Do I put this on the wood before I paint it or after I paint it.

Asked by: Anonymous
This is a stain, it says it's clear but in reality it's dark. If your going to paint, just use the paint.

According to other review answers, this is the same product formula I used the first year. I have to disagree with this. The present product is different although it is acceptable. I put a new coat on every year, not because I have to, but because I want to. I have a cedar custom fence. Peeling occurs on the S4S(smooth four sides) cedar but not on rough cedar. It appears the rough cedar seems to be able to absorb the stain better than the S4S cedar. I have received many kind words on the appearance of this fence. Suggest you not refer to this stain as "clear" when it clearly is not, pun intended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST STAIN EVER We have a beautiful chalet home in the woods of Northwest Montana. Our siding is cedar. We use this exclusively. We love the LOG HOME product! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Only thing that really covers my wood on my log cabin. Seems to soak in better than other stains.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Log home clear gloss I have been using this product since 1994 when I built my vacation rental log home in the Leavenworth area. The house sits in full sun and where the sun hits the house we need to coat the logs and rails every year or so. Where we have overhangs that protect the logs from the full sun we can go several years in between coatings. The product is easy to work with and easy to clean up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Understand that this is a BROWN STAIN not a Clear Waterproofing! Bought this product at the store, the can says TRANSPARENT, NATURAL. It is not transparent, it is a brown wood stain product! I thought I'd spend an afternoon brushing a 5 gal can of waterproofing on my just cleaned deck. Wrong. This is a wood stain product ... plan on spending several days doing this. Plan on doing several coats. Plan on using tape and a careful brushing for edging. This applies like a paint, it glues to the deck any remaining leaves or debris, it leaves brush marks, it dries unevenly and it leaves brown stain on anything you didn't intend to touch with the brush. Don't think this is like brushing on Thompson's WaterSeal ... this stuff requires far more careful application and many more hours and be sure you like the color because it is NOT transparent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellant water proofing product-does darken wood, though. Product does what it says it will - but is not "natural" in color. Turned my wood deep, rich shade - which I loved!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Clear Color It worked ok on floor boards for utility trailer. It is a medium brown, not clear, in the can. It turned my untreated oak boards an orange/brown. Recommended, as long as you are aware of the color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Behr Clear Gloss Log Cabin Finish - Great Product I have used this product for the last 7 years on my 4800 ft. log cabin and outbuildings. It holds up well and I pressure wash annually with Clorex. It has a tough urathane finish that resists mildew in the South where humidity plays havoc on log homes. I used to be able to buy it in 5 gallon quantities, however now only contractors can buy in 5 gallons quantaties. I have to special order at one gallon prices. Wish Home Depot would rethink that. It would also be nice if they would carry a small quantity in the store. I shop in Dahlonega, Gainesville and Blairsville and none of the stores carry it. Blairsville used to that's how I initially came upon it.
