Customer Questions & Answers

can masonry paint be used on drywall? I am painting the garage wall where the dryer vent is located. The moisture makes regular paint peel off.

Asked by: KC
The masonry paint can be used on drywall, but the drywall must be primed first.

Is this paint tint able

Also if we use a gray color will it cover red brick
Asked by: Bumpie
Hello Bumpie, We appreciate your question. It can be tinted in up to 300 custom colors and color matching is available with it too. It's self-priming, so it can cover darker colors without the use of a separate primer. Well wishes for your project!

Do plaster interior walls need to be primed?

I'm having an addition to the house that will have plaster (yeso) on the walls instead of sheetrock. I think of plaster as a type of masonry, but I'm not sure. Of course the plaster is smooth and sanded, but I'm wondering if this paint would be good on plaster and NOT need a primer coat, or would I be better off using another paint. Thank you
Asked by: Homeowner
Hello and thank you for your question. We suggest that you use an interior paint such as BEHR PREMIUM PLUS ULTRA® or BEHR MARQUEE® for your project rather than BEHR® Masonry, Stucco & Brick Paint. Hope this helps and best of luck!

We live in sunny Florida. This paint has sucked into the bricks or faded, I'm not sure which. Now my house needs to be painted again because you can see the pink brick coming through especially near the bottom of the house where it gets wet from rain or irrigation system. So much for a 20 year warranty! We bought 4- five gallon buckets + 2 gallons of this paint to get two(2) good coats of coverage. Consumer Reports gave great reviews for Behr exterior paint. We have always been happy with Behr interior but not this paint! Also, the sample paint you get at Home Depot does not match this paint. The girl at the paint counter told me because it was a different base. Frustrating!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compliments from Neighbors on Quality of Paint Job It is one thing when we stand back and marvel at a good DIY job on your house. It is something else altogether when neighbor after neighbor and others in your housing development offer up unsolicited, genuine comments. I remodeled and repainted the entire outside of my 1980s ranch style stucco finish FL home using all Behr paints. I used Behr semi-glass ultra pure white for the trim; it brought it back to life. I used Behr Exterior Satin Enamel Autumn Tan to cover fiberboard over the garage and window trim. For the stucco finish I applied Masonry, Stucco, and Brick paint medium base in Sandstone Beige to cover a soft pastel pink that covered the entire house. I even dared myself to get creative and painted an "accent" stucco wall with Autumn Tan in Stucco paint. The stucco finish only required one coat; I used a very rough surface roller cover which worked ideally getting into the nooks and crannies of stucco. The fiberboard surfaces took two coats since the boarding was brand new. Due to the remodeling and repainting I have had several neighbors who have said that the paint job stands out and in all I updated the house 20 years to the 2000's. Now, my next project: my ranch style clapboard style house in NC. I already bought the Behr paint for inside and outside. Road trip! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible coverage, too inconsistent between containers I bought one gallon of this paint over Memorial Day weekend to test the coverage. It covered about 150 sq.ft. on a fine finish stucco. It's half of the claim on the container (250-400 sq. ft), but at least I was prepared. I then bought four 5-gallon buckets to finish the job. The first two buckets rolled on as expected and covered some hairline cracks nicely. Sadly, everything went downhill with the third bucket. When stirring it, it was noticeably thinner than the other two buckets. I started to roll it on and it wasn't covering nearly as well. I checked the fourth bucket and unfortunately it was the same as the third (both of these had the same batch numbers). The coverage dropped down to ~80 sq.ft., PLUS I had to coat it twice just to match the texture of the first two buckets. So, their coverage went from a claim of 250 sq.ft. down to 150 sq.ft., then down to 80 sq.ft. and requiring two coats (so covering only 40 sq.ft.). I went back to Home Depot and told them what was going on. They replaced the two 5-gallon buckets for me, but it's still the same terrible coverage. These were new buckets that were still wrapped on the pallets in the overhead storage area. I'm not sure if this just happened to be a bad batch or if the quality went down that much on their most recent paint. Either way, I highly suggest avoiding this paint. I'm now stuck in the middle of the job and will need to buy more paint just to make up for the lack of coverage, plus I have to roll on twice as much. Not fun!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst paint ever This is the 3rd time I've painted the exterior of my stucco house white. The 1st with Benjamen Moore, the 2nd with Valspar both with no problems and one coat. This stuff simply does not go on evenly and is very visible in certain light, even with a 2nd and 3rd application. Some of it may be due to the Behr primer underneath but not the whole wall! I've been happy with Behr interior but this stuff sucks. I guess it's for flipper contractors that want to do a slap on job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Paint painted a 3000 sq ft stucco house and perimeter wall in 80-90 degree dry desert heat using graco sprayer and attachements. 3mos ago AWESOME results, great value i would do it again and recommend PS be careful with sprayers, this product was the correct match to the sprayertype(store staff were helpful)...the elastomeric paint is too thick for airless sprayers of this type

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Painting my brick I purchased some paint from a local home depot store a few months back in order to paint my brick storage building. This product was grea because it not only mathed the rest of my paint jobs but it was smooth and lasts through the weathering and heat. The paint is still looking great and is so easy to clean too. The texture and appliucation was so simple that its makes me look like a professional painter. thank you so much for providing such excellent paint products. I now know where i will be getting all future products from.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Out performed a Hurricane Last spring I bought 40 gallons of this paint and shipped it to St. Jean du Sud, Haiti to be used to paint their church. Last month Hurricane Matthew hit the village destroying or heavily damaging 90% of the structures. The church rood was ripped from the building, but the Behr stucco paint held to the walls without damage. While the rood is being replaced there is no need to repaint the building. Thanks, Behr. I am sure that we will be buying more Behr paint to ship to Haiti in the coming months. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Masonry and stucco paint on brown stone I live in the north east where some town houses are brownstone. The front of my house is all brown stone and was painted more than 20 years ago a few shades of what I'd call a greenish gray. I was able to match this paint to paint the stoop and touch up a few areas. The match is great. The paint covered very well. No problems there. The back of the house is mostly brick. The sills are brownstone. Since the sills have been painted before as well as badly stained and patched with cement I felt the best thing to do would be to just paint it the stones color. A sort of reddish brown. Goes nicely with the red brick. The problem... Even though the value is about the same as the color used on the front I can't get the masonry paint in this dark a color. Must have something to do with the red hue. Hey Behr... How about a deep base in masonry paint for us people who live in brownstones and want brownstone brown paint. Other than that I love Behr products and use them all the time.
