The rich red color looks so great on my fence with my holly trees in front of it with their bright green leaves.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by RenovatedHaven Cover Bare Wood With This Behr
Built a small deck for our back door with pressure treated pine. I let the wood dry out for a few months and then it was time to stain. After some research I decided on this product. I prepped the wood with Behr All in One Cleaner, power washed, and light sanding to knock down any splinters from power washing. Here are some pros and cons from my experience:
*Product works well - water beads up on surface
*Very please with the color
*Clean up was easy - water base
*Penetrates the wood
*Can be difficult to apply - I am very meticulous and want my finish to be completely uniform. This product behaves like a paint in that if you are not careful your brush strokes will show but it also behaves like a stain in that it will leave lap marks if you paint over an area that has already been painted.
Despite these drawbacks I was still able to get a finish that I am very pleased with. A couple of pointers:
*Do not skip the prep work - make sure the wood is ready for stain (read the instructions)
*Paint with the grain (this is not a wipe on wipe off stain-you paint it on and leave it) and complete your strokes.
*Keep a wet edge and complete one whole board at a time. If you apply product to only part of the piece and then come back to finish it there will be lap marks - the part you did previously will be darker.
*Do more than one coat (I did two with one gallon)

I really love how this transparent finish allows you to see the original colors and variation in the wood. I did not want a solid deck stain and this worked great. Keeps the water off and has done a great job protecting our deck.

We just did our deck with this stain and it turned out great,,we love it..we had the deck installed last summer and was told to Not stain it for a full year to let it bleed out or something..we wanted the natural wood color left and this fit the bill...my husband used a paint sprayer instead of a brush and it took him an hour..he did a second coat also..there are pictures of it included with this review.

What a disaster! Three days of proper prep. Did everything to a T; I'm not a newbie. One rain four days later and it didn't even bead up. Went right down through the wood. The deck is not worth the time and effort to strip and re-do with another product. I'll live with it this year, and put in a new deck next year.
If you look at the pic I uploaded you can see around the perimeter where the eaves hung over and the deck stayed dry...looks nice til you get it wet.
I never write reviews, but this was so bad I felt I must.

Applied this product less than a year ago. Followed all the directions and even used the Behr wood deck cleaner, etc. Spots are "peeling" and fading and it doesn't look like it will last even a year.
Looked up the "warranty" and before they will do anything I have to give them the original receipt. Well you may keep all your receipts for years but I do not.
Very disappointed. Spent a lot of time and $$ for nothing. Should have chosen a cheap sealer. At least annual application would be cheaper. No idea what I'll do with this mess now.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MDiggity Good Stuff!! Stellar on verticals. Pretty good on horizontals.
I've used it on a fence & deck at my last house 9 years ago in Tennessee. That fence still looks awesome. I used it on my current fence 4 years ago in Indiana. That fence still looks awesome.
You might have to touch up the horizontal planks on a deck after a few years. My current deck in Indiana has fared better than my previous deck in Tennessee. Current deck is four years deep and may need a touch-up next summer on the horizontal planks. The previous deck in Tennessee needed a touch-up after two years, but held up well for 3 years after that.
In both cases I applied the product with rollers and brushes. It's too expensive for over-spray waste.

The last product I used was a Cabot Brand and that left the Deck Slippery-very not good and this year the wood looked like it was drying and cracking. Used this Product, very easy to apply, looks Great! and its not slick, it was a bit Tacky for quite awhile but thats safer than slick.
I look fwd to this Product actually protecting my investment in wood deck.
