Customer Questions & Answers

can this be painted by spray gun

can this be painted by spray gun
Asked by: Anonymous
Pretty much all stains can be applied with a sprayer. For best results, one should "backbrush" as one sprays to ensure the finish gets in all the cracks and crevices and to get even results.

is this stain good for pressure treated wood on my decks

I just put down new deck boards on both decks and want to find a stain that is good when the deck is ready to be stained
Asked by: sissy77
Hello sissy77, We appreciate your interest in our wood stain. Yes, it is suitable for pressure treated wood. First, though, please wait the typically recommended 6-8 weeks for the injected chemicals to air out (or check with the wood manufacturer or vendor for the exact timeframe). Then, we recommend cleaning with a product like our No. 63 Wood Cleaner. Best wishes for your project!

What do I use for clean up if used with a paint sprayer? Water clean up or paint thinner clean up?

Asked by: Kitty
Hello Kitty, We appreciate your question! Actually, you could use soap and water to clean up. If that doesn't work, there's also the option to go with a paint/stain overspray remover. For that type of product, you might check with Home Depot. Well wishes for your project!

5 gal. Deck Plus Tint Base Semi-Transparent Waterproofing Wood Stain is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from All my cedar projects look GREAT!!! I build a lot of rough and smooth cedar projects; fences, lattice, pergolas, decks, furniture, outdoor cabinets, and more. As a professional, I demand a quality finish that my clients ooh and aah over. Behr Wood Stain does just that! Its easy to apply and clean up is quick. Best of all my clients call me back to do more. I've used Behr products for 15 years and never had a bad experience. Definitely I would recommend Behr. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for outdoor cedar fence I was recommended to use this top end product by a friend and have to say I am more than pleased with the results. I used it on my front yard over year ago and it looks like new. The fence gets full San Diego sun all day and has not faded or peeled. The only touch-up required is to spots my cats use to to dig their claws into the fence to jump over. A little touch-up and it blend it right in. I am now doing my back yard and the color match is perfect. This time I used a Graco spray gun for my first coat which saved a lot of time. I still needed to brush in some spots where the grain was tight. Second coat always goes on real fast and that is when the true color pops out at you. The cleanup with soap and water makes all the difference in the world for me. Real easy and fast. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Product I applied this wood stain to a deck that had been completed but unfinished and weathered for 5 years. It was a total transformation. It made my deck look brand new again. The product was easy to apply and rain beaded nicely on top of it. If you have not stained in a long time...or ever, don't be surprised if the stain in the can does not look like the color you chose. My brown stain looked grey in the can and at first application. We were afraid at first that the wrong color had been mixed but after a few minutes we could see the true color as the product dried. I have no complaints about the product and would recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Deck Stain I used this semi-transparent stain on my cabin deck in North Carolina which is at 5,000ft elevation. It gets pretty rough up there during the winter and this stain has performed great. It went on well with good coverage. Got the exact color I wanted. Highly recommend it. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Behr deck stain I had applied Behr Premium Semi-Transparent Stain 2 years ago and it began peeling. Since it is guaranteed 5 years, I called Behr and they set me up to receive a re-reimbursement check for the stain, stripper and wood cleaner. I had read some blogs by people who said trying to remove the old stain didn't work. I am here to say that if you follow the directions on the can for the stripper, and washer you can remove the stain. The secret is you have to work at it and when it says to apply stripper, wait 30-45 minutes and then have a stiff brush and water and need to work at it, that is what it means. After all it is a stain that goes into the wood and just doesn't flake off. I will tell you that I followed the instructions and re-applied the stain and it turned out beautiful. The customer service I received and the advice was right on target. Yes it took work, but Behr stood behind their product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a stain, it's a paint actually If you want to "paint" your fence and you metal posts, go for it. This is not a true stain, it's a paint because it contains an acrylic binder. It will forever ruin a nice cedar fence and will destroy the appearance of cedar. It is very difficult to apply, requires much more than the instructions say, and is extremely expensive compared to true fence stains. If you have a pine or spruce fence and you want it painted, use it. Do NOT use on cedar. I am a contractor and pay $55 per 5 gallon pail less for true, good stains. I would never use this at my house or a friend or family, junk, just like everything Behr makes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Been using it for years... easy to apply I have been using this product for many years. The deck needs to be redone every other year to maintain its appearance. The downside is that it has become so expensive all of a sudden. Wait until they have a rebate and/or sale before purchasing it. I've been using the cape cod gray color. It wears off instead of peeling off like the paint-like stain. I tend to put multiple coats on to get the look I want.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Followed the application directions exactly. Used this to stain my entire deck including flooring, vertical spindles, handrails and lattice. After 6 months, it began wearing off the flooring and handrails. Now, a year and a half later it is almost completely worn off of everything, including vertical surfaces. Now I need to waste more time and money to sand and re-stain my deck with a different product that will actually last. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
