during all application methods. Keep a wet edge to reduce lapping and help control color uniformity. Over application of stain will lead to surface failure including peeling and cracking. Avoid applying stain too heavily. Two coats may be necessary for complete hiding. Apply a thinner second coat after the first coat has thoroughly dried.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality paint This is a self-priming paint that delivers very good results. Spreads easily and dries quickly. Colors are true and striking, so far. Easy cleanup with tap water. August 31, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Work like a pro I never stained a fence before until we moved to our new home. With my neighbor's recommendation, I bought this wood stain and was able to match the color my neighbor has. It's been over 6 months now, my fence still looks fabulous and looks like freshly stained. It works great, my brush and I work like a pro! I'll be painting inside my house this summer, I would diffidently use this brand again. February 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Product If you are looking for a paint product with the worst quality and result, this is the ONE! February 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SO IMPRESSED! First used product 3 years ago on front fence and color still looks great. This year we applied product on back fence with cheapest household paint sprayer. Went on perfectly and easily. It never even clogged the sprayer. Would definitely recommend. February 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use, looks great We used this stain in solid Slate to stain our backyard fence. It was very easy to use, went on with just one coat and has made a beautiful and bold statement. I've never stained wood before and had no problems, anyone could use this. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great I used this stain on my cedar posts for my porch and it works great and quickly. Covers with one coat. February 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great coverage of old and new wood I have just finished painting a very old fence and newly built gate. Both look amazing! It covers so well, no streaks, no second coats. You still see that is wood, but the coverage is superb. SO much better than other stains, I used the dark brown, chocolate color (forgot the fancy name), and it is so different from other stains around. I have not seen that kind of color on a fence/gate and it matches our Tudor house finish perfectly. Also, the application is a breeze! Highly recommend it! July 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent! Excellent one coat coverage using spray painter on wood fence! Easy clean-up, very durable. Highly recommend! December 11, 2015
