Hello jason,
Thanks for your question. Yes, this stain of ours can be applied over either water- or oil-based primers, so this would be no problem at all. Please be sure to follow all label instructions. Best wishes for your shed project!

Hi Shaun!
Thanks for writing in! It's okay to use the Solid Color Wood Stain over a polyurethane that's in good condition. To prepare the surface, it's recommended to lightly sand the coating, and clean the project with something like the No. 63 All-in-One Cleaner. Since the Solid Stain is a film-forming product, the final color will be which over shade you pick. Hope this helps, and good luck on your Read More

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 73 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality paint This is a self-priming paint that delivers very good results. Spreads easily and dries quickly. Colors are true and striking, so far. Easy cleanup with tap water. August 31, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by awesome product for the money this product was awesome from start to finish. I used an airless sprayer to apply the stain/latex formula. With approximately 6500sqft of 6ft privacy fencing the job was completed in one day. Using the sprayer, the 1000sqft per 5 gallons is very accurate. I did not have to go back and get more stain. the cool thing about the stain/latex is when going from the wood to the metal hinges and gate handles the formula acts as a latex on the metal but acts as stain on the wood. It only took one application. highly recommend this product. cannot tell you how long it will last as I just applied it, but It looks great. May 31, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Product I bought this wood stain to cover my bare wood fence in my back yard. I cleaned the wood first with Behr All In One cleaner which did a great job in preparing the surface for this stain. No primer was necessary. I used 2 coats with a roller and the fence never looked better August 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BEST HOUSE COATING ON THE MARKET I PURCHASED OUR HOUSE IN 1984 I,VE PAINTED TWICE WITH BEHR PLUS 10 WOOD STAIN (SOLID) WHICH IS NOW BEHR HOUSE & FENCE SOLID STAIN. IT STILL LOOKS GREAT TODAY GOES ON EASY AND LOOKS LIKE A NEW PAINT JOB ALL THE TIME EVEN IN THE PHOENIX ARIZONA AREA. MY HOUSE IS T-111 SIDEING WITH DOUG FUR TRIM BOTH WERE PAINTED WITH TINTED BEHR SOLID STAIN. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE IN THE SOUTHWEST. I EVEN PAINTED MY STEEL SHED WITH IT, AND IT HOLDING UP VERY WELL. May 10, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by like the color Seems like a good product, but it's hard to know how long it will last, and how long it will stay looking this good. Only time will tell. June 26, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 28 Years Experience and This Is The Best I've been using this for 28 years on my cedar sided home and treated lumber decks - long before Home Depot started stocking it - and it is excellent. Deck treatments last about 3 years and siding about 6 before the color fades. Solid color stain lasts longer than semi-transparent. Have tried the more expensive latex-only products from Behr and they flake off more on the decks and do not have any better durability in the Ohio weather. Have always brushed on, never sprayed for better results. Cleans up with water when wet else brush cleaner if dried. August 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SC-113 Gettysburg Solid Color House Stain - 2 gallons. Bought this stain primarily due to its lower price - I wanted to re-stain my older yard shed, but not spend a lot of money. Wood surface was pretty rough from weathering, etc., so when I put on the primer I had to use a brush to get into all the 'nooks and crannies'. I wasn't sure how well the finish coat would cover, but I'm very satisfied with the "Gettysburg Blue" shade and coverage with only one finish coat applied. Brush application went fairly well with only some isolated locations needing a second 'touch-up' coat of this stain. Passing of time will be the final judge on how long the stain remains looking as good as it started out! August 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great deal I think it's great value, it goes on more like cream or off white rather than white color. July 12, 2016
