Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Avoid This product did not stick, but rather, it had the consistency and weight of a can of water. I lost 3 hours to sanding and power washing this product off of my fence to once again prepare the surface for new paint. I had to visit Sherwin Williams for their version of this item, which worked fantastically well under identical conditions, although their product is normally way more expensive. Note that 10+ years ago, this fence was painted with Home Depot's previous version of the Behr fence stain, which is now discontinued. For this project, I also added & painted New pickets, which took the stain, but did not look anywhere near the intended color. Note that Home Depot associates were fantastically helpful & supportive, per usual, but they did not have a better product to sell me. November 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent coverage, spreadability, color I have used this previously (Weatherproofing Stain - acrylic base 5013) with great results. Recently I used it on previously oil-finished deck uprights that had faded away after 7 years. I pressure washed and let it dry a lengthy period, then wiped down before application. The product spread very easily, adhered quickly and well. We are in the PNW and the UV is only harsh a few months a year, but the water is incessant all other times, and mildew is always a problem. This works great in that challenging environment. This is cheaper in the long run than lower priced options. Win-win. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Deck Stain We Have Ever Used We have tried several different brands. Two summers ago, we stained all our decks with another brand. The stain did not stick to any of the horizontal surfaces. Consequently, they all had to be redone. A great deal of time and money wasted. We re-stained with Behr and the stain held up even through our harsh Michigan winter. I would not purchase any other brand from now on. My daughter bought a house last fall and purchased a different brand of paint for her interior and I was helping her paint. I was so frustrated I wanted to go to Home Depot and purchase Behr paint myself to replace what she had. It was runny and the coverage was terrible. It took more paint because it needed multiple coats and still the finish did not look good. You definitely get what you pay for. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent stain Covers in one application and matches exactly to the sample in the booklet. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] June 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product for Price Product goes on well with brush, roller, or sprayer. Provides good coverage. Just finished applying medium thickness, single coat, to 400 ft of fence. Used same product 11 years ago, after letting wood cure for one year after installation. Notice I said 11 years ago, not 15 years. Product does not peel much. It just wears away over time. Beware of tinting. One of 15 cans did not match. Since product dries so much darker, it was not noticeable during application. Next time plan on spending the extra 50% to try the 25 year product. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Product Ever With an 8 foot back fence and a 4 foot front fence - Behr has with stood the test of time for over 25 years. The fence itself still looks amazing it is just the interior boards that are attached to the fence that begins to show the wear. My experience the Behr has lasted about 13 years and then it is time to do it again, but it is easy to apply with a roller and looks beautiful when finished. I just started painting the front fence and all my neighbors love the color and how it looks. I will never use any other for outside or inside. Behr is for me. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Be careful with this product I stained my deck and after two weeks it is still sticky. I also have patches of oil pooling in spots and the stain hasn't dried. I scrubbed the entire deck with soapy water and it helped a little but not much. I went to the store and they were nice about it but Behr was not helpful and blamed me for staining it wrong. I've been painting for 20 years and what I did is correct. Long story short Behr will pay for stripper and new stain but not pay my cost to redo the deck. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!!!!!! Read reviews other than Consumer Reports. October 15, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by looks great for a VERY short while We sanded AND cleaned the deck thoroughly (as per Behr instructions), and were very careful to follow all their tips in applying the stain as well. It looked great at first-- several friends asked if we had built a new deck. HOWEVER, the first time someone walked on it with muddy shoes, there were permanent stains (long after we washed and scrubbed the spots). Bird droppings, leaves, and mud permanently stain the surface. A year later, we're seeing peeling, and talking about (but dreading) refinishing again. November 18, 2013
