Using Concrete & Garage Floor paint, what is the drying time before automobile traffic is safe ?

Asked by: 46aib

Does it need a primer or base coat?

Asked by: Jcbhome04
This is a one part latex based epoxy paint. Floor prep is really important as is cure time (5-7 days) So, the answer is really if it is a new surface, then just clean it and let it dry well before applying this product directly. If the surface has been previously painted then prep is important to product adhesion. Sometimes the best approach for previously painted surfaces is do your best to prep and then use a "gripper" paint that Home Depot sells before applying this one coat latex epoxy product

Is this product SKID resident?? If not what do you recommend to put over it for Skid resistance?

Asked by: Fritzy
I have not done mine yet, but I am going to also purchase a bag of ground glass to add to the paint before applying. I have used this method on fiberglass tubs and it does an outstanding job of providing slip resistance. It makes the surface like standing on sandpaper and if you mix it in the paint, you will get much more even distribution.

I followed all the directions including using a concrete sander and then a cleaner etcher and finally thoroughly cleaned to remove any dust, dirt, etc. I applied two coats waiting the appropriate time in between. The floor looked great, however even after waiting the recommended time before parking a car in the garage their are spots under all four tires of both vehicles where the paint in gone. Almost looks like the hot tire melted the paint. Now I have to figure out what to do with the floor. Do I have to completely sand again before applying a different product? Not to mention the inconvenience of not being able to park my cars in the garage for another couple of weeks. This product should be pulled off the market or relabeled for just concrete floors, not garage floors.

Then, started peeling and cracking. My garage floor looks worse than it did when it was just plain cracked grey concrete. I do not recommend this product. Now, I have a horrible looking floor and no way to fix it. We applied the flakes to add the extra design so now there is no way to fix the spots left by my husband's car and mine. We have 8 horrible tire marks where the paint has rubbed away in no time at all. And, we followed the directions and didn't park on it for 8 days after painting. No help. I read the reviews and saw all the unhappy customers but decided to try it anyway. Reviews don't lie.

Within a month it was peeling. I called Behr, They seemed nice and sent me 10 gallons of "their best 2 step floor expoy". Granite Grip. Etched the floor a couple times to make wure it was done correctly. Applied the Granite Grip and just over a week later I was blowing off saw dust with an air hose. The product ballooned off the floor. Between the first and second Behr product I WASTED at least 100 hours of labor. Being a disabled senior, those were precious hours. Behr could not care less. They asked for pictures of the floor. From the PICTURES I sent they said the floor was too smooth and that was it. They could not care less. I brought in my own expert. Well known internationally in the paint industry and sent Behr his impressions. I have never heard back from Behr. I guess they hope I just go away quietly. I never go away quietly. When I cut up my Home Depot credit card, I will return it to Home Depot with they way I was treated by THEIR PAINT COMPANY Behr paint

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Purchased three cans for a two car garage. Prepared the garage floor, painted the floor and waited 15 days before we parked the car. The minute we parked, the paint peeled off. 16 days after we painted the garage , we painted the walls and used the blue tape on the floor in order not to get white paint on grey floors. When we pulled the blue painters tape, so came the grey garage floor paint. Horrible! Went to HD to let them know, I was brushed off with "it happens"

It laid down really smooth. I coated my cold storage floor in my basement. 1 gallon goes a long way. The color looks really nice and applies easily with a roller. I read many reviews on the Behr Wet-look sealer as a topcoat and most reviews were that it turned their finish milky, so I ended up using Kilz wet-look sealer, and I was really pleased with the finish. It did not turn milky at all. The finish is nice and smooth. I cannot speak to the longevity of how it has hold up yet (not really concerned where it is in a basement rather than a garage). I feel that it is a great product. If I were doing it in a garage, I would probably use a more industrial 2 part epoxy though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Something's Changed I painted my garage floor with Behr's Concrete & Garage Floor Paint back in 2005. Over the years, it has started to show wear and look a but grungy so recoated with the same (but different) product. Followed the directions to the letter and after 7 days, pulled the cars back into the garage. Each tire left a big black image of the tread and it does not wash off. Even the bicycle tires leave black marks. Anything that's rubber leaves ugly marks. Then a hose leak leaves a puddle and when I go to wipe up the water, the paint is lifting up like it's softening from the water. This latter issue was more than 2 weeks after application. This isn't epoxy. It's nothing put latex paint. A real disappointment as the original product used held up very well. To add insult to injury, I highly recommended it to a friend based on my past experience. He is having similar problems.
