Customer Questions & Answers

Do you need to prep a brand new garage floor that has been power washed and never had a vehicle on it yet?

Asked by: Scrumpy
Hi Scrumpy, Thanks for your interest in our Behr Premium 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint. Yes brand new garage floors especially need prepping mainly because it is they are too smooth/dense and don't allow coatings to adhere properly. First please ensure the garage floor has cured at least 30 days after installation. Floor coatings require the ideal surface profile (texture) to adhere properly. Smooth and dense surfaces will not provide the "tooth" for coatings to adhere too. The ideal surface profile is a light/medium grit sandpaper feel, which can be achieved by using a product such as NO. 991 Behr Premium Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Etcher. Thoroughly clean then follow with a product such as NO. 880 Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer to improve the adhesion. Please refer to the product label for detailed instructions. Thank You

Preparation

Dear Behr, Please advise on recommended preparation for a concrete carport surface which has been previously painted with a water base, silicone fortified stain? Thank you.
Asked by: deekah6
Hi Deekah6, Thank you for your interest in our Behr Premium 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint. Test the surface by dripping a small amount of water onto the surface. If water beads and continues to stay on top, it indicates that the surface is still sealed. If a sealer is present, use Behr Premium NO. 992 Paint Stripper. After removing the previous coating, test again for water droplets. If water continues to bead then further stripping may be needed. The ideal surface profile should feel like medium/light grit sandpaper and porous. Use Behr Premium NO. 991 Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Etcher to help achieve the ideal surface profile. Good luck with your project!

Can a clear coat be applied to this paint on a garage floor? If so, how long should the paint be allowed to dry before applying the clear coat?

Asked by: Tron13
Hello and thank you for your question.Yes. BEHR PREMIUM® 1-Part Epoxy Concrete & Garage Floor Paint can be sealed after 4 hours. We would suggest our BEHR PREMIUM No 985 Wet Look Sealer. Longer dry time may be required in cooler temperatures or higher humidity. Hope this helps and best of luck on your project!

1-Gal. #PFC-10 Deep Terra Cotta 1-Part Epoxy Concrete and Garage Floor Paint is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from not durable for normal use I followed the instructions and used this paint for my concrete carport, front porch and rear screened patio I applied 2 coats with 24 hours dry time in between and allowed it to dry for over a week before parking or placing patio furniture. There were tire marks in the carport within days of parking The patio is scratched up from moving light patio furniture Front porch is scratched from who knows what? maybe a package delivery? dog feet? your guess is as good as mine My brother has also used the same paint in his garage twice with the same results as above We are in south Florida so maybe it's not good for humid climates? Not sure why this is sold as durable garage because it is certainly not that I guess it's better than nothing but certainly not a good product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Happy Hired a painter (bonded) to finish my garage to include paining the ceiling, walls and floor. Everything looked perfect. We waited two weeks before putting anything in the garage. The first night we left our car there the paint peeled up with the tires of a Honda Civic. DISAPPOINTED.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money Followed the directions to the letter. Power washed the carport, etched it with Behr etcher, applied Behr primer. Put on 2 coats of paint.,waited 2 weeks before we drove on it. Now after 8 months it's all coming off where the car tires contact the surface.Looks terrible. Absolute junk...last time I would buy Behr products. All the work gone to waste

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT USE! Ever...! Run away from this product! The fact that there are five star reviews is a travesty. I purchased a house where it had been used recently, and within three weeks of closing it started to peel EVERYWHERE. Removal from concrete is expensive, imperfect, and awful. Just read the product's label! It says DO NOT use where exposed to "hydrostatic pressure." That means "the weight of water." But it's billed as "exterior" paint, perfect for pool side patios. Buy something better (which will most likely mean more expensive; this is an inappropriate price point for exterior walkway or patio paint). If you don't, it will be an expensive mistake.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Use Purchased this for our garage floor and our basement floor. Turned out OK on our basement floor. Our garage floor is horrible. We followed instructions exactly. We didn't put anything heavy in our garage for over a month - didn't even park our cars in it since we wanted to make sure it set and wouldn't peel up. Even two months after the application, we were still finding new spots where the paint came off. It especially is coming off under our tires. We don't even have huge, heavy cars! Now we're waiting through the winter but have to figure out how to fix it when the weather gets nicer. It'll be hard to fix just the spots since the speckling/painting will become uneven. I would not recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ignore the bad reviews I painted my basement floor 3 years ago and it looks like the day I finished painting, even in high traffic areas. Success with these coatings is 100% dependent on following instructions and prepping the floor correctly. I can guarantee that the guy who brought the house and had peeling paint had a previous owner who slapped a coat on to look good, but failed to clean, degrease, and etch properly. This is great paint. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Something wrong with this product I have used this paint several times with great success however something has changed. It now takes twice as much as before to cover an area and repeated coatings. The worst part is the pigments separate after product is applied to the floor so it looks streaked. I could not believe my eyes. At first I figured it was me so I stirred the paint thoroughly then put a small amount in the pan stirred it again and then almost immediately the pigments began to separate. This was product I used hours after purchase.
