Customer Questions & Answers

Can Behr Marquee exterior be used on aluminium siding without a sealing primer?

Asked by: Danny
Hello Danny, Thanks for your question! Yes, it can be used on aluminum siding. For aluminum, it wouldn't need a separate primer but please be sure to clean the surface of any contaminants before applying the paint. Well wishes for your painting!

Exterior House Painting

My home is Hardy Board Siding with concrete block base. I have panted the blocks with DRYLOK Water proofer a few years ago, so my question is can I use this to cover both the siding & blocks?
Asked by: Lem
Hello Lem, Thanks for your interest in Behr paint. Our latex wall paints like Marquee aren't designed to be applied over waterproofers as the sealing properties of those can tend to keep our coatings from adhering. Therefore, it would be best to remove the waterproofer before applying our paint to the concrete and fiber cement which are both okayed for our paint. Well wishes for your project!

Can this paint be put on over water based semi transparent stain on handrsil & spindles on outdoor deck

Asked by: Holly
Hello Holly, Thanks for your question. Yes, since it the handrails and spindles would be vertical areas that don't get walked on, the Marquee Exterior Semi-Gloss would be fine. You might also consider our other paints like like Premium Plus Exterior and Ultra Exterior. Well wishes for your project!

would I need some type of sealant or primer if applying the paint to a plywood shed?
Asked by: SJC
Hi SJC, Thanks for writing in! The first coat of Exterior Marquee can be used as the priming coat. However, if the surface is bare plywood, it may be best to use a separate primer (e.g. No. 436 Primer & Sealer) first. This will prevent the paint from soaking into the wood and allow you to get full coverage with less coats. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

I thought by spending $46 for a gallon of exterior paint, I would get a good product. Problems- 1. The viscosity is so low that it's impossible to prevent sags and drips from an vertical surface. 2. The hiding power is atrociously low. Looks like I will have to put 2 coats on. Apparently Behr decided to have a very low level of titanium dioxide in this product which gives any paint it opaqueness or hiding power. Don't buy this product. Go to Sherwin Williams!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like it! I bought this paint based on the description. I had a custom mixed to a color of my choice. I applied to a preprimed metal exterior door. It went very smooth. I was suprise with how well it flowed out. I very glad with it not sticking to the door weather strip two hours after I painted it. This door faces the sun so it gets a lot of heat throughout the day. Unlike some latex paint it has not soften from the heat and pealed or stick to the weather trim.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Paint Ever! Painted my new home exterior, formerly, as the neighbors said, electric turquoise, a light sage green. Really was one coat coverage, thick & didn't drip, well worth the price, used half the paint, half the time, I would normally have needed. . [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from There are better choices I converted from Sherman Williams paint products to Home Depot Behr products about five years ago. I always use Behr Ultra paint and primer and have had great success However, this is my second attempt with their Marquee paint. My original project was a very big upper deck I painted Behr one part epoxy barnyard red. Unfortunately, family did not like that color they picked and wanted a cream color. So I started with the same Behr one part deck epoxy paint in cream. I never expected the first coat to cover. I was hoping the second coat would, however, it took three coats of that one coat epoxy deck paint to look nice and not bleed through So halfway through I decided that with one good base coat of that epoxy cream. But the more expensive Marquee paint, same color, would allow me to finish that large deck with just two coats versus three. Wrong!!! It still took two coats of that Marquee paint So, keep in mind most of those Home Depot paint sales people do not have actual product hands-on application I would never recommend any Marquee product. Behr ultra paint and prime works better and is cheaper

My thought was since it is exterior paint it should be stain and fade resistant and tough enough to withstand sliding things across it without damaging the shelf. The paint covers very well. I applied 2 coats waiting a total of 1 day between coats, this was done in a heated garage with temperature holding steady at 74 degrees. It's been 1 month and the paint is tacky, I mean it's very sticky like it never dries. Everything I set on the shelf sticks to the shelf, you can hear a crackling sound when you try to pick something off the shelf and it literally sticks to the shelf. I will never purchase this paint for any purpose. Not happy at all with this overly expensive never-dry paint.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from worst paint I ever used Where to begin? The paint is water thin, so it runs, drips and splatters everywhere. Mixed it twice, no difference. Horrible coverage. Painted white over medium blue. After four coats, it still did not cover. Dries way too fast. You have almost no time to spread it or work it. It dries almost immediately so if you don't get it on smooth in one or two passes, it will look awful. Bought higher priced paint thinking I would get a better product, but it was literally the worst paint I have ever used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome paint I've done a lot of research on this paint and thought I bought the perfect paint for my front door, boy was I wrong. I had a professional painter come and paint my door, this paint just didn't do it, I had to go and purchase a higher quality paint and spent even more money, the painter had to sand the door again and do the work all over again. From what I read it seemed to be an awesome paint it just didn't work for me. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
